Hi,
This is probably more for freebsd-docs, but I reckoned this should be the first port of call in case I'm wrong.

Last week I gave up on trying to get SATA hardware RAID running until it matures and decided to fall back to the old reliable, SCSI. Placing an order for a new server I checked that the SCSI RAID adapter, an Adaptec 29320 was on the supported hardware list. It was. I looked at the ahd(4). There were no bugs listed for the x3920 family. I ordered it.

I have now learned what everybody else appears to already know: yes, it does talk to the bus, it just doesn't talk to the hostraid array.

Hindsight shows me that had I also searched some mailing lists I could have found this out. Hindsight also tells me that there should also be a note on the hardware page and the manpage mentioning that the hostraid functionality is not supported.

Is there any reason not to do this?

Thanks,
-fr.

Hi dudes,

I have a little problem with my external disk drive, my data transfer
rate is 1.000MB/s.
I have USB 2.0 so the rate is larger, right?
Somebody has an idea how to enlarge the rate?

Regards,

Carlos

Hi,

You're probably using USB 1.1 driver instead of USB 2.0.
To enable USB 2.0 you have to recompile your kernel with :

device ehci

Take a look at :
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/usb-disks.html

Best Regards
Carlos Santos (Portugal) :-)

Hi,

What version are you running ?
It's a known problem.
I'm testing with the latest 5 version (5.4 prerelease) and now it's
reporting the USB 2.0 device on an intel based motherboard as
40MB/s. (with 5.3 it was reported as 1.0MB/s)
So it looks like the support for USB 2.0 has improved from 5.3 .

regards,
Edwin Ringersma

Hi All,

I'm reading freebsd source code for device autoconfiguration. I found
it's hard to understand. Is there any links that I can read before
going to undertand what they are doing? thx.

Tony
