This hard-coded values will work for serveraid-6M cards only! sorry for the rest u need to use pciconf -lv to check the device id (????) for your adaptec cards and replace the "????" for the "morpheus_device_id" 0x????. I created the RAID-5 array using 'raidutil', and it built without a problem, except that there's no device associated with it. 'camcontrol devlist' gives: at scbus0 target 0 lun 0 (pass0,da0) at scbus0 target 2 lun 0 (pass1,da1) at scbus0 target 3 lun 0 (pass2,da2) at scbus0 target 6 lun 0 (pass3) at scbus1 target 0 lun 0 (pass18) at scbus1 target 6 lun 0 (pass9) da0 is the RAID-1, da2 and da3 are spare disks not in any array, and the RAID-5 (pass18) is the new array I'd like to label and use. I tried a 'camcontrol rescan all', but this picks up (and gives device names to) all of the individual physical disks in the RAID-5, which should be "hidden" by the controller. Am I missing something? I have read several post regarding the installation issue with serveRaid and know that 1. FreeBSD 4.x don't have the IPS driver which I can use 5 instead. 2. However, there are problem with the vendor ID and device ID with adaptec and so FreeBSD cannot correctly recognize the serveRaid 6i. Post below contains instruction on how to install the FreeBSD on serveRAID 6M with internal and external Disc. http://www.bsdforums.org/forums/sho...light=serveRAID http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/ht...ary/001012.html Post below about exp for FreeBSD 2-BETA with servRAID 4MX http://www.bsdforums.org/forums/sho...light=serveRAID Post about the vendor and device ID fix http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.c...f?r1=1.6&r2=1.7 http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.c...?r1=1.9&r2=1.10 But I have the following question 1. I don't have 6M card so I can't get a helper disk like what the author did 2. Is the Device ID of 6M is that same as 6i and what is the Device ID of 6i if they are different ? Or they have been fixed also like what have been as said under the link http://www.bsdforums.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20473 3. Is 5-current fixes also for serveRAID 6i ? 5. I saw from post above seeems like vendor ID and device ID have been fixed on 19 March, 2003. How can I get the latest installation media with that build ? 6. I have another machine installed FreeBSD, can this machine help ? 7. Or could anyone help list the detailed steps to build a bootable installaion floopy (fixit ?) so as to correctly recognize my serveRAID 6i for installation ? Though I have read the "Release Engineering" article, but I still can't do.... I ran into big trouble after a thermal RAID failure. Our main server is a dual PIII with a Tyan Thunder 2500 main PCB, a AMI MegaRAID Enterprise 1600 four channel RAID controller attached to 9 IBM DDYS 35GB harddrives. 8 disks build up a RAID level 5, one disk is hotspare. Aber several problems in the past with cooling disks in the RAID failed due to termal issues. Two days ago I got a similar problem. One disk died spontanously and the RAID got rebuild on the hot spare disk. But after completion, it seems that another disk failed again. I took the suspected disk out of its cabinet and put it back into its slot (sometimes after such a failure RAID looses disks maybe due to electrical problems, I did not inevstigate further more). After a reboot the server got up again - but lost a partition (or so called slice)! I think the reboot has been performed while the RAID controler was rebuilding the array, but I don't know. It is really corious to me that only the first slice of the amrd0s1 array, containing / /usr /var /tmp and a swap partition, is still active, while the second slice, amrd0s2 seems to be lost. No fsck is performed on this slice (conatining /usr/homes /usr/local), system reports an error "no such device" or similar. Hell, what happend? Where has the second slice been gone? If there is a way to reinitiate a recovery or RAID rebuild or rescue/recover the lost partition, please report me under this eMail address, I would appreciate any comment, help or tip. The RAID controller typically hides physical disk from the OS. I pugged in the first one and mounted it with the following line in my fstab: # Device Mountpoint FStype Options Dump Pass# /dev/da0s1d /usr/files ufs rw 2 2 Everything went smooth and I was able to copy over a large amount of content to the drive. I daisy chained the second one to the first. And added the following line to fstab: # Device Mountpoint FStype Options Dump Pass# /dev/da1s1d /u ufs rw 2 2 That one mounted with no problem as well. I did not copy any files onto this drive, leaving it empty. So far so good. Then... I moved the machine downstairs. I did not change the daisy chain configuration of the drives, I simlply unplugged the single connector and moved the entire unit downstairs. When I booted up, both drives mounted based on my /etc/fstab, except the mount points had reversed. My drive full of content was on /u and the empty drive was on /usr/files/. I tried many different configurations, tried mounting them each seperatly, and everything else I could think of. The only thing that ended up getting it to work was actually swapping th decive names. MY QUESTION IS THIS: Now that I have it working, is there any way to guarantee which drive attaches to which mount point? How is this determined by default, is it whichever drive spins faster at the start? Thanks in advance for any help. ----------------------------------------------------------- This eMail was sent using BuildingOnline's Challenge eMail. Get 100% spam free!
