Recently I have been made aware of FreeBSD by a gentleman currently in discussion with our new R&D project. It sounds like a great, reliable operating system. I am wandering whether FreeBSD - small could be used as an embedded operating system in a device that will need to communicate to a central server (via LAN or Modem), download MP3 files and then play them to an output. I look forward to your reply. Kind Regards, Nigel Anderson, NorthSupply 61 2 9787 9900 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-small" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-small Tue Jan 21 22:40:10 2003 Delivered-To: freebsd-small@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9D65237B401 for ; Tue, 21 Jan 2003 22:40:09 -0800 (PST) Received: from www.svzserv.kemerovo.su (www.svzserv.kemerovo.su [213.184.65.80]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AE4D743ED8 for ; Tue, 21 Jan 2003 22:40:07 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from eugen@kuzbass.ru) Received: from kuzbass.ru (kost [213.184.65.82]) by www.svzserv.kemerovo.su (8.12.6/8.12.6) with ESMTP id h0M6e0q5033724; Wed, 22 Jan 2003 13:40:04 +0700 (KRAT) (envelope-from eugen@kuzbass.ru) Message-ID: <3E2E3CAB.6A56E91E@kuzbass.ru> Date: Wed, 22 Jan 2003 13:39:39 +0700 From: Eugene Grosbein Organization: SVZServ X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.79 [en] (Win95; U) X-Accept-Language: ru,en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: nigel@northsupply.com.au Cc: freebsd-small@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: What about audio References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=koi8-r Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-small@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG > I am wandering whether FreeBSD - small could be used as an embedded > operating system in a device that will need to communicate to a central > server (via LAN or Modem), download MP3 files and then play them to an > output. > > I look forward to your reply. It certainly can do all of this but if only it has a support of your audio hardware. Take a look on the next URL: http://www.FreeBSD.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=pcm&apropos=0&sektion=4&manpath=FreeBSD+4.7-stable&format=html If your hardware is not listed there you may probably success with commercial OSS audio drivers.
