My quick hack is this, which returns a DNS error if hostf ends up NULL. A better fix would be to add a mutex around the DNS routines in Inet4AddressImpl.lookupAllHostAddr. Was the build of JDK done before the gcc compiler update (about 2004/07/28)? If so, then the JDK will need to be rebuilt (along with any other software installed before the gcc update).
