The NCSA HTTPd is no longer a supported product. The web pages are still available. FAQ page: HyperNews page: Another source of answers to your questions may be the newsgroup comp.infosystems.www.servers.unix or comp.infosystems.www.providers Alternatively, the Apache Server (originally based on the NCSA HTTPd, and still a free server) is still actively developed. We recommend you take a look at it as a possible replacement for the NCSA HTTPd. For information about licensing NCSA HTTPD, contact Jae Allen at jallen@ncsa.uiuc.edu. Im trying to use ipfilter to route outgoing packets trough two different interfaces and their respective gateways based on the packet's source IP. My problem is that when a packet comes from 10.1.0.0/16, it is correctly routed through the fxp2 interface and reach the destination... but the reply packets are lost in my firewall and never reach the sender IP from 10.1.0.0/16 network. packets coming from 10.0.0.0/16 work perfectly. You can see what Im trying to do at http://www.bsdnews.org/01/policy_routing.php - *Example 3 - Routing for Multiple Network* The difference is that Im using stateful rules. My guess is that the reply packets coming from the destination IP do not match the rules in the state table created by ipfilter a telnet to www.google.com 80 will generate this rule in the state table: 10.1.4.1 -> 216.239.39.99 ttl 3596 pass 0x5006 pr 6 state 4/3 pkts 4 bytes 188 32830 -> 80 fd654c28:18ea8803 5840<<0:8190<<0 pass out quick keep state IPv4 pkt_flags & 2(b2) = b, pkt_options & ffffffff = 0 pkt_security & ffff = 0, pkt_auth & ffff = 0 interfaces: in fxp0,fxp2 out fxp1,fxp0 Any idea on how to fix it ? ipnat and ipfilter configuration below: Thanks in advance. ----ipnat.rules: map fxp1 10.0.0.0/16 -> a.b.c.d/32 portmap tcp/udp 1025:65000 map fxp1 10.0.0.0/16 -> a.b.c.d/32 map fxp2 10.1.0.0/16 -> e.f.g.h/32 portmap tcp/udp 1025:65000 map fxp2 10.1.0.0/16 -> e.f.g.h/32 ----ipf.rules: pass out quick on fxp1 to fxp2:fxp2_gateway from 10.1.0.0/16 to any keep state block return-rst in log on fxp1 proto tcp all flags S head 100 pass in proto tcp from any to 10.0.5.1/32 port = 25 flags S keep state group 100 block out log on fxp1 all head 150 pass out proto tcp all flags S/SA keep state group 150 pass out proto udp all keep state group 150 pass out proto icmp all keep state group 150 block return-icmp-as-dest(port-unr) in log on fxp1 proto udp all head 155 block in proto udp from any to a.b.c.d/32 port = 137 group 155 block return-rst in log on fxp2 proto tcp all flags S head 200 pass in proto tcp from any to 10.1.5.1/32 port = 25 flags S keep state group 100 block out log on fxp2 all head 250 pass out proto tcp all flags S/SA keep state group 250 pass out proto udp all keep state group 250 pass out proto icmp all keep state group 250 block return-icmp-as-dest(port-unr) in log on fxp2 proto udp all head 255 block in proto udp from any to e.f.g.h/32 port = 137 group 255 pass in quick on fxp0 all pass out quick on fxp0 all pass in quick on lo0 all pass out quick on lo0 all -- -------------------------------- - João Assad - ParPerfeito Comunicação LTDA - http://www.parperfeito.com.br/ From owner-freebsd-isp@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Oct 19 19:34:23 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BEC1A16A4CE for ; Tue, 19 Oct 2004 19:34:23 +0000 (GMT) Received: from cenn.mc.mpls.visi.com (cenn.mc.mpls.visi.com [208.42.156.9]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 91D2D43D39 for ; Tue, 19 Oct 2004 19:34:23 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from krishopper@smtp-in.cybernetik.net) Received: from smtp-in.cybernetik.net (unknown [208.42.117.145]) by cenn.mc.mpls.visi.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 13D0D8A9E for ; Tue, 19 Oct 2004 14:34:23 -0500 (CDT) Received: by smtp-in.cybernetik.net (Postfix, from userid 1004) id 19A1F11669; Tue, 19 Oct 2004 14:22:52 -0500 (CDT) Date: Tue, 19 Oct 2004 14:22:52 -0500 From: Kristofer Pettijohn To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20041019192252.GB78974@cybernetik.