The problem is, according to it, it's not channel-hopping. I have it set to true in my config, and the velocity is set to 5, and when I start up the server it says... Enabling channel hopping. Disabling channel splitting. Source 0 (wtapg): Enabling monitor mode for radiotap_fbsd_b source interface ath0 channel 6... Source 0 (wtapg): Opening radiotap_fbsd_b source interface ath0... WARNING: pcap reports link type of EN10MB but we'll fake it on BSD. This may not work the way we want it to. WARNING: Some Free- and Net- BSD drivers do not report rfmon packets correctly. Kismet will probably not run correctly. For better support, you should upgrade to a version of *BSD with Radiotap. According to it, it's hopping. If you fire up the client and hit L, it says "server does not have channel hopping enabled". If you fire them both up at once by just running kismet, you can also hit H, and it'll say it's allowing the source to hop channels. Hitting L again gives you the earlier message that it's not able to hop. If you run the client and server seperately, the message you get from hitting H does not show up on the client interface, but it shows up in the output from the server. I have an access point right behind my laptop that should be broadcasting away like mad, but the card isn't picking it up. The best I got was the first time I fired it up, it picked up a garbage packet. The behavior is the same between the version in ports and the latest devel snapshot from the web site. Any ideas what I do now? I need to go to an area that has access points that I know are on channels aside from 6 and see if I can pick them up, then go back by again after telling it to hop explicitly and see if it picks them up the second time. If I can get it that far, I'll take it up with the Kismet mailing list, and I'll report here for completeness's sake. I bought the laptop with the knowledge of it's MODEM/LAN being physically damaged, so I got a Xircom Credit Card Ethernet Modem CEM 56-100 for free. The system is running and I have no problems. Lately I thought I may bring the onboard LAN/MODEM to life so that I don't need to carry the PCMCIA card and the dongle with me everywhere. The guy I purchaced it from, told me he has plugged the modem cable in to the AC wall outlet instead of telephone line! Don't ask me how this had happend, but both modem and lan are damaged this way. I checked with the IBM Maintenance Manual (page 147 No.5). The IO card could be replaced. (FRU No. 26P8023 or 08K3373). Now can anyone guess if after a damage like this, FRU replacement would be a good idea? or the damage could have gone further from the IO/CARD to the main board?(over the flat cable). Does anyone know a place where I could get such an odd FRU? thanks in advance, Shahab. -------- Shahab Sanjari (sanjariathrzdottu-darmstadtdotde) From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Mon May 31 06:40:41 2004 Return-Path: <owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG> Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A3CF216A4CE for <freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org>; Mon, 31 May 2004 06:40:41 -0700 (PDT) Received: from gidgate.gid.co.uk (gid.co.uk [194.32.164.225]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B4C4943D46 for <freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org>; Mon, 31 May 2004 06:40:40 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from rb@gid.co.uk) Received: (from rb@localhost) by gidgate.gid.co.uk (8.11.7/8.11.6) id i4VDboe26944; Mon, 31 May 2004 14:37:50 +0100 (BST) (envelope-from rb) Message-Id: <6.1.0.6.2.20040531143534.03a228d0@gid.co.uk> X-Sender: rbmail@gid.co.uk (Unverified) X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Version 6.1.0.6 Date: Mon, 31 May 2004 14:37:45 +0100 To: Shahab Sanjari <sanjari@hrz.tu-darmstadt.de>, freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org From: Bob Bishop <rb@gid.co.uk> In-Reply-To: <Pine.LNX.4.44.0405311208001.18410-100000@lnx104.hrz.tu-dar mstadt.de> References: <Pine.LNX.4.44.0405311208001.18410-100000@lnx104.hrz.tu-darmstadt.de> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Subject: Re: T22 IO-Card FRU replacement X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD <freebsd-mobile.freebsd.org> List-Unsubscribe: <http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-mobile>, <mailto:freebsd-mobile-request@freebsd.org?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: <http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-mobile> List-Post: <mailto:freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org> List-Help: <mailto:freebsd-mobile-request@freebsd.org?subject=help> List-Subscribe: <http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-mobile>, <mailto:freebsd-mobile-request@freebsd.org?subject=subscribe> X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 31 May 2004 13:40:41 -0000 Hi, At 11:12 31/05/2004, Shahab Sanjari wrote: >Hi everyone, > >I run FreeBSD on an IBM T22 as my main system. But Please Help! I found an old laptop, a TI TM7000--TravelMate 7000 to fool around with. Since I am just re-famaliarizing myself with Unix type OS, I thought that I would load FreeBSD or any compatible "Unix Flavor" onto it for the purpose of practicing commands, refeshing myself with the system, etc. However, I seem to have a problem. This laptop has no cdrom drive only a floppy. There is a 2gig HD, and 64megs of ram. I have search the interenet with no sucess to date. I am even thinking to use some type of embedded os, due to its compact size. But to get it onto floppies is the consideration. Could any of you suggest a small unix type os downloadable onto floppies which I might use. You probably want to back it off to V1.5 combined with the latest ACPI fixes. This is an area of major flux and is hopefully stabilizing. It won't. The modem is not the Lucent WinModem that is supported by this driver. Lucent has released Linux binaries for it, but I don't believe that anyone has built the shims to make it work on FreeBSD. I have had no issues whatsoever on my T41p. As for suspend/resume, it works for me when running either with APM (and ACPI disabled) or with neither APM nor ACPI. I regularly try it with ACPI though when I see updates being made to this area. This laptop has a radeon mobility 9000 video system in it and will run multiheaded using the laptop screen and an external monitor under Windows. I have had no luck getting this to work with FreeBSD 5.2.1 and XFree86 4.3.0 . I have tried everything I read on the radeon man page and Google and tried a couple different XF86Config files posted on the 'net that purported to work with this chip set. All I ever get is the external monitor unless I do FN-LCD/CRT, which