This is a VERY BAD idea. - The patch doesn't pass the round-trip test (many private area mappings missing from the Big5-2003 -> Unicode direction). - It breaks the CP950 encoding. - It is based on a mapping table that has some problematic mappings. (12 known problems). I have a patch, but because I'm > traveling, I have not had a chance to commit it. Two independent issues I suppose. The libgnomecanvas caused the composer to crash, the calendar one is from gal2. Excellent work on getting this fixed, Marcus. I'm so glad you found a way to commit it while traveling. Evolution is my most-used application. We don't maintain Straw and you should have contact to the Straw developers. Anyway, not all RSS will show the full stuff unless you are saying that it's something broke in Straw. Some website's RSS will only show headline, some will show headline + half article and some will show headline and full article. BTW: Install either net/liferea or net/blam, they are better than Straw IMO. I can't even begin to explain how imperative I think this is. The following steps must take place: I. Immediately 1. All GNOME 1 components should be renamed (foo -> foo1). This is *WAY* overdue. II. Before GNOME 3 (ASAP) 1. All GNOME 2 components should be repocopied to a numberless name (foo2 -> foo). 2. The name should reflect the proper package name whenever possible (i.e. gnome-desktop, not gnomedesktop). III. When GNOME 3 is released 1. GNOME 2 stuff should immediately be repocopied to a versioned name/number (foo -> foo2). 2. GNOME 3 stuff should go in an unnumbered name (foo). This should be our definitive convention: if a port directory specifies a number, it is an old version (i.e. gtkmm should be the current gtkmm; gtkmm22 should be the old version, and gtk--/gtk--2 needs to go away immediately). 3. We should *not* preserve the GNOME 2 desktop. Once GNOME 3 comes out, I assume that there will be no more 2.x releases. We should only preserve components necessary to support individual apps, and those should be phased out as quickly as possible. This should be I would start with foo3. The idea behind is very simple. A normal user as me gets always confused when version change as there is no version in the base name. When the package itself is foo3, it is obvious for me that it is version there. Keeping the version in the name enables me also to add links to my system for my current defaults. Think also of the normal users when working with it. A clear numbering schema without changes at the base helps them to accept a package. I think it makes things clearer. AFAIK the "no dashes" rule was put in place to make ${PKGNAME} parsing simpler, which is no longer an issue. # Adam -- Adam Weinberger adamw@magnesium.net || adamw@FreeBSD.org adamw@vectors.cx || adamw@gnome.org http://www.vectors.cx From owner-freebsd-gnome@FreeBSD.ORG Fri May 27 08:11:11 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: gnome@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-gnome@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 67A1C16A502; Fri, 27 May 2005 08:11:11 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from krion@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1245F43D48; Fri, 27 May 2005 08:11:11 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from krion@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (krion@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j4R8BA6m084824; Fri, 27 May 2005 08:11:10 GMT (envelope-from krion@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from krion@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id j4R8BAp9084820; Fri, 27 May 2005 08:11:10 GMT (envelope-from krion) Date: Fri, 27 May 2005 08:11:10 GMT From: Kirill Ponomarew Message-Id: <200505270811.j4R8BAp9084820@freefall.freebsd.org> To: krion@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-ports-bugs@FreeBSD.org, gnome@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: ports/81541: building of accessibility/gnomespeech fails.
