Than i can't connect. But i think = the problem is not the the card, i think the problem is sitting in front of = the Monitor and is called Jerome! ;) Anyway, the card is working better under BSD than under WinXP, there the card is creating 100% cpu-Usage when activated. But that is of topic and = i hope 3Com will sometime find a solution, so i can throw away my old = LevelOne card! Regards @Dylan: Thanks for inform me about the other missing mailaddresses! I have only one issue, but I can't imagine that it is related to the = 3com card itself: Though I get the card to associate with the acces point with WEP = enabled, no data=20 seems to get through. With WEP dissabled all is well. I posted this as a question=20 some time back, but had no reponse. It may have something to do the open/shared=20 key stuff, in which case it may verywell be the acces point which is acting-up. I still=20 have to try another AP to narrow it down. This is a bit off-topic = though. About the XJACK thing, I think it is just the response of the system to = the=20 mechanical switch when the push-in the antena which has been questioned. = I=20 haven't tried that to see what happens recently. I'll try it to see what happens within=20 the next couple of days, when I get my hands on it. I can assure you therefor, the card works fine with the ath driver. It's just the switch in the antena which, at worst, doesn't get through. I could imagine at some point it may get tied in with the power control stuff in ath.=20 Maybe it is already? Or maybe the card is simply reported removed? I'll = try. grtz, Dylan On 1 Apr 2004 at 16:56, Josef El-Rayes wrote: > hi! >=20 > i found the "3Com 3CRPAG175" listed on the > ath(4) driver. i remembered someone telling > me that 3com cards with XJACK-antennas do not > work under freebsd so i am > looking for someone who is running this card > under freebsd, so i am sure i can order it. >=20 >=20 > greets, josef > --=20 > Josef El-Rayes (__) > Email: josef@daemon.li \\\'',)=20 > Web: http://daemon.li/ \/ \ ^ > FreeBSD: josef@FreeBSD.org .\._/_) >=20 _______________________________________________ freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-mobile To unsubscribe, send any mail to = "freebsd-mobile-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Apr 4 14:44:37 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4C4C216A4CE; Sun, 4 Apr 2004 14:44:37 -0700 (PDT) Received: from smtp.newipnet.com (5.Red-80-32-157.pooles.rima-tde.net [80.32.157.5]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A563E43D2F; Sun, 4 Apr 2004 14:44:33 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from freebsd@newipnet.com) Received: by smtp.newipnet.com (ESMTP Server, from userid 511) id 88CAE20519; Sun, 4 Apr 2004 23:44:26 +0200 (CEST) Received: from madre (madre.newipnet.com [192.168.128.4]) by smtp.newipnet.com (ESMTP Server) with ESMTP id 6E56520286; Sun, 4 Apr 2004 23:43:20 +0200 (CEST) Message-ID: <200404042342100749.00809B29@192.168.128.16> X-Mailer: Courier 3.50.00.09.1092 (http://www.rosecitysoftware.com) (P) Date: Sun, 04 Apr 2004 23:42:10 +0200 From: "Carlos Velasco" To: "M. Any help would be apreciated. Using 5.2-Current Problem related to pccard using NEWCARD (OLDCARD works ok), not reading CIS. Googling I have found some reference: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-mobile/2003-December/002611.html Activating debugs I find something really weird: 1. cbb1 allocating from beginning?? allocating from the beginning 2. size 0x6bffe000???? truncated region: [0x88002000, 0xf3ffffff]; size 0x6bffe000 (requested 0x400) If, _after boot_ , I change value hw.cbb.start_memory to 0xd0000000: hw.cbb.start_memory: 3489660928 PCMCIA works. I've recently installed FreeBSD 5.2.1 on an IBM ThinkPad T41p. I have disabled the touchpad in the BIOS, and the trackpoint works fine, all three buttons of it. My problem is that I cannot seem to use both the trackpoint and a USB mouse at the same time. For the trackpoint, I have to set "Device" to /dev/psm0 in the "mouse" section of my XF86Config file; if I use /dev/sysmouse, it will not recognize the trackpoint, which as far as I can tell, it should. However, /dev/sysmouse does pick up a USB mouse. The upshot is that I can't use both the trackpoint and an external mouse without changing the config file and restarting X. The moused(8) docs discuss running a separate moused process for the two devices, but I can't get this to work, and wouldn't know how to automate it if I could. Also, on another ThinkPad running 4.9, I have no problem using the trackpad and a USB mouse at the same time (in that case, "Device" is set to /dev/mouse, which is however a symlink to /dev/sysmouse). Any suggestions? Thank you. Right, I think the only solution is to fix moused to recognize the 3th button on the touchpad, the 3th button on the usb mouse works fine. The cbb only wants 4096 bytes so why must it be aligned on bigger blocks. What you do are that you disqualify the address rman chooses on your system, what is bad somehow. I had maybe the same problem when I first upgraded from 4.X to 5.X. Can you check if some other device also have got the same memory area assigned (later in dmesg)?