We haven't decided pretty much anything yet and it's just an idea but I would like to know if it would be possible to have a zone delegated to a name server like ourname.br.freebsd.org ? Some people have domains but they are personal (like mine) and it wouldn't be nice to use them. We can register a domain locally, that's true, but *.br.freebsd.org would just be better I think :) It's just a possibility since we haven't started anything until now. I'm asking because I saw the Sydney group (bugs.au.freebsd.org) and thought it could be a common practise. BTW, our soon-to-be group is located in Maringa, Brazil. Thank you, -- Giovanni P. I needed the mod_auth_pwcheck to work with Apache-2, but the www/mod_auth_pwcheck port only works with Apache-1.3.x. I also needed the "file-owner" and "file-group" authorization words to work (they exist in Apache-1.3.x' mod_auth, but are absent from Apache-2's): http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/mod_auth.html I went on to update Anton's code, but the resulting patch is bigger than the original (I shortened some names too), and -- being a security related port -- should be reviewed. Anton himself can not do that beyond a glance-over, and he is not using Apache-2 himself. Any takers? I've placed the patch and the new version of the module as http://virtual-estates.net/port-stuff/mod_auth_pwcheck-apache2.txt and http://virtual-estates.net/port-stuff/mod_auth_pwcheck.c respectively. The module can be built simply with ``apxs -c''. There may be bugs in there, which are from Anton's original code -- I plan to fix those in the existing port and create the new www/mod_auth_pwcheck2 next to it. Thanks for any input. At the end of the above page there is a link to http://people.freebsd.org/~bsd/prstats/ and here the graphs show total amount of open PRs more than 3000 for now, and a quick search in PR database confirms this number. I hope I just oversite something, otherwise such a 'hiding problems' can be used against FreeBSD. I think that, to some extent, openly admitting what problems we have or may have is a 'good thing'. But on the same note I think it would make perfect ammunition for anyone wanting to disprove the reliability of FreeBSD. A lot of people say that the developers on FreeBSD work extremely hard to ensure quality code, but the PR base is a wonderful argument against that. We have a ton of really good developers who put a lot of time and effort into FreeBSD. But to those who have never worked on an operating system or large software project, the PR base might give them a reason to argue our abilities. Sad, but true. -- Tom Rhodes From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Apr 22 20:26:15 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0E55816A4CE; Thu, 22 Apr 2004 20:26:15 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mail.soaustin.net (mail.soaustin.net [207.200.4.66]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E0C8443D31; Thu, 22 Apr 2004 20:26:04 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from linimon@lonesome.com) Received: by mail.soaustin.net (Postfix, from userid 502) id 8DEE9147C3; Thu, 22 Apr 2004 22:26:04 -0500 (CDT) Date: Thu, 22 Apr 2004 22:26:04 -0500 (CDT) From: Mark Linimon X-X-Sender: linimon@pancho To: Tom Rhodes In-Reply-To: <20040422164207.39ab069b@localhost> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII cc: freebsd-www@FreeBSD.org cc: Vladimir Chukharev Subject: Re: Are the PR statistics graphs correct? There is a 'peanut gallery' of people who think that FreeBSD is archaic, or has a Bad License Religion, or is run by an Evil Conspiracy, and any number of other equally silly things. We can never satisfy those people: I've spent some effort down that line, and am currently "retired" from that role after having come to that conclusion :-) But what we _can_ do is keep the spirit of openness that we currently have, both to keep relations good with our current user base, and to attract new ones that can read between the lines of the FUD. Obscurity, in this case, would simply give the conspiracy-theorists more ammunition. I think it would be a real mistake. Let's keep the transparency we currently have on this issue. mcl From owner-freebsd-www@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Apr 23 03:00:57 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8984216A4CE for ; Fri, 23 Apr 2004 03:00:57 -0700 (PDT) Received: from meitner.wh.uni-dortmund.de (meitner.wh.Uni-Dortmund.DE [129.217.129.133]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4424643D55 for ; Fri, 23 Apr 2004 03:00:57 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from michaelnottebrock@gmx.net) Received: from lofi.dyndns.org (pc2-105.intern.meitner [10.3.12.105]) by meitner.wh.uni-dortmund.de (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5FC531675BB for ; Fri, 23 Apr 2004 12:00:56 +0200 (CEST) Received: from [192.168.8.4] (kiste.my.domain [192.168.8.4]) (authenticated bits=0) by lofi.dyndns.org (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id i3NA0tYB073173 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=RC4-MD5 bits=128 verify=NO) for ; Fri, 23 Apr 2004 12:00:56 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from michaelnottebrock@gmx.net) From: Michael Nottebrock To: www@FreeBSD.org Date: Fri, 23 Apr 2004 12:00:55 +0200 User-Agent: KMail/1.6.2 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; micalg=pgp-sha1; boundary="Boundary-02=_XlOiAhItx4GZ7Mn"; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <200404231200.55457.michaelnottebrock@gmx.net> X-Virus-Scanned: by amavisd-new Subject: Search engine working less than optimal X-BeenThere: freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Project Webmasters List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 23 Apr 2004 10:00:57 -0000 --Boundary-02=_XlOiAhItx4GZ7Mn Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Disposition: inline =2E.. at leat, it to not index the FAQ very well.
