As far as I can understand what I need is a el_GR.UTF-8 definition in /usr/share/locale. I can use the existing el_GR.ISO8859-7 but the result I get when I call strftime with this locale is in ISO 8859 format, which is useless on a web page that is witten in UTF-8. Any ideas ? Thanks in advance, George Manessiotis From owner-freebsd-i18n@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Jun 18 01:48:53 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i18n@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CEB6316A4CE for ; Fri, 18 Jun 2004 01:48:53 +0000 (GMT) Received: from smtp01.syd.iprimus.net.au (smtp01.syd.iprimus.net.au [210.50.30.52]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A1C0143D5A for ; Fri, 18 Jun 2004 01:48:53 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from tim@robbins.dropbear.id.au) Received: from robbins.dropbear.id.au (210.50.248.88) by smtp01.syd.iprimus.net.au (7.0.024) id 40B7A0DA005DE575; Fri, 18 Jun 2004 11:41:56 +1000 Received: by robbins.dropbear.id.au (Postfix, from userid 1000) id BDF6941F5; Fri, 18 Jun 2004 11:44:36 +1000 (EST) Date: Fri, 18 Jun 2004 11:44:36 +1000 From: Tim Robbins To: Manessiotis George Message-ID: <20040618014436.GA57034@cat.robbins.dropbear.id.au> References: <40D1C3BE.5020506@hypernetcns.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <40D1C3BE.5020506@hypernetcns.net> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.1i cc: freebsd-i18n@freebsd.org Subject: Re: utf-8 support X-BeenThere: freebsd-i18n@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Internationalization Effort List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 18 Jun 2004 01:48:54 -0000 On Thu, Jun 17, 2004 at 07:15:58PM +0300, Manessiotis George wrote: > Good evening, > > Can I have support for utf-8 on a FreeBSD 4.9 OS ? > > As far as I can understand what I need is a el_GR.UTF-8 definition in > /usr/share/locale. > > I can use the existing el_GR.ISO8859-7 but the result I get when I call > strftime with this locale is in ISO 8859 format, which is useless on a > web page that is witten in UTF-8. > > Any ideas ? Install misc/utf8locale from the ports collection or from a binary package. These UTF-8 locales have been merged into the base system in -CURRENT. Tim
