I've booted the FreeBSD 5.2.1-RELEASE floppies successfully but cannot get the computer to detect the following PCMCIA cards: Orineco WaveLAN Wireless Ethernet/Silver card Xircom CE10 CreditCard Ethernet Adapter I know that the Orineco is supported (from what I've gathered from the lists), but FreeBSD does not seem to detect it. I've used the drivers.flp driver set and loaded the if_wi.ko module with still no luck. I also tried the if_xe.ko module to see if it could pickup the Xircom card and still no luck. I'm attempting to do a network install (FTP) to get the system up and running, but so far I cannot get the network devices to detect. PCMCIA problem? At any rate, I got the same error message > yesterday. --Hopefully someone else has stumbled with > this problem. > > Thanks for the URL. The 600E sound implementation is a REALLY weird one...unique to the 600E as far as I can tell. First, the chipset is a Crystal Audio, not ICH. (The 600E pre-dates ICH.) It uses devices csa and csapcm. Second, the csa normally attaches to the PCI, but on the the 600E it is ISA attached. Yuch! The trick is to edit /sys/conf/files and delete the second csa.a line: dev/sound/pci/csa.c optional pcm pci Then edit the csapcm line to read: dev/sound/pci/csapcm.c optional csa pcm pci Then add the line 'hint.pcm.0.flags="0x10"' to /boot/device.hints. This worked prior to the sound naming re-work. Hopefully it still does. -- R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) Ernest O. I had a 600E with FreeBSD 4.9 on it and it worked great. My parents now use it. I used this link to set it up and it worked great. The instructions were very clear. The poster also provides a kernel config file and a XF86Config file. http://tuxmobil.org/ibm_tp600.html Sound worked by adding: device snd device css0 at isa? port 0x530 irq 5 drq 1 device mpu0 at isa? port 0x330 irq 0 to your kernel config file. What worked on mine: 1) Winmodem (using /usr/ports/comms/mwavem) 2) Sound using the above 3) USB document scanning 4) WiFi (DHCP) 5) CUPS printing 6) APM (It could suspend once) I say this because you may be just better off switching to FreeBSD 4.9 or 4.10. Since te 600E does not use the INTEL ICH chips, the devices to use are: device sound device snd_csa You need to edit /sys/conf/files and then build your kernel. That gets you CURRENT. Once 5.3 is declared STABLE, the tag will be "RELENG_5". RELENG_5 will be a branch on the CVS tree and HEAD will become the beginning of V6 (and this will become CURRENT. -- R. I'm trying to get a Linksys EtherFast PCM200 working. I've found a lot of information on older FreeBSD releases, but am having no luck. Could someone kindly point me in the right direction to get this thing working. I'm sure there are some resources out there somewhere, but I'm not coming up with anything. Thank you all for the help.