switches me to the LCD and kills the external monitor. Doing FN-LCD/CRT again gets me both screens in 1024x768 and the if I hit it again, I go back to the external monitor at 1024x768 and the LCD is blank. The external monitor normally runs at 1280x1024 and does come up this way until I switch to the LCD, then it goes to 1024x768 and won't go back to 1280 until I restart X. I have tried one device section, two device sections, various options like "DPMS", etc, all to no avail. I have 'xinearama' turned on. Does anyone have this working? In any case, setup a 5.2 system, slapped in a Belkin F5D7000 802.11g wireless card. compiled a custom kernel and I guess i was assuming to see it pop up in dmesg like my other Intel card did. ifconfig -a shows up nothing. I believe the card shows up now that i modified the config with wi, wifi that it says uth or was it ugen0. Doing this from memory, will have to post more details later. In any case, is there something I am missing in the kernel, or the config file i need to include to allow it to properly detect the card. Once it is detected properly, how do I configure the card? params with ifconfig or is there another util just for wireless cards? _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar – get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/ From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jun 2 15:59:08 2004 Return-Path: <owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG> Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3D18616A4CE for <freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org>; Wed, 2 Jun 2004 15:59:08 -0700 (PDT) Received: from fed1rmmtao10.cox.net (fed1rmmtao10.cox.net [68.230.241.29]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C36D843D49 for <freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org>; Wed, 2 Jun 2004 15:59:07 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from jbl@tegatai.com) Received: from [192.168.1.108] (really [68.7.239.27]) by fed1rmmtao10.cox.net (InterMail vM.6.01.03.02 201-2131-111-104-20040324) with ESMTP id <20040602225905.JSHF14335.fed1rmmtao10.cox.net@[192.168.1.108]> for <freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org>; Wed, 2 Jun 2004 18:59:05 -0400 From: JBL <jbl@tegatai.com> To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Content-Type: text/plain Message-Id: <1086260350.41784.14.camel@reload.subterrain.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.4.6 Date: Thu, 03 Jun 2004 03:59:23 -0700 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Dell Latitude D600 fully supported X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD <freebsd-mobile.freebsd.org> List-Unsubscribe: <http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-mobile>, <mailto:freebsd-mobile-request@freebsd.org?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: <http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-mobile> List-Post: <mailto:freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org> List-Help: <mailto:freebsd-mobile-request@freebsd.org?subject=help> List-Subscribe: <http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-mobile>, <mailto:freebsd-mobile-request@freebsd.org?subject=subscribe> X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 02 Jun 2004 22:59:08 -0000 Fully supported! a bridging problem... after much effort, I managed to make the 3com 3CRDAG675 card work under FreeBSD 5.2 -current, thanks to Sam Leffler's patch. I'm trying to bridge the wired and the wireless networks together vía FreeBSD, so I do this procedure: 1) The wired card (realtek rl0) is configured vía sysinstall to have a static IP address (currently 192.168.0.99, netmask 255.255.255.0 ) and as a gateway and dns server, a windoze 98 machine with ICS (don't kick me, the stupid modem won't work with anything else) 2) The wireless 3com nic is started with the following commands: cd /boot/kernel kldload ath0 (I tried compiling it in the kernel but it would give errors) ifconfig ath0 ssid earth mode 11g mediaopt hostap up 3) The bridge is set up with these commands (bridge support is compiled into my kernel as option BRIDGE ): sysctl net.link.ether.bridge.enable=1 sysctl net.link.ether.bridge.config="ath0,rl0" sysctl net.inet.ip.forwarding=1 4) The wireless computer (currently windoze 2000, hopefully FreeBSD 5.3 will run on it and then I can get rid of Windoze) has been configured to have this static IP: 192.168.0.198 , netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway &DNS 192.168.0.100 The problem is, from the wireless computer I can always ping and see the other computers, but the other way around does not work (I can't even ping the wireless computer from the wired ones, including the bridging one), and I can only connect to the internet from the wireless computer (and see that wireless computer from the other ones) when I'm contacting in some way the gateway computer (for example hearing a sound file stored in the gateway computer). What could be the cause? Thank you very much in advance and sorry for the long message. What do I do to figure out how to fix this thing? I've tried several Linux distributions as well - they are Gentoo, Fedora and Jollix (A German Gentoo derivative). I was able to install Fedora successfully, and all the other Linuxes can boot from the cd. Jollix successfully starts X and brings up a KDE desktop. So it seems that getting Open Source to work on this machine is not so impossible - and I would really like to have FreeBSD on it if I could. If the problem lay in the ACPI (my first guess) how would I fix it? Is there something I could lift from one of the Linux distros to get my box to work? -- -- Jason Dusek ("`-''-/").___..--''"`-._ -- | `6_ 6 ) `-. Routing? Not enough to go on. netstat? tcpdumps? firewall? I've set up one bridge / firewall / monitor / logger etc between a proxy / NAT gateway and its ethernet, also providing an 'inside'web and samba server, but all traffic through the bridge (ie not to the box itself) is, well, bridged, not routed. If your laptop does not support this function, 255 is displayed. This gets a bit confusing. Here is the run down. ACPI and APM in the kernel (or loaded modules) don't play together at all. It's "either/or". FreeBSD DOES provide an APM emulation that does work with apmd, passing along requested to ACPI and reformatting the results to look like APM.. As a result, you may still want APMD_ENABLE="YES" in your rc.conf. Legacy tools using APM will still use apmd which talks to the APM emulation software which talks to ACPI. I hope this explains it. I'll admit that it's confusing. I am not familiar with klaptop, so I can't answer completely, but if it uses apmd, it requires that apmd be enabled on the system. -- R.
