I don't know that there would be any other benefits; all this would get us is a web site that validates. Perhaps someone else more familiar with the tools available could offer a suggestion, but in my opinion XHTML, by it's very nature, is lacking most of the benefits of XML anyway. That's a fair point; since there's still work to be done before this can work properly anyway, I'll background it for now, but at some point I'd like to revisit this (ever since I noticed this it's been bugging me). It's maybe a bit pedantic but one of the strengths of this project has always been that we "do things right", therefore getting our website to be xhtml compliant is a worthy goal. Just as we try to keep our code up to the highest standards our web site should also match current web standards. It will have some benefits, if the pages pass validation tests then we can be sure that it renders correctly in all browsers that correctly implement the standards. -- Paul Richards FreeBSD Services Ltd From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Apr 6 10:40:06 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0850937B401 for ; I might note that all of the documents in our documentation set also claim to be XHTML. I wonder about them? If they're compliant, fixing *them* might be kind of hard since a lot of the XHTML is generated from the toolchain. Well this was originally done for the purpose of working with a wide variety of www browsers. Thats the only reason I cared to do it in the first place. If its not helping, or there is no real change, then we can just back it out and look at another solution. -- Tom Rhodes From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Apr 7 00:56:35 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7977037B405 for ; Mon, 7 Apr 2003 00:56:35 -0700 (PDT) Received: from gandalf.online.bg (gandalf.online.bg [217.75.128.9]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id C3CD443F75 for ; Mon, 7 Apr 2003 00:56:32 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from roam@ringlet.net) Received: (qmail 6197 invoked from network); 7 Apr 2003 07:51:24 -0000 Received: from office.sbnd.net (HELO straylight.ringlet.net) (217.75.140.130) by gandalf.online.bg with SMTP; 7 Apr 2003 07:51:24 -0000 Received: (qmail 18981 invoked by uid 1000); 7 Apr 2003 07:54:30 -0000 Date: Mon, 7 Apr 2003 10:54:29 +0300 From: Peter Pentchev To: "Bruce A. Would it be ok if we add FreeBSD to our company website's "product partners" web page with a link to www.freebsd.org and the FreeBSD logo? We're currently updating our website (www.eorigen.com and www.firstcreative.com) as our old one uses flash and it sucks grannies. The new one will be good ol' HTML. I've pasted in below an early draft of what we want to add to the page, if you want any changes (assuming it's ok for us to put the link on), let us know: [Product Partners] Product partners provide software which is either used by ADAM or compliments ADAM. > FreeBSD - http://freebsd.org FreeBSD is an advanced operating system for x86 compatible, DEC Alpha, IA-64, PC-98 and UltraSPARC architectures. It is derived from BSD UNIX, the version of UNIX developed at the University of California, Berkeley. FreeBSD is the server-side Operating System for our ADAM range of products. Argh! It's even worse than I thought: the current code is *broken* as it does not allow *not* grouping by severity. You have the choice between only listing PRs of a particular severity, or listing all PRs grouped by severity. You can select sorting criteria, but they only apply *within* each severity group. The links from the summary page are also broken - some of the generated links are invalid (but fortunately beignly so) while others are OK but drop the search criteria that generated the summary in the first place - for instance, if I search for PRs assigned to me, and then click on the link to have them grouped by category, it will drop the "responsible=des" constraint; there's no way for me to get that report other than manually editing the URL. Forgive me for saying this, but - I don't care how much you or your grandmother has done for the PR system in the past. I'm going to fix this. If you're not happy with it, ask the current bugmeister (keramida@) to give the previous bugmeister (YT) a very good reason for not fixing brokenness in the PR infrastructure.
