Booting the 5.2.1 CD with the drive attached and powered on causes a panic in the device probe phase most of the time. I was able to do a sysinstall to the drive of 5.2.1 from the CD with the drive attached to USB0, never from USB1. >How-To-Repeat: Attach the USB drive to USB0 or USB1, power it on and boot. >Fix: If boot with the drive powered off, FreeBSD boots. Then, power the drive on. It acts normally. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Oct 11 04:40:24 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BBEC916A4CE for ; Mon, 11 Oct 2004 04:40:24 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9772A43D39 for ; Mon, 11 Oct 2004 04:40:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11) with ESMTP id i9B4eOfL012795 for ; Mon, 11 Oct 2004 04:40:24 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i9B4eO4l012794; Mon, 11 Oct 2004 04:40:24 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Mon, 11 Oct 2004 04:40:24 GMT Message-Id: <200410110440.i9B4eO4l012794@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org From: Ray Newman Subject: Re: i386/68140: Problem with Sony AIT ATAPI Tape dirve X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: Ray Newman List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 11 Oct 2004 04:40:24 -0000 The following reply was made to PR i386/68140; it has been noted by GNATS. It seems that FreeBSD 4.X is not recognizing the chipset and therefore it's unable to recognize Mylex AcceleRAID 160 controller. Everything is working fine on FreeBSD 5.X, but unfortunately the application we need to run on top of that is made specifically for FreeBSD 4.X. Is there any chance that Intel E7520 chipset will be supported on some future 4.X releases or is there some kind of patch/workaround ? This leaves you with your users' accounts in both /etc/master.passwd and /var/yp/master.passwd, and if you wish to add a user, you must add to both for the user to be valid on both the domain master and the nis domain. The solution is to set the system up as an NIS client per FreeBSD's documentation, by adding the following lines to /etc/rc.conf: nisdomainname="domain-name" rpcbind_enable="YES" nis_client_enable="YES" nis_client_flags="-S domain-name,server1,server2" Remove the users from /etc/master.passwd that exist in /var/yp/master.passwd, and add +::::::::: at the bottom of /etc/master.passwd. However, after rebooting with this configuration, the users in /var/yp/master.passwd do not register on the system. ypcat passwd clnttcp_create failed ypcat: no such map passwd.byname. reason: Can't communicate with portmapper Connectivity to rpcbind is allowed through /etc/hosts.allow, and there are no active firewall rules. >How-To-Repeat: Configure the system per FreeBSD's documentation as an NIS Server, then add to that configuration the steps required to run as a client of itself. >Fix: Unknown. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Oct 13 15:47:35 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9EE9916A4D1 for ; Wed, 13 Oct 2004 15:47:35 +0000 (GMT) Received: from smtp.des.no (flood.des.no [217.116.83.31]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ED48743D45 for ; Wed, 13 Oct 2004 15:47:34 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from des@des.no) Received: by smtp.des.no (Pony Express, from userid 666) id 7CAF95313; Wed, 13 Oct 2004 17:47:33 +0200 (CEST) Received: from dwp.des.no (des.no [80.203.228.37]) by smtp.des.no (Pony Express) with ESMTP id 6A79D530A; Wed, 13 Oct 2004 17:47:26 +0200 (CEST) Received: by dwp.des.no (Postfix, from userid 2602) id 2B9EAB861; Wed, 13 Oct 2004 17:47:26 +0200 (CEST) To: "Gordan Remus (Vox Mundi)" References: From: des@des.no (=?iso-8859-1?q?Dag-Erling_Sm=F8rgrav?=) Date: Wed, 13 Oct 2004 17:47:26 +0200 In-Reply-To: (Gordan Remus's message of "Tue, 12 Oct 2004 16:32:50 +0200") Message-ID: User-Agent: Gnus/5.1006 (Gnus v5.10.6) Emacs/21.3 (berkeley-unix) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.64 (2004-01-11) on flood.des.no X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.0 required=5.0 tests=AWL autolearn=no version=2.64 cc: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org Subject: Re: FreeBSD 4.X and Intel E7520 chipset problems X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 13 Oct 2004 15:47:35 -0000 "Gordan Remus (Vox Mundi)" writes: > Recently we have purchased a Supermicro X6DHR-IG2 motherboard based > on Intel E7520 chipset with 2x3.0GHz Xeons and are unable to install > FreeBSD 4.X on it. > It seems that FreeBSD 4.X is not recognizing the chipset and > therefore it's unable to recognize Mylex AcceleRAID 160 controller.
