I have been looking for drivers for STABLE and found this post: http://www.atm.tut.fi/list-archive/freebsd-stable/msg08427.html It mentions a module (sources), which you can download here: http://www.icplus.com.tw/Data/driver/TC902X_FreeBSD.zip The chipset comes from the company: Tamarack Microelectronics Inc. in Taiwan. I installed it on my STABLE box and it seems to work fine. Can someone of the committers take a look at the sources? I think the license is OK (it seems to be a BSD-type license). I hope that you can confirm that it is safe to use this module. For those who want to try it, here some advice (it's really weird, so read it please): 1) unzip the file in an empty folder 2) extract the tar-ball 3) rename the Readme.txt to rio.tgz 4) extract rio.tgz 5) cp the Makefile from ./rio subdirectory to the directory with the module sources 6) create a soft-link "pci -> ." in the same directory 7) run make 8) done, the result is: if_rio.ko I've asked to add it to ports ealier, but noone answered to me. I have tested this driver for 3 weeks now and it works well for me on FreeBSD-4.9-STABLE. It does not compile on CURRENT. [*] Actually it previously had a 4.8 install on it. I did an install over and newfs'd all the slices except data slices /u, /v, /w; I noticed that sysinstall did an fsck_ffs on those slices. I had compiled and was running my own kernel, which was just GENERIC with some stuff taken out (removed I486/I586, INET6, most of the SCSI stuff). I was getting ready to compile an nvidia network driver - I had attached a USB floppy, copied some files off it, and unmounted the floppy, before doing the lines shown above. The system was running for several hours yesterday, including a complete kernel rebuild, without any crashing - so I'm fairly sure the hardware is OK. The only odd thing I have noticed about this system is that when running the GENERIC kernel (from the install CD or after installation), it locks up just after mounting the root filesystem, requiring a hard reboot. The only way to get round this is to choose "safe mode" at boot time. However when running my own compiled kernel I don't have this problem. A diff of my kernel against GENERIC is attached. Sorry I don't have anything else like a crash dump. I was rather hoping not to see this sort of problem with 5.2.1; maybe I should just install 4.9 instead :-( Regards, Brian. --6TrnltStXW4iwmi0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="GENERIC.diff" --- GENERIC Mon Jan 26 19:42:11 2004 +++ PLAYDOG Fri Jan 3 09:04:03 2003 @@ -19,10 +19,10 @@ # I don't know which DHCP client you're using on your Linux machines, so no answer for you. FreeBSD dhclient needs something like this in /etc/dhclient.conf: send host-name "myhostname"; Check the manpage of your Linux dhclient for commandline options or config file syntax. - Oliver -- | Oliver Brandmueller | Offenbacher Str. 1 | Germany D-14197 Berlin | | Fon +49-172-3130856 | Fax +49-172-3145027 | WWW: http://the.addict.de/ | | Ich bin das Internet. System is SMP with two PII/300's and an Intel Pro100+ card. No problems. I'm using the ahc driver with the onboard Adaptec 789X dual-channel controller. The primary channel has 5 23GB Seagate Elite drives on it, the secondary 4 46GB Seagate Elite drives. The RAID arrays are not used for booting or swap. Unless run by root, "ps -ax" refuses to print the command line associated with each process. I've checked a couple things: 1. /bin/ps is not SGID kmem and /dev/kmem permission is set to 0640, but that isn't the cause of this problem (though it may cause others, since the ps(1) man page says it needs to read /dev/kmem). 2. /proc/*/cmdline is owned by root:wheel and has 0444 permissions. It should therefore be usable by ps(1) regardless of who runs it. So it looks like command lines should print, but they don't. The line in the kernel config (as confirmed by LINT) was this: options SHMMAXPGS=8192 # max amount of shared memory pages (4k) options SHMALL="(SHMMAXPGS*PAGE_SIZE+1)" options SHMMAX="(SHMMAXPGS*PAGE_SIZE+1)" Thinking perhaps this was no longer valid, I tried again by doing the math myself, but I got the same result; kern.ipc.shmmax=4096. For now I'm just setting this in sysctl.conf, but I'm curious as to what has changed, or what I'm doing wrong.