=20 The problem for me are that when memory for the pccard gets allocated FreeB= SD takes the next available memory but dont check the list of reserved memory areas that it got from BIOS before, and actually it allocates the memory that BIOS has wired to my fxp0 device that is initiated after my cbb. So I have to set hw.cbb.start_memory in /boot/device.hints to a memory area= that I has beforehande confirmed that it is free (4096-aligned) -----Original Message----- From: "Carlos Velasco" To: "M. FreeBSD 5.2.1's installer sees my fxp0 device (supported EtherExpress Pro/100B PCI), but does not allow me to use it. I cannot get the boot CD to see the network. Does anyone know if a fix exists? Am I missing a boot time option? Someone (below) was able to fix fxp0 issues with an addition of hint.fxp.0.prefer_iomap="1" to device.hints. Is it possible to pass this option to the boot CD? Here I got Intel Pro/Wireless 2011 AP (802.11b) Today after reinstalling it to another room it fails booting. If I connect serial console cable to it I can see that it boots to system menu (even can select menu entries) and then reboots itself after 1-2 seconds (some kind of hardware watchdog may be) I did removed PCMCIA radio card from the AP and installed it into my laptop, it also fails with following diagnostics: ---- cut here ---------------------------------------------------------------- wi0: at port 0x100-0x147 irq 11 function 0 config 1 on pccard1 wi0: 802.11 address: 00:a0:f8:92:91:fa wi0: using RF:PRISM2 MAC:HFA3841 wi0: Symbol Firmware: Primary (2.1.2), Station (2.10.0) wi0: 11b rates: 1Mbps 2Mbps 5.5Mbps 11Mbps wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc00/0 wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc81/0 wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc0c/0 wi0: timeout in wi_seek to fc02/0 [snip] wi0: timeout in wi_cmd 0x000a; event status 0x8000 wi0: failed to allocate 1585 bytes on NIC wi0: tx buffer allocation failed (error 12) wi0: interface not running ---- cut here ---------------------------------------------------------------- Does that mean that card is somehow fried? I also tried inserting Lucent Orinoco card from my laptop to AP's pcmcia slot. With this card AP will boot OK and won't reboot itself as with original card. But I assume orinoco lacks stuff needed for AP operation (AP radio won't work with it) Any ideas?? p.s. Also tried resetting AP by shorting pins 2 and 3 of console port, AP will not restart itself while pins short (but won't work too), but when removing short and resetting AP everything repeats and I also can see that it did not actually reset nvram values, except for auth mode and channel set. (AP host name, IP, etc left untouched). Cheers, ALex. They'd all been up for ~1 year prior to death, and it seemed to be the power cycling that killed them. They all behaved like yours, rebooting continuously and refusing to talk to any network. In at least one case the pattern of LED flashes at power on indicated a RAM failure, IIRC - I think these are documented in the manual, or on Intel's website if not. Anyway, they were all very dead and very out of warranty :-( I tried one of the cards in a laptop at the time and couldn't get it to work either - this was a while ago though, so I assumed it was just not supported. Perhaps I should take another look at it. > Any ideas?? Sadly I think your AP is dead, time to upgrade to .11g maybe? I think it's because further resources (pccard0: ccr_res == 88002000-880023ff, base=ff80) need 64k alignment too for card to work. --- dev/pccbb/pccbb.c Sun Apr 4 22:37:54 2004 +++ dev/pccbb/pccbb.c Thu Apr 8 13:42:53 2004 @@ -1765,8 +1765,9 @@ start = cbb_start_mem; if (end < start) end = start; - flags = (flags & ~RF_ALIGNMENT_MASK) | - rman_make_alignment_flags(CBB_MEMALIGN); + if (RF_ALIGNMENT(flags) < CBB_MEMALIGN_BITS) + flags = (flags & ~RF_ALIGNMENT_MASK) | + rman_make_alignment_flags(CBB_MEMALIGN); break; case SYS_RES_IOPORT: if (start < cbb_start_16_io) Regards, Carlos Velasco From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Apr 8 20:36:20 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8417F16A4CE for ; Thu, 8 Apr 2004 20:36:20 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mail1.panix.com (mail1.panix.com [166.84.1.72]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EC72D43D58 for ; Thu, 8 Apr 2004 20:36:19 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from jester@panix.com) Received: from panix2.panix.com (panix2.panix.com [166.84.1.2]) by mail1.panix.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id D87A448FF6 for ; Thu, 8 Apr 2004 23:35:41 -0400 (EDT) Received: (from jester@localhost) by panix2.panix.com (8.11.6p2-a/8.8.8/PanixN1.1) id i393ZNc00381 for freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org; Thu, 8 Apr 2004 23:35:23 -0400 (EDT) Date: Thu, 8 Apr 2004 23:35:23 -0400 From: Jesse Sheidlower To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20040409033522.GA28796@panix.