If the receiver hears the packet and sends an ack, but the ack is lost, the sender will retransmit, leading to two copies of the packet. In theory a receiver could filter dups, but I haven't noticed code to do this. So I would suggest trying with other traffic and seeing if it is really a ICMPv6-specific problem. Your description makes it sound to me like something other than 802.11 MAC-layer dups are happening, though. In theory a I am not sure if this is a 802.11 layer problem but a poor wireless connection. You get this on IPv4 as well. The accesspoint will retransmit automatically at lower speed when delivery is not confirmed within time. Same should happen on the wireless client, so indeed you have three player here where you may have connection quality problems. You may set this net.inet.tcp.rexmit_min higher to get better results on wireless networks with slower latencies but setting this will not resolve your connection problem. You should better check your antenas and AP settings. I > would also suggest tcpdumping on the host behind the router and the > hostap machine. when pinging a host behind the access point/ router, the DUPs still happen, but tcpdump on the pinged host reports only one reply for each request. i should have mentioned that there is no problem whatsoever with the client and another hostap (which is same hardware, same setup). also, the antennas are about 5 cm away from each other, and i changed the frequency to the one which worked with the other hostap, which did not help at all. i dont think that a 802.11b retransmit would occur with such predictablility and regularity, especially in my test environment. (there are a _LOT_ of echo replies on the ether ;) i have noticed that the machine which i suspect is causing the trouble has a different station firmware version. dmesg on the two good machines tells me: wi0: using RF:PRISM2 MAC:HFA3841 CARD:HWB3163 rev.A wi0: Intersil Firmware: Primary (0.3.0), Station (1.7.1) while on the bad machine its wi0: using RF:PRISM2 MAC:HFA3841 CARD:HWB3163 rev.A wi0: Intersil Firmware: Primary (0.3.0), Station (0.8.3) i dont even know what a station firmware does, but i can imagine this being the guilty party. so my next question would be: how do i dump the firmware of a prism2 card in freebsd and subsequently flash it on another host? :) thnx, /folkert /* _ _ * _|| _ * || folkert@feedface.com * */ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.1 (Darwin) iD8DBQFDHE18IA10xPlRIZURArI6AJ46sukIUCpEffjb7AWH80ZQ/szFFwCgkpwS /V77KiVXyv/z8tvEiBh7qNw= =sFRW -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Sep 5 16:41:36 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8D30D16A41F for ; Mon, 5 Sep 2005 16:41:36 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from sam@errno.com) Received: from ebb.errno.com (ebb.errno.com [66.127.85.87]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CA9DE43D46 for ; Mon, 5 Sep 2005 16:41:33 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from sam@errno.com) Received: from [66.127.85.91] ([66.127.85.91]) (authenticated bits=0) by ebb.errno.com (8.12.9/8.12.6) with ESMTP id j85GfSBd007997 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO); Mon, 5 Sep 2005 09:41:29 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from sam@errno.com) Message-ID: <431C76D5.9040208@errno.com> Date: Mon, 05 Sep 2005 09:48:21 -0700 From: Sam Leffler User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.2 (X11/20050327) X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: snap-users@kame.net References: <49D89F36-BEDB-4FAE-80BE-3F73FA74D773@feedface.com> In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: Folkert Saathoff , freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: Re: (KAME-snap 9225) Re: DUPlicate icmpv6 echo replies over wi0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 05 Sep 2005 16:41:36 -0000 Greg Troxel wrote: > The 802.11 mac layer can cause duplicates. For wi you wouldn't see code as this is done in the firmware (except possibly for hostap operation which isn't going on here). The best way to isolate out what's going on is to sniff from a 3rd station. The card in the X series is an Atheros based card that works with ath(4), at least according the the X40 sites. My X40 has the Intel card which is fine for coffee shop access, but I use a Cisco a/b/g cardbus adapter for WPA encrypted networks. -- Brooks --=20 Any statement of the form "X is the one, true Y" is FALSE. Take a look in "man wpa_supplicant.conf" You can configure some "hosts" and put some priority in each host. wpa_supplicant can roaming through networks and do too much more. Is there someone that can point to me which model support those features? BTW, if there is another brand other than Acer that have an ACPI smart battery subsystem (I think Fujitsu do have some), and is a centrino model, do not hesitate to talk to me for them... Worked like a hot damn, and let me finally use WPA-PSK (D-LINK DWL-G650 rev. b2, NetGEAR WG511T, built-in Atheros AR5212, connected to a D-LINK DWL DI 624 rev. c1) in Windows XP and FreeBSD. Then wpa_supplicant was imported into the base for 6-CURRENT, and I just copied my conf file over to /etc, uninstalled the port, added WPA to the ifconfig line in rc.conf, and kept on trucking. Maybe the wpa_supplicant port has been updated to the point it no longer works with 5.x, but there was a good 6 months there where I used it regularly. -- Freddie Cash fcash@ocis.net From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Sep 7 22:42:23 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AA6BA16A41F for ; Wed, 7 Sep 2005 22:42:23 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from incmc@gmx.de) Received: from mail.gmx.net (mail.gmx.net [213.165.64.20]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 622AC43D6B for ; Wed, 7 Sep 2005 22:42:19 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from incmc@gmx.de) Received: (qmail invoked by alias); 07 Sep 2005 22:42:18 -0000 Received: from dsl-084-061-037-102.arcor-ip.net (EHLO ms.homeip.net) [84.61.37.102] by mail.gmx.net (mp006) with SMTP; 08 Sep 2005 00:42:18 +0200 X-Authenticated: #15946415 Received: from p508f63e6.dip.t-dialin.net ([80.143.99.230] helo=nix-rechnername-auspaehen-hier) by ms.homeip.net with esmtpsa (SSLv3:RC4-MD5:128) id 1ED8cY-000Gmf-QF; Thu, 08 Sep 2005 00:42:22 +0200 From: Jochen Gensch To: Takanori Watanabe , freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2005 00:42:09 +0200 User-Agent: KMail/1.8.2 References: <200509010208.j8128JL5037378@ns.init-main.com> In-Reply-To: <200509010208.j8128JL5037378@ns.init-main.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-15" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-Id: <200509080042.09598.incmc@gmx.de> X-Y-GMX-Trusted: 0 Cc: Subject: Re: Radeontool - Usage unter FreeBSD X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 07 Sep 2005 22:42:23 -0000 Am Donnerstag 01 September 2005 04:08 schrieben Sie: > >I've tried the ported version and it enables me to turn off / on the > >backlight manually. This is a VERY common problem on many, many laptops, but it's not the keys pressing against the screen that does the damage. It's the acidic oils left on the keys by your fingers. It's etching the screen over time. Most of the marks is the oil and this can be cleaned off with an alcohol wipe. But if the display is actually etched, it's permanent, so don't let that happen. Place a soft cloth of some sort over the keyboard before closing it. Wipe of any marks as quickly as possible. The etching takes place over a LONG time and removing any oils from the screen on a regular basis should prevent it. -- R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) Ernest O. I have a 6.0-B1 CD that I am trying to install from. 6.0-B1 doesn't turn it off, but it does hang with a frozen ACII spinning character immediately after displaying: /boot/kernel/acpi.ko text=0x41e40 data-0x20e0+0x10b0 syms[0x4+0x7740+0x4+0x9ead] If I interrupt the boot manager, and enter: unset acpi_load boot It still hangs with a frozen ASCII spinner character, but there is no acpi.ko message. I don't know a lot about ACPI stuff.
