Position: Network System Administrator Job ID: FBSD-20050630-001 Location: Orlando, Florida, USA Required Skills - Strong interpersonal and communication skills. - Independent problem-solving, self-direction. - Comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration;=20 for example, configuration of mail systems, system installation and=20 configuration, printer systems, fundamentals of security, installing=20 third-party software. - Has a solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system; understands=20 paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what=20 device drivers do, filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical=20 partitions). - Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment=20 concepts; can configure NFS and NIS, NT domains; can use nslookup or=20 dig to check information in the DNS; understands basic routing concepts. - Ability to write scripts in some administrative language=20 (Tk, Perl, PHP, a shell). - Ability to do minimal debugging and modification of C programs. Required Background - Three to five years of system administration experience. Desirable Background and Skills - A degree in computer science or a related field. - Commercial firewall experience - Experience with FreeBSD - stable, current, and release. - Experience with Windows 2000/XP Professional and Server, Mac OSX. - Experience with qmail and ezmlm-idx. - Experience with Cisco routers running IOS, and configuring and=20 maintaining BGP. - Experience with registering and maintaining route objects (radb,altdb, etc). - DNS experience: BIND, djbdns, experience dealing with registrars=20 such as Network Solutions, Godaddy, and ARIN. - Significant programming background in any applicable language. Appropriate Responsibilities - Receives general instructions for new responsibilities from supervisor. - Administers a complex site alone or assists in the administration=20 of a larger site. - Initiates some new responsibilities and helps to plan for the future=20 of the site/network. - Manages novice system administrators or operators. - Evaluates and/or recommends purchases; has strong influence on purchasing. Helpful Experience - Experience with MSDN licensing. - Experience using and administering MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Filemaker=20 (replication experience is a plus) - Experience installing, maintaining, and tuning Apache with mod_ssl=20 and mod_php. - Experience configuring and maintaining Amanda for backups. - Experience with a broad range of firewall products. - Experience with network security, building firewalls, deploying=20 authentication systems and applying cryptography to network applications - Experience with network monitoring - Experience with comprehensive site disaster recovery planning and implementation.