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i Subject: ath0 setup on Thinkpad T41p X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 09 Apr 2004 03:36:20 -0000 I have an IBM Thinkpad T41p with the following card, according to dmesg: ath0: mem 0xc0210000-0xc021ffff irq 11 at device 2.0 on pci2 ath0: mac 5.6 phy 4.1 5ghz radio 1.7 2ghz radio 2.3 ath0: 11a rates: 6Mbps 9Mbps 12Mbps 18Mbps 24Mbps 36Mbps 48Mbps 54Mbps ath0: 11g rates: 1Mbps 2Mbps 5.5Mbps 11Mbps 6Mbps 9Mbps 12Mbps 18Mbps 24Mbps 36Mbps 48Mbps 54Mbps ath0: 802.11 address: 00:05:4e:xx:xx:xx I have enabled "device ath" and "device ath_hal" in my kernel. There don't seem to be any errors as such, but I can't seem to get the card to work. I've removed all WEP from my WAP (802.11b only) to get started, and when I issue a command like # ifconfig ath0 inet 192.168.1.109 netmask 255.255.255.255 It configures things OK, but I get a "no carrier" message at the "status" line of ifconfig. Repeatedly running ifconfig will show that occasionally I will get a "status: associated", with info showing the SSID of my WAP, but this seems to last for only an instant before dropping back to "no carrier" (this is in the same room as my WAP, with a strong signal). Someone with a T40p has a web page suggesting that all you have to do is add "mode 11b" to the ifconfig command, but for me this returns "ifconfig: SIOCSIFMEDIA (mode): Device not configured". Oh, I'm running FreeBSD 5.2.1. Any thoughts? Could this be a hardware problem, or is there something I'm not doing right? Thanks very much. I am writing to ask some pieces of advice from you. I have Toshiba Satellite Pro 445CDX running FreeBSD5.2-Release. Everything is OK, except 3Com Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-TX PC CARD (model 3CCFE575CT-D) hooked up to PCMCIA slot. The system does not recognized neither with GENERIC nor OLDCARD kernel. Switching between PCIC Compatible and CardBus/16-Bit modes in BIOS does not help. I use PCIC Compatible, because CardBus/16-Bit mode does not let me use 56K Global Modem PC Card (model 3CCM156). dmesg tells me pcic0: Polling mode pccard0: on pcic0 pccard1: on pcic0 ... pccard: card inserted, slot 1 #(it's my modem) sio4 bla-bla-bla sio4 type 16550A pccardc dumpcis tells me about slot1 (modem) only. Additional info. Originally I installed FreeBSD 4.9 on the laptop but the system told me that 32-bit bus is unsupported when I tried to insert my 3Com Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-TX PC CARD (model 3CCFE575CT-D) . Perhaps I still have the same problem. But as far I know freebsd5.2 supports 32-bit bus, may be laptop's PCMCIA controller has 16 bit bus only. Any suggestions are appreciated in advance. PS. Allied Telesyn Fast Ethernet CardBus PC Card (AT-2800TX) does't work too. Anytime you can use 11g you should also be able to use 11b so the fact that you're not seeing 11b operation listed at boot is bad. It likely means you're trying to use 11g when you should instead be operating in 111b. I was working with someone else that had the identical symptoms but he's been unresponsive. I'll contact you offline to see if we can resolve this. Having hw.pci.allow_unsupported_io_range=3D"1" being set and ACPI loaded, FreeBSD 5.2-CURRENT runs mostly happily. However, I am having problems about suspension (S3) and hibernation (S4). After setting hw.acpi.sleep_button_state=3DS3 hw.acpi.lid_switch_state=3DS3 hw.acpi.standby_state=3DS3 hw.acpi.suspend_state=3DS4 Fn-F4 seems to be working, but the LCD backlight does not turn off (it just blanks out). After resuming from S3, USB and firewire do not work. I tried to kill usbd and unload usb.ko before going to S3, but kldunload keeps telling me kldunload: can't unload file: Device not configured and refuses to unload it. If I have X running when entering S3, X hangs even I switched to console before sleeping. I tried options SC_NO_SUSPEND_VTYSWITCH but in vain. What is of more concern is that I can't have my hibernation work. I have created a hibernation partition using phdisk, but nothing happens when I press Fn-F12 under FreeBSD. If I use=20 acpiconf -s 4 to force it hibernate, it does look as if it is entering hibernation. The Moon LED flashes and then the power turns off in a few seconds. But when I press the power button and choose to boot FreeBSD in BootEasy (Is it normal that the boot manager still runs when waking up from hibernation? Windows seems to work this way...), it looks perfectly as if it is a normal boot-up, which means that it complains about not- properly-unmounted / and begins to do background fsck, and not like a wake-up at all. Am I missing some important points to do? And for the hibernation thing, i don't believe that you can make it work, it seems that the newer thinkpads, don't have bios assisted S4 state, (hw.acpi.s4bios). That in my understanding means that the machine relies on the host operating system to do the hibernation.
