The programlisting element is a block element which should not be used inside other block elements. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. While it was a bastard working around the base perl and getting threads to work with perl on FreeBSD, I seemed to have successfully done it. Since I've found virtually NO documentation on doing this in FreeBSD, I wrote up some notes. If anyone is interested in looking them over for their own use, or thinks I should mark these up and add it to the handbook then please speak now. Failure to speak will result in me doing it next month anyway. :) -- Tom Rhodes From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Mon May 24 19:55:55 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E330A16A4CE; Mon, 24 May 2004 19:55:55 -0700 (PDT) Received: from internet.potentialtech.com (h-66-167-251-6.phlapafg.covad.net [66.167.251.6]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0E51743D46; Mon, 24 May 2004 19:55:55 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from wmoran@potentialtech.com) Received: from potentialtech.com (pa-plum1c-102.pit.adelphia.net [24.53.179.102]) by internet.potentialtech.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 94EBD69A71; Mon, 24 May 2004 22:55:39 -0400 (EDT) Message-ID: <40B2B5A8.4070803@potentialtech.com> Date: Mon, 24 May 2004 22:55:36 -0400 From: Bill Moran User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040506 X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Tom Rhodes References: <20040524210543.59ced8d2@localhost> In-Reply-To: <20040524210543.59ced8d2@localhost> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit cc: FreeBSD-doc@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: New doc? I just did this with Postfix, but I'd be curious as to what it takes to get sendmail to do it. -- Bill Moran Potential Technologies http://www.potentialtech.com From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Mon May 24 22:23:13 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A5A3516A4CE for ; Mon, 24 May 2004 22:23:13 -0700 (PDT) Received: from auk1.snu.ac.kr (auk1.snu.ac.kr [147.46.100.31]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3F2C943D31 for ; Mon, 24 May 2004 22:23:13 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from stopspam@users.sourceforge.net) Received: from [147.46.44.181] (stopspam@users.sourceforge.net) by auk1.snu.ac.kr (Terrace Internet Messaging Server) with ESMTP id 2004052514:04:27:613556.24301.2907192240 for ; Tue, 25 May 2004 14:04:27 +0900 (KST) Message-ID: <40B2D807.5020504@users.sourceforge.net> Date: Tue, 25 May 2004 14:22:15 +0900 From: Rob User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040507 X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-TERRACE-SPAMMARK: NO (SR:3.96) (by Terrace) Subject: USB link on webpage wrong? To be honest though, it was much easier to get working than I thought. Just the port mail/p5-Sendmail-Milter isn't really broke as the latest commit by sobomax (we know him!) pointed out. Once you get the base system to accept the multi-threaded perl built from ports, you're good. It was just a hassle of job fixing other shit. I'll tell you about that funny story over the phone sometime. :) -- Tom Rhodes From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Tue May 25 08:14:59 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8340616A4CF for ; Tue, 25 May 2004 08:14:59 -0700 (PDT) Received: from fresh.surpasshosting.com (fresh.surpasshosting.com [66.194.40.120]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 511F243D2F for ; Tue, 25 May 2004 08:14:59 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from pierced@fresh.surpasshosting.com) Received: from pierced by fresh.surpasshosting.com with local (Exim 4.34) id 1BSddE-0002Dc-C8 for doc@freebsd.org; Tue, 25 May 2004 11:14:20 -0400 To: doc@freebsd.org X-Autorespond: Re: Your document X-Loop: doc@freebsd.org From: "piercedvixen.com" Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Message-Id: Date: Tue, 25 May 2004 11:14:20 -0400 X-AntiAbuse: This header was added to track abuse, please include it with any abuse report X-AntiAbuse: Primary Hostname - fresh.surpasshosting.com X-AntiAbuse: Original Domain - freebsd.org X-AntiAbuse: Originator/Caller UID/GID - [32143 32143] / [47 12] X-AntiAbuse: Sender Address Domain - fresh.surpasshosting.com X-Source: X-Source-Args: X-Source-Dir: Subject: Thank you X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 25 May 2004 15:14:59 -0000 Thank you for your email. The thing is that I had to install webfonts and to tune a little bit the X config file to get decent fonts. I don't know if I made some mistake following the rules in the handbook but if not I think it would be good to add my experiences in the handbook(The X Window System - Using Fonts in XFree86 section). Let me know what you guys think, David. You should probably split the original text's largest sentence in the following two separate sentences: > + Andrew Corporation (USA). Numerous customers do justice to > + MAcomnet service high quality and level. Among them are large > + communications operators, Internet providers, telephone companies, > + banks, hotels, exhibition centers, embassies, well known trading > + companies, government organizations, institutions, industrial > + enterprises, scientific-research institutes, mass media. or something similar. Perhaps this could be a section of Chapter 9, "Configuring the FreeBSD Kernel." Here is a first sketch of what might be included: http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~reuben/freebsd/modules.txt If it would be useful, I could try to write it up in proper SGML. Also, section 9.3 ("The Configuration File") might mention the line "options EXT2FS" for compiling in ext2 support. If the user is new to Unix he also could understand this the wrong way. I would write 'kldload (man