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6i Subject: Disk I/O Performance with CCD X-BeenThere: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Internet Services Providers List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 19 Oct 2004 19:34:23 -0000 Im looking for some suggestions on I/O performance. I'm using FreeBSD 4.10-RELEASE on a Usenet transit server running Diablo for the transit software. I have 4 Seagate ST373435LC SCSI drives, 70GB each, and I am using CCD to bind them together with RAID-0 stripes. I can pull in anywhere from 30-40 MB sec and push out ~ 8-15 MB/sec.. averaging about 50 MB/sec throughput.. feeds coming in are coming in just fine, but sending stuff back out is lagging behind.. its falling about a half hour behind every hour. I've used tunefs to set the average file size to 20 MB and enabled soft-updates, as these are generally larger binary files that just get appended to, and then seeked later on to send the article out, I've played with setting the stripe size from anywhere between 8MB and 64MB, and did not see much change on performance between those. Maybe I'm just missing something small, but on these SCSI drives which have 160 MB/s transfer rates, I'm expecting a bit more than I'm getting with CCD. Can someone give me any pointers to look at or suggestions of things to try? Thanks! Internal Transfer Rate (min) 632 Mbits/sec Internal Transfer Rate (max) 891 Mbits/sec Formatted Int Transfer Rate (min) 56 MBytes/sec Formatted Int Transfer Rate (max) 86 MBytes/sec So lets assume: Internal Transfer Rate (min) 417 Mbits/sec Internal Transfer Rate (max) 588 Mbits/sec Formatted Int Transfer Rate (min) 36 MBytes/sec Formatted Int Transfer Rate (max) 58 MBytes/sec This means in THEORY, you agregate transfer rate should range between 134MB - 216MB.... HOWEVER: You are reading and writing - i.e. thrashing the heads back and forth well beyond the internal drive caches' ability to absorb... You are using software raid, which probably waits on full writes and reads to each drive, which without spindle sync may have more delay related to the max latency to find a sector (related to on average about the time of 1 half of one revolution...) 160MB/s is the bus speed... with command overhead, latency, contention, etc. etc. your real throughput would be even less... not sure what else I'm missing, but I think you are setting the bar too high ;-) A hardware controller with large cache or perhaps capable of striping across channels might help increase total throughput... Just a thought. m/ > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-freebsd-isp@freebsd.org > [mailto:owner-freebsd-isp@freebsd.org]On Behalf Of Kristofer Pettijohn > Sent: Tuesday, October 19, 2004 12:23 PM > To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org > Subject: Disk I/O Performance with CCD > > > > Im looking for some suggestions on I/O performance. > > I'm using FreeBSD 4.10-RELEASE on a Usenet transit server running > Diablo for the transit software. > > I have 4 Seagate ST373435LC SCSI drives, 70GB each, and I am using > CCD to bind them together with RAID-0 stripes. > > I can pull in anywhere from 30-40 MB sec and push out ~ 8-15 MB/sec.. > averaging about 50 MB/sec throughput.. feeds coming in are coming > in just fine, but sending stuff back out is lagging behind.. its > falling about a half hour behind every hour. > > I've used tunefs to set the average file size to 20 MB and enabled > soft-updates, as these are generally larger binary files that just > get appended to, and then seeked later on to send the article out, > I've played with setting the stripe size from anywhere between 8MB > and 64MB, and did not see much change on performance between those. > > Maybe I'm just missing something small, but on these SCSI drives > which have 160 MB/s transfer rates, I'm expecting a bit more than > I'm getting with CCD. > > Can someone give me any pointers to look at or suggestions of things > to try? > > Thanks! > > Kristofer > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-isp@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-isp > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-isp-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" > From owner-freebsd-isp@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Oct 19 21:23:37 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 66CC616A4D6 for ; Tue, 19 Oct 2004 21:23:37 +0000 (GMT) Received: from wjv.com (fl-65-40-24-38.sta.sprint-hsd.net [65.40.24.38]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9101A43D2F for ; Tue, 19 Oct 2004 21:23:36 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from bv@bilver.wjv.com) Received: from bilver.wjv.com (localhost.wjv.com [127.0.0.1]) by wjv.com (8.12.11/8.13.1) with ESMTP id i9JLIQ7o055972; Tue, 19 Oct 2004 17:18:26 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from bv@bilver.wjv.com) Received: (from bv@localhost) by bilver.wjv.com (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i9JLIQFl055971; Tue, 19 Oct 2004 17:18:26 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from bv) Date: Tue, 19 Oct 2004 17:18:26 -0400 From: Bill Vermillion To: Kristofer Pettijohn Message-ID: <20041019211826.GB55676@wjv.com> References: <20041019192252.GB78974@cybernetik.