Intel PRO/1000 cards should work, but the SysKonnect driver has not been busdma-ified yet, so it is not likely to work on sparc64. I am trying to obtain one of the SK-9843 or SK-9844 (or even a 9821/9822) cards to port the driver. But sparc64 fails quite regularily when gziping man pages. The others are more random. Since about the same time I have dumping core make during make universe on my i386. The core shows differnt signals (4, 10, even SIGILL), but always in vfork(). harti -- harti brandt, http://www.fokus.fraunhofer.de/research/cc/cats/employees/hartmut.brandt/private brandt@fokus.fraunhofer.de, harti@freebsd.org From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jul 15 12:42:28 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9F71937B401; Tue, 15 Jul 2003 12:42:28 -0700 (PDT) Received: from ns1.xcllnt.net (209-128-86-226.BAYAREA.NET [209.128.86.226]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B7F9F43F93; Tue, 15 Jul 2003 12:42:27 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from marcel@xcllnt.net) Received: from dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net (dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net [192.168.4.201]) by ns1.xcllnt.net (8.12.9/8.12.9) with ESMTP id h6FJgHv1099227; Tue, 15 Jul 2003 12:42:17 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from marcel@piii.pn.xcllnt.net) Received: from dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net (8.12.9/8.12.9) with ESMTP id h6FJgHNd015904; Tue, 15 Jul 2003 12:42:17 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from marcel@dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net) Received: (from marcel@localhost) by dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net (8.12.9/8.12.9/Submit) id h6FJgHLm015903; Tue, 15 Jul 2003 12:42:17 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from marcel) Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2003 12:42:17 -0700 From: Marcel Moolenaar To: Harti Brandt Message-ID: <20030715194217.GA15880@dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net> References: <200307141153.h6EBrJKk045346@cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org> <20030715175821.K34004@beagle.fokus.fraunhofer.de> <20030715185438.GB15674@dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net> <20030715190456.GC15674@dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net> <20030715213252.S25192@beagle.fokus.fraunhofer.de> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20030715213252.S25192@beagle.fokus.fraunhofer.de> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.4i cc: current@freebsd.org cc: sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: [-CURRENT tinderbox] failure on sparc64/sparc64 X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2003 19:42:29 -0000 On Tue, Jul 15, 2003 at 09:35:43PM +0200, Harti Brandt wrote: > On Tue, 15 Jul 2003, Marcel Moolenaar wrote: > > MM>On Tue, Jul 15, 2003 at 09:00:17PM +0200, Dag-Erling Sm?rgrav wrote: > MM> > MM>> There's not much more I can say about it until I see the full > MM>> log from the next run; the last one broke at a different point. > MM> > MM>The first question is: what process is dumping core. Likely, but not guaranteed. I don't know if gzip has finish if the coredump happens. I don't even know if the tinderboxes are parallel. The point is that I can not explain the failure as being caused by cross-build bugs if it's gzip. Since I did a cross-build yesterday without problems, but also without rescue I can not entirely rule out that rescue still has a cross-build bug. -- Marcel Moolenaar USPA: A-39004 marcel@xcllnt.net From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jul 15 14:10:46 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2761137B401; Tue, 15 Jul 2003 14:10:46 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mail.broadpark.no (mail.broadpark.no [217.13.4.2]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B09DD43F3F; Tue, 15 Jul 2003 14:10:44 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from des@des.no) Received: from smtp.des.no (37.80-203-228.nextgentel.com [80.203.228.37]) by mail.broadpark.no (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7929B78940; Tue, 15 Jul 2003 23:10:43 +0200 (MEST) Received: by smtp.des.no (Pony Express, from userid 666) id 230A895E4D; Tue, 15 Jul 2003 23:10:43 +0200 (CEST) Received: from dwp.des.no (dwp.des.no [10.0.0.4]) by smtp.des.no (Pony Express) with ESMTP id 08173959A5; Tue, 15 Jul 2003 23:10:39 +0200 (CEST) Received: by dwp.des.no (Postfix, from userid 2602) id B3ABEB822; Tue, 15 Jul 2003 23:10:39 +0200 (CEST) To: Marcel Moolenaar References: <200307141153.h6EBrJKk045346@cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org> <20030715175821.K34004@beagle.fokus.fraunhofer.de> <20030715185438.GB15674@dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net> <20030715190456.GC15674@dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net> From: des@des.no (Dag-Erling =?iso-8859-1?q?Sm=F8rgrav?=) Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2003 23:10:39 +0200 In-Reply-To: <20030715190456.GC15674@dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net> (Marcel Moolenaar's message of "Tue, 15 Jul 2003 12:04:56 -0700") Message-ID: User-Agent: Gnus/5.090024 (Oort Gnus v0.24) Emacs/21.2 (berkeley-unix) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-3.0 required=8.0 tests=EMAIL_ATTRIBUTION,IN_REP_TO,QUOTED_EMAIL_TEXT,REFERENCES, REPLY_WITH_QUOTES,USER_AGENT_GNUS_UA version=2.55 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.55 (1.174.2.19-2003-05-19-exp) cc: current@freebsd.org cc: sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: [-CURRENT tinderbox] failure on sparc64/sparc64 X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2003 21:10:46 -0000 Marcel Moolenaar writes: > It does not only happen to sparc64. Will binaries compile > for Sparc Solaris 2.7, 2.8 run on FreeBSD-Sparc64? There is the svr4 emulation layer, but it doesn't work under sparc64 yet. This is complicated by the fact that svr4 is for 32bit binaries and currently sparc64 only runs 64bit binaries. I have done some work on making svr4. I have gotten it so that the elf32 binary from solaris is dispatched to the svr4 emulation layer, but it promptly fails due to no having completed the svr4 layer for signal delivery and the like. So, no, but it'd be great if someone got it working. -- John-Mark Gurney Voice: +1 415 225 5579 "All that I will do, has been done, All that I have, has not." Warning: build times > may increase significantly... I would guess that the problem doesn't occur in the vfork() call itself, but in the child process (gzip?), and there's a problem that causes the child to be incompletely divorced from the parent. Is there any trick to reproducing this problem? I just did a make universe on i386 and didn't see it, but maybe my sources are too old. It would be interesting to see if fork() fixes the problem. With the VM optimizations, vfork() is only about 20% faster than fork(), so build times shouldn't be significantly impacted. I am currently running Solaris 8 on this box. It has a sun keyboard, hme ethernet, two 4 GB HD, and a CDROM. Can I get 5.1 up on { IDE | SCSI } CDROM? How is X support under 5.1 on sparc-64? I have been looking for any install docs on sparc-64, but haven't found anything. It seems the Alpha port has better documentation in the Handbook. I've browsed the freebsd-sparc64 mailing list archives...found nothing specific to the Ultra10, except some questions about serial console access. Any pointers to FAQ's, install HOW-TO's, or some quick points to watch out for, etc=20 would be appreciated. I will be willing to participate in any documentation projects to help this port development. Some information about installing/booting can be found at http://ezine.daemonnews.org/200301/sparc64-nfsroot.html and here: http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=0+0+archive/2003/freebsd-sparc64/20030330.freebsd-sparc64 I hope this helps. The CVS sources do not yet support running syscons on the system console or using XFree86. Support will be added before 5.2-RELEASE.