kldload)' instead of 'kldload (man page)'. I am afraid I don't have anything in the way of new info to add... I'd like to offer my skills as a proof-reader and editor. Here's a good place to start: http://www.freebsd.org/docproj/current.html These pages seem to be kept fairly up to date, and it's a good example of how much work still needs done. As FreeBSD continues to evolve and grow, this is an ongoing effort. Eric's suggestion about fixing grammer/typos is also valid ... but you don't have to stop at that! You could always combine two tasks into one: read the entire FreeBSD handbook, and submit PRs when you find typos/ spelling/grammatical errors or unclear sections that you're capable of fixing. Just another suggestion. You original mail looked like the following to me in mutt : [START] I came across docs/60252, which has been in there since Dec of last year. I read through the PR, checked the applicable section of the handbook, and determined that (as far as I can tell) this was simply a matter of a user not reading the docs, and getting frustrated when he mistakenly did things the long way. Anyway, this is off-topic of -doc, so any followup should probably just be off-list. --=20 Simon L. To install them just go to your port collection and type: # cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/webfonts -- This cannot be the installation path. Shouldn't it be /usr/ports/x11-fonts/webfonts -- # make install clean After that go to your XF86Config file and add this line to the "Files" section: FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/webfonts/" -- Yes, it is the final font path. Your effort helps real beginners to get things right the easy way. Congratulations on FreeBSD 4.10 released. After 4.10 released, I read the mailing-list of freebsd-stable, and I found http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-stable/2004-May/007575.html said 5.3 will be July 2004, maybe. But when I perused the document of "The Road Map for 5-STABLE" after, I found it still says 5.3-RELEASE will be Mar 2004 in section 4 Schedule. Now is May 2004, should this document be upgraded? Old users will know what time 5-branch will be STABLE, but for some newbies they won't. If they are tormenting to choose a branch of FreeBSD, I think this document will be useful for them. Please don't care about my silly suggestion. :) Jose Liang From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat May 29 08:31:27 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1ACB816A4CE for ; Sat, 29 May 2004 08:31:27 -0700 (PDT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0EEC743D41 for ; Sat, 29 May 2004 08:31:27 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i4TFU7QY064969 for ; Sat, 29 May 2004 08:30:07 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i4TFU7c2064968; Sat, 29 May 2004 08:30:07 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Sat, 29 May 2004 08:30:07 -0700 (PDT) Resent-Message-Id: <200405291530.i4TFU7c2064968@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, ian_leroux@fastmail.fm Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D116516A4CE for ; Sat, 29 May 2004 08:28:09 -0700 (PDT) Received: from schtroumpf.dyndns.org (modemcable203.83-37-24.mc.videotron.ca [24.37.83.203]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8B8FE43D3F for ; Sat, 29 May 2004 08:28:09 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from ian@schtroumpf.dyndns.org) Received: by schtroumpf.dyndns.org (Postfix, from userid 1002) id AD4224116; Sat, 29 May 2004 11:27:38 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <20040529152738.AD4224116@schtroumpf.dyndns.org> Date: Sat, 29 May 2004 11:27:38 -0400 (EDT) From: ian_leroux@fastmail.fm To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: 3.113 Subject: docs/67342: config, showconfig, rmconfig not documented in ports(7) X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: ian_leroux@fastmail.fm List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 29 May 2004 15:31:27 -0000 >Number: 67342 >Category: docs >Synopsis: config, showconfig, rmconfig not documented in ports(7) >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-doc >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: doc-bug >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Sat May 29 08:30:06 PDT 2004 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Ian D. On a good day, a MIME-based MUA which uses format=flowed will produce messages which look nice under plain-ASCII MUAs, but which wrap better when viewed in a GUI-- ie, with proportional fonts, variable window width rather than 80-columns, etc. The problem is that such MUAs display the message to you during composition using that flowing, and although they at least will respect the 80-column convention reasonably well, they conceal whether they spawl a word or two onto the next line (in a fashion made famous by Outlook). Plain ASCII MUAs do "WYSIWYG" better than Mail.app, Mozilla, and so forth... -- -Chuck From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat May 29 14:03:31 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D96B916A4D1 for ; Sat, 29 May 2004 14:03:31 -0700 (PDT) Received: from utilsc01.rightnowtech.com (utilsc01.rightnowtech.com [216.136.168.81]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BB0EE43D48 for ; Sat, 29 May 2004 14:03:31 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from collections@ipowerweb.com) Received: from rntca01 (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by utilsc01.rightnowtech.com (8.11.6/8.11.6) with SMTP id i4TL39D05598 for ; Sat, 29 May 2004 14:03:09 -0700 MIME-Version: 1.0 Message-Id: <40B8FA8D.000023.05256@websc-utils01.int.rightnowtech.com> Date: Sat, 29 May 2004 14:03:09 -0700 (PDT) To: doc@freebsd.org From: iPowerWeb Collections Department Content-Type: Text/Plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Subject: I love you!
