If you've already seen this message, please disregard.] Hi, If this is the wrong list, please point me in the right direction. I replaced my 11b wireless with an 11g (Atheros) card when I upgraded my home server this weekend. Among other things, I upgraded to 5.2-RELEASE and replaced the old Netgear MA311 with the WG311, in the hopes of having an 11g access point. Everything else works fine except for the hostap part. Previously, the MA311 worked rather well under 4.9. I have been unable to get my Win2K laptop using a WG511 card with the latest drivers to connect to the access point. Initially, with an older set of Win2K drivers, the laptop would be able to connect for a second or two at 11Mbps, and then it would drop the connection. This back and forth would continue indefinitely. Now, with the latest drivers, the card sees the access point but does not associate to it. I cvsuped my system to -current yesterday afternoon, to no avail. When I extract diagnostics using sysctl hw.ath.debug=1, after a short, varying interval, the machine locks up solid, although if quick enough, I can get some debug messages out. I've attempted connecting with and without WEP, with 11b mode, with set speeds, and so on, all with the same outcome. I've checked for interference sources and also popped the WG311 into a Win2K box, to which the WG511 associated in adhoc mode. Included are a relevant excerpt of dmesg, output from athstats and 80211stats and the ifconfig ath0 output. I should relate an observation that the OFDM PHY errors increase by about 4000 each half-second to a second. I didn't observe the others, though several increase with each athstats execution. Any assistance that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. Compiled a new kernel & lo -- APM suspend/resume is getting passed the ata0 reset consistently, without any extra kernel output ! That's the good news. The bad news is that following the first suspend/resume cycle, USB goes away ("kernel: uhub0: device problem, disabling port 1"). I continued to build a kernel with "option USB_DEBUG", and found the USB hardware to "come back" properly following suspend/resume, even though debug messages are turned off (sysctl hw.usb.debug=0). So, even the bad news has a happier outcome. I can post (or send) relevant dmesg(8) output, as requested. One other "nit": the AC97 mixer device in 4.9-R appeared to recognize separate bass & treble controls with the pcm(4) driver. With 5.2-R, I found this functionality "went away". Removal of the "fix" in src/sys/dev/sound/pcm/ac97.c that fixes tone on ac97 devices brought back the separate bass & treble controls, as reported by mixer(1). According to my ears, these tone control functions do seem to make a difference. Also, the nVidia XFree86 driver looks to work fine at 1600x1200x16bpp (fast, & no black band along the right of the LCD). When I get a little more time in the coming days, I'll revisit ACPI on this box. Regards, -- Gary E.
