That was working all fine and well, until just over two weeks ago, when I=20 updated to the latest -CURRENT cut... Ever since then, Cardbus refuses=20 to work at all. (My old PC Card wireless NIC still works fine) It just=20 repeatedly spurts out "cbb0: Cardbus activation failed" when=20 (re)inserting the Atheros based Cardbus NIC I had been using quite=20 successfuly before. Have there been any changes to the Cardbus support in the last couple of=20 weeks? One side effect is that FreeBSD now detects the onboard Broadcom=20 NIC again (It hadn't been detected since the MB on this laptop was=20 replaced by Dell tech support earlier this year) Because of this, I did=20 try to disable the onboard NIC to see if that fixed the Cardbus=20 detection, but to no avail. :) Best Wishes - Peter =2D-=20 [ http://www.plosh.net/ ] - "Earth Halted: Please reboot to continue" --Boundary-02=_CtS1AybpqbOg/mc Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Description: signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQBA1StCuffIhmkXw7kRAj9MAKDPWJ8vdwsOtWMmahQyJ1xTqMGhXACgtui4 ymzA0wTBhTMyI06KYnrCq7I= =v1mC -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Boundary-02=_CtS1AybpqbOg/mc-- From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Jun 19 20:11:46 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 84C4D16A4CE for ; Sat, 19 Jun 2004 20:11:46 +0000 (GMT) Received: from marvin.muc.de (marvin.muc.de [193.149.48.2]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id A5B5843D45 for ; Sat, 19 Jun 2004 20:11:45 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from 520063869017-0001@t-online.de) Received: (qmail 60461 invoked by alias); 19 Jun 2004 20:10:45 -0000 Delivered-To: mods-muc-lists-freebsd-mobile@moderators.muc.de Received: (qmail 60454 invoked from network); 19 Jun 2004 20:10:43 -0000 Received: from mailout04.sul.t-online.com (194.25.134.18) by marvin.muc.de with SMTP; 19 Jun 2004 20:10:43 -0000 Received: from imh00.t-online.com by mailout04.sul.t-online.com with esmtp id 1BbmAl-0001YD-00; Sat, 19 Jun 2004 22:10:43 +0200 Received: from news.t-online.com by imh00.t-online.com with esmtp id 1BbmAl-0001w2-00; Sat, 19 Jun 2004 22:10:43 +0200 Received: from news by news.t-online.com with local id 1BbmAl-0004Nt-00; Sat, 19 Jun 2004 22:10:43 +0200 To: muc-lists-freebsd-mobile@moderators.muc.de Path: news.t-online.com!not-for-mail From: Luigi Newsgroups: muc.lists.freebsd.mobile Date: Sat, 19 Jun 2004 22:18:36 +0000 Organization: T-Online Lines: 21 Message-ID: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Trace: news.t-online.com 1087675842 06 16830 yJNsX0zvSGtqahM 040619 20:10:42 X-Complaints-To: usenet-abuse@t-online.de X-ID: TbDS3UZT8eAzoxbvyUj4obj7pxQt3Gt9XjQvqGYGw9oysYATmhAMrX User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040412 X-Accept-Language: en-us, en, de-de, zh-hk, ru, de-ch, zh, eo X-Mailman-Approved-At: Sun, 20 Jun 2004 12:01:01 +0000 Subject: apm ... zzz ... black display ... ibm thinkpad r40e X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: aaa777@bonbon.net List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 19 Jun 2004 20:11:46 -0000 sup ng, I was using the command 'zzz' recently to suspend my 5.x freebsd on a r40e ibm notebook. well, suspending works fine and the moon-light-led enlights and the computer is suspend mode. when i press the power buttom to restart the computer, it restarts somehow (noise) but the display keeps still black (blank, offline...) what's the matter? where to config? -- Ludwig Schreier From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Jun 20 21:27:57 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6E73116A4CE for ; Sun, 20 Jun 2004 21:27:57 +0000 (GMT) Received: from web12826.mail.yahoo.com (web12826.mail.yahoo.com [216.136.174.207]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 405D843D53 for ; Sun, 20 Jun 2004 21:27:57 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from neshort@yahoo.com) Message-ID: <20040620212757.92792.qmail@web12826.mail.yahoo.com> Received: from [65.130.92.2] by web12826.mail.yahoo.com via HTTP; Sun, 20 Jun 2004 14:27:57 PDT Date: Sun, 20 Jun 2004 14:27:57 -0700 (PDT) From: Neil Short To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Subject: Re: HP Laptop problem X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 20 Jun 2004 21:27:57 -0000 Quoted text: Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2004 04:05:41 -0000 I try to install FreeBSD 5.2 on a HP pavilion zx5000 series, model = zx5020EA. The internal bluetooth on most notebooks is handled via an internal USB connection, you might se the bluetooth device by doing "usbdevs -v". The switch just connects and disconnects the USB device, so you might see a change before and after pressing the hotkey for Bluetooth. - Oliver -- | Oliver Brandmueller | Offenbacher Str. 1 | Germany D-14197 Berlin | | Fon +49-172-3130856 | Fax +49-172-3145027 | WWW: http://the.addict.de/ | | Ich bin das Internet. I have been using FreeBSD on this laptop for a long time, and the problem I'm going to describe also happened while it was running 4.6-STABLE. Sometimes, when wathing at my processes using top(1), all CPU states are 0.00. Since ps(1) shows the same behaviour, this is not a bug in top(1). But when this problem happens (this seems to be completly random), vmstat(8) shows a weird interrupt rate for rtc : # z6po:root# vmstat -i | sed -n '1p; /rtc/p;' # interrupt total rate # irq8: rtc 7584528 115 or, two hours later, while the computer was 100% idle : # z6po:tataz$ vmstat -i | sed -n '1p; /rtc/p;' # interrupt total rate # irq8: rtc 7584528 101 AFAIK, rtc interrupts rate should be something like 127 or 128. What > could make the rate being so unstable ? It's not unstable; it just stopped completely and the average is slowly falling. I had this happen to one of my servers a few weeks ago as well. You can determine exactly when it stopped by counting 7584528/128 ~= 59254 seconds forward from the time your system booted. Mine died after about a week of uptime, and I didn't see anything interesting in the logs. A reboot fixed it. -- Dan Nelson dnelson@allantgroup.com From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jun 22 17:40:25 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 109CD16A5CA for ; Tue, 22 Jun 2004 17:40:25 +0000 (GMT) Received: from luvewe.bonch.org (luvewe.bonch.org [216.150.214.165]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 783C043D46 for ; Tue, 22 Jun 2004 17:40:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from jake@luvewe.bonch.org) Received: (qmail 13976 invoked by uid 1004); 22 Jun 2004 17:40:03 -0000 Date: Tue, 22 Jun 2004 11:40:03 -0600 From: jake-freebsd To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20040622174003.GB18608@luvewe.bonch.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.4i Subject: install problems on Dell CPi with 3com 3c589d X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 22 Jun 2004 17:40:25 -0000 I apologize in advance for any information I may have left out of this e-mail. I'm trying to install FreeBSD 4.10-RELEASE on a Dell Latitude CPi, but encountering some issues. This particular laptop has no CDROM drive, only floppy, so I'm trying to do a net install with a 3Com 3c589d PCMCIA card (which appears to be supported hardware in 4.10-RELEASE). The only problem is this card is not recognized by the install. I have some experience using the BSDs (mostly OpenBSD), though mostly on Sun gear. PC stuff is still a gray area for me. I've tried disabling what I can in the BIOS to prevent IRQ conflicts, and in the kernal config screen, no conflicts seem to appear. I get an option as soon as sysinstall starts to select the memory range pccard uses; I've tried all options with no success. I still can't select 'ethernet' or something similar as a network interface. Can anyone offer up any help and/or advice, and/or links to docs that will help (I've looked through freebsd-laptop)? Also, is there a method in FreeBSD to get the dmesg exported to the floppy drive somehow? I of course want to include the