As a matter of fact I did, all my notes are in one of those spiral binders, but I will work on putting the docs together. Most of it is confidence that it will work. When I first cut my teeth on BSDi I was used to things just working - when I moved to Linux, well things did not work the way I was used to and I learned to compensate. I had to undo that thinking and get used to things working again. Make sense? I am sure I will have a lot of questions as I re-learn, but it is truly a wonderful feeling! I'll let you know about the docs. -Scott From owner-freebsd-isp@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Mar 7 18:43:56 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6E35E16A4CE for ; Sun, 7 Mar 2004 18:43:56 -0800 (PST) Received: from destiny.chrononomicon.com (mail.chrononomicon.com [65.193.73.208]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0207B43D45 for ; Sun, 7 Mar 2004 18:43:56 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from bsilver@chrononomicon.com) Received: from [IPv6:::1] (destiny.chrononomicon.com [192.168.1.42]) by destiny.chrononomicon.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 85AAC1FDFF for ; Sun, 7 Mar 2004 21:43:51 -0500 (EST) Mime-Version: 1.0 (Apple Message framework v612) Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <74A5A8EA-70AA-11D8-93D4-000A956D2452@chrononomicon.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org From: Bart Silverstrim Date: Sun, 7 Mar 2004 21:44:01 -0500 X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.612) Subject: Perc3 utility X-BeenThere: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Internet Services Providers List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 08 Mar 2004 02:43:56 -0000 Is anyone out there running FreeBSD 4.9-RELEASE with the Dell aaccli utility? This seems to work great (gets rid of 90k odd interrupts a second). Is there any easy way of finding out how many packets are being 'dropped' in this system? (We use em Intel Pro 1000TX cards) - as obviously, there is a finite limit to the number of packets the system can push - is there any mechanism, or flag, or anything that will warn you if by the time the drivers get to poll the card, it's overflowed/lost packets? I basically just need to be able to rebuild degraded arrays remotely (from FreeBSD) as I don't always have console access to the machines and can't power-cycle them. I have various versions of the 3Ware cards (mainly 7006). After a while one of the drives will degrade. If I rebuild it, the same drive just degrades again soon after. I've replaced everything from the HD to RAID card, motherboard and cables - but in the end I have to format the array and rebuild the machine from scratch but then after a while it starts doing the same thing.. This is happening on FreeBSD versions 4.8->5.2 and across completely different hardware (though I've only ever used Maxtor IDE drives). Any help / suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Adrian. I'm looking for someplace that can offer me a dedicated server running FreeBSD. All I'd want is their choice of reasonable hardware, with at least 256 megs of memory and a 20g IDE hard drive. I'd want a basic FreeBSD 4.9-RELEASE install based on my partioning layout and full root access to the box. All I'd want from the hosting company is support of the hardware, and possibly occasional ping or http checks to see if the server was running. I'd take care of all system administration. One public IP is all I'd need. Traffic should be low, as this will be my personal web and mail server (no spam). I'm looking for something under $80/month USD, payable by VISA. The hosting provider must be an actual company with servers in a data center type environment. If I wanted to host a server on a cable modem, I could do that myself. Thanks. Hmmm, should kern.polling.suspect & kern.polling.lost_polls keep incrementing? Mine increment steadily. If you set kern.polling.enable=1 - they stay at zero - send a burst of traffic, and they keep incrementing steadily after that (about 20 or so a second). Even if there's no traffic at all... I don't seem to encounter any packet loss because of it...