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20041019192252.GB78974@cybernetik.net> Organization: W.J.Vermillion / Orlando - Winter Park ReplyTo: bv@wjv.com User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6i X-Spam-Status: No, hits=0.0 required=5.0 tests=none autolearn=no version=2.64 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.64 (2004-01-11) on bilver.wjv.com cc: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Disk I/O Performance with CCD X-BeenThere: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: bv@wjv.com List-Id: Internet Services Providers List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 19 Oct 2004 21:23:37 -0000 Ashes to ashes, and DOS to DOS Kristofer Pettijohn was heard to say on or about Tue, Oct 19, 2004 at 14:22 : > Im looking for some suggestions on I/O performance. Why not run one of the benchmarks to see what your disk I/O looks like through the filesystem. I've been using the old Iozone 2.1 for about 10 years - it's simple and only tests throught through the filesystem. I save a copy of the output when I first install a system and then if things appear slow later I'll run it again to see if it did slow down or that I remembered the speeds differently. It's under /usr/ports/benchmarks/iozone21. How can i configure in my /etc/rc.conf to be able to make seamless switching from my ethernet to my wireless and vice-verse without any need to do manual configuration. Both build-in ethernet and wireless ethernet is sitting on the same network and same gateway. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Bigger helps for larger files, and smaller helps for random reads within files.. I've tried ranges of 64k stripes up to 64MB stripes.. all resulting in nothing better. I've been digging around the config and looking at some of the SSL-specific options. Also had a look at the mod_ssl website docs. There seem to be a number of OS-specific settings that leave me with more questions than answers. Does anyone know what is optimal with FreeBSD for the following: SSLMutex - port builds with type "file", but "sem" is also an option that seems better, if supported... SSLRandomSeed - port builds it with "builtin", but again wondering if /dev/random or /dev/urandom (and tweaks with rndcontrol) would be better. SSLSessionCache - port builds with "dbm" method, but "shm" looks like it might be faster. Also if anyone has other hints on speeding things up, they are much appreciated. Not quite ready for the hardware accel card yet though. :) Thanks, Charles -- Charles Sprickman spork@inch.com From owner-freebsd-isp@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Oct 23 08:53:59 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D0D3016A4CE for ; Sat, 23 Oct 2004 08:53:59 +0000 (GMT) Received: from dfw-smtpout4.email.verio.net (dfw-smtpout4.email.verio.net [129.250.36.44]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B2FBF43D39 for ; Sat, 23 Oct 2004 08:53:59 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from "") Received: from [129.250.36.16] (helo=dfw-mbox1.email.verio.net) by dfw-smtpout4.email.verio.net with esmtp id 1CLHex-0007FY-Ea for freebsd-isp@freebsd.org; Sat, 23 Oct 2004 08:53:59 +0000 Received: from mail by dfw-mbox1.email.verio.net with local id 1CLHeO-0006zv-AL for freebsd-isp@freebsd.org; Sat, 23 Oct 2004 08:53:24 +0000 From: joshuat@spacelab.net To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org In-Reply-To: Auto-Submitted: auto-replied Message-Id: Date: Sat, 23 Oct 2004 08:53:24 +0000 Subject: Re: Re: Developement X-BeenThere: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Internet Services Providers List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 23 Oct 2004 08:53:59 -0000 please make note of my new address!!! joshua.taylor6@verizon.net