dmesg in this e-mail, but I'm a n00b so don't know exactly how ;) In OpenBSD I could do: 'mount -d msdos /dev/fd0a /mnt && dmesg > /mnt/dmesg.txt' anything similar in freebsd? Again I greatly appreciate any help provided, and I'll try to get any additional information requested. I normally use this computer as a portable desktop and always have a USB mouse plugged into it. As long as the mouse is plugged in when I boot it works great, but if I unplug it while the system is running and then plug it back in again it stops working. (Or if it is unplugged when I boot and then plug it in after the system is up it doesn't work.) I have tried 3 different mice (all optical) and each of them behaves the same. I assume that there is just something stupid that I am missing to make it work, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. If I plug it in while the system is running the tracking LED won't even come on. I have also tried a usb keyboard and it doesn't work even if it is plugged in while booting. (It works during the bios stage, and in the beastie menu, but after the system is up it stops working. I can turn the numlock light and caps light on after FreeBSD is up and running, but I can't use it to type in a terminal. (The keyboard works fine in both Windows and Linux on this same computer so I know it isn't a junk keyboard.) The track pad also doesn't work at all. (In windows it is listed as an ALPS on a PS/2 port. It also works fine in Linux) I have searched through a ton of archives and a ton of google pages, but can't seem to find anyone with my same situation. Most just don't work at all (like my keyboard), but nobody seems to have a mouse that works till they unplug it and then plug it back in. If anyone can give me some pointers I would really appreciate it. I'm not sure what information you need from me, but just ask and I will supply whatever information you may need. I don't know if it matters, but this is a P4 with Hyper Threading machine using a kernel compiled for SMP. Parts of the kernel config that I assume are relative to this problem: device atkbdc # AT keyboard controller device atkbd # AT keyboard device psm # PS/2 mouse # USB support device uhci # UHCI PCI->USB interface device ohci # OHCI PCI->USB interface device usb # USB Bus (required) #device udbp # USB Double Bulk Pipe devices device ugen # Generic device uhid # "Human Interface Devices" device ukbd # Keyboard device ulpt # Printer device umass # Disks/Mass storage - Requires scbus and da device ums # Mouse device urio # Diamond Rio 500 MP3 player device uscanner # Scanners # USB Ethernet, requires mii device aue # ADMtek USB ethernet device axe # ASIX Electronics USB ethernet device cue # CATC USB ethernet device kue # Kawasaki LSI USB ethernet Relative parts of rc.conf: usbd_enable="YES" moused_enable="YES" moused_type="auto" moused_port="/dev/psm0" I should point out that the device psm0 doesn't exist in /dev. I'm not sure if that is something that should be dynamically created like ums0 or if it is something that I am supposed to create myself. If I'm supposed to create it manually I would really appreciate somebody telling me how to properly create it. I have also changed it to say moused_port="/dev/ums0" in rc.conf but that doesn't seem to help the usb mouse work either. It appears to me as if the usb daemon isn't creating the device when it is plugged in. Doing a ps -ax | grep usb I get. 47 ?? DL 0:00.00 (usb0) 48 ?? DL 0:00.00 (usbtask) 49 ?? As far as keyboards, you currently have to tell FreeBSD to use the USB keyboard via 'kbdcontrol -k /dev/kbd1' using the PS/2 keyboard (yes, this is rather lame, hopefully someday the keyboard driver will be fixed to mux the inputs from all the physical keyboards) > The track pad also doesn't work at all. The keyboard is an annoyance but not the end of the world. Do any 'psm' lines show up in your dmesg? There is no mention of psm anything in dmesg. I have included all the output from dmesg in case it helps. Of course it made this a real long mail, sorry.
