I've increased the latency timer to the next power of 2 (are values between 2^x and 2^(x+1) useful to test too?) and now it's fun to listen to the sound (now I not only play status beeps, but play music too again). The music playing part is using mpd (musicpd) with both a local and a web based interface. Now I need a music ripper, so that the users can rip musoic cd's to mp3 / ogg files (the machine has a cd drive). Personally, I prefer abcde, but I can't expect the users to deal with a command line program. I'll have to supply a gui based solution. Is there a good ripper that have both local (read X) and web based interfaces? Or perhaps a GUI frontend for abcde? I checked with Google, but couldn't find anything. -- Regards, Torfinn Ingolfsen, Norway From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Oct 11 21:39:09 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3160016A420 for ; Tue, 11 Oct 2005 21:39:09 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from willmaier@ml1.net) Received: from out3.smtp.messagingengine.com (out3.smtp.messagingengine.com [66.111.4.27]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ADC6A43D53 for ; Tue, 11 Oct 2005 21:39:00 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from willmaier@ml1.net) Received: from frontend1.internal (mysql-sessions.internal [10.202.2.149]) by frontend1.messagingengine.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7B804CD1B12 for ; Tue, 11 Oct 2005 17:38:58 -0400 (EDT) Received: from frontend2.messagingengine.com ([10.202.2.151]) by frontend1.internal (MEProxy); Tue, 11 Oct 2005 17:38:58 -0400 X-Sasl-enc: QGPluAixOAzUIoozuUDH7Bhk3asagT4t1gIGIDFHQ57P 1129066737 Received: from merkur (host-66-202-74-42.choiceone.net [66.202.74.42]) by frontend2.messagingengine.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 47D60570394 for ; Tue, 11 Oct 2005 17:38:57 -0400 (EDT) Received: by merkur (nbSMTP-1.00) for uid 1000 willmaier@ml1.net; Tue, 11 Oct 2005 16:39:02 -0500 (CDT) Date: Tue, 11 Oct 2005 16:38:56 -0500 From: Will Maier To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20051011213856.GJ29905@localdomain> Mail-Followup-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org References: <20051011222723.0638668f.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20051011222723.0638668f.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6+20040907i Subject: Re: FreeBSD music ripper recommendation? There are quite a few graphical cd rippers; I've used sound-juicer (GNOME) most recently. It doesn't have a web interface, though; neither do any other X-based rippers I know of. To do that, you might end up having to write some Perl/PHP CGI scripts to fetch track listings and perfom the ripping. -- o--------------------------{ Will Maier }--------------------------o | jabber:..wcmaier@jabber.ccc.de | email:..........wcmaier@ml1.net | | \.........wcmaier@cae.wisc.edu | \..........wcmaier@cae.wisc.edu | *------------------[ BSD Unix: Live Free or Die ]------------------* From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Oct 11 22:33:02 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9D0E316A41F for ; Tue, 11 Oct 2005 22:33:02 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ppi@amug.org) Received: from jade.spiritone.com (jade.aracnet.com [216.99.193.136]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 51D1E43D49 for ; Tue, 11 Oct 2005 22:33:02 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ppi@amug.org) Received: from wyeth.trail.calm (216-99-219-236.dial.spiritone.com [216.99.219.236]) by jade.spiritone.com (8.13.4/8.12.8) with ESMTP id j9BMWuhw002211; Tue, 11 Oct 2005 15:32:57 -0700 Received: from wyeth.trail.calm (localhost.trail.calm [127.0.0.1]) by wyeth.trail.calm (8.13.1/8.12.8) with ESMTP id j9BMiaZT062012; Tue, 11 Oct 2005 15:44:37 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from ppi@amug.org) Received: (from mark@localhost) by wyeth.trail.calm (8.13.1/8.12.8/Submit) id j9BMiXSB062011; Tue, 11 Oct 2005 15:44:33 -0700 (PDT) X-Authentication-Warning: wyeth.trail.calm: mark set sender to ppi@amug.org using -f Date: Tue, 11 Oct 2005 15:44:33 -0700 From: ppi@amug.org To: Torfinn Ingolfsen Message-ID: <20051011224433.GR1251@wyeth.trail.calm> References: <20051011222723.0638668f.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20051011222723.0638668f.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.10i Cc: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: FreeBSD music ripper recommendation? Does the TechnoTrend-budget C-1500 do things that the pcHDTV HD-3000 tuner card doesn't? pcHDTV is the most open/free source friendly tuner card vendor I found. I've been looking for an inexpensive ATSC receiver that has freely available datasheets and specs (i.e. datasheets that you don't have to contact a company employee to get, since I've been having soo much trouble with ATI).. and I haven't found one... I've looked at the pcHDTV, besides being over priced, the CX23883 docs aren't publicly available on Conexant's website, nor does www.pcHDTV.com provide you with a download of the datasheets... You'd think that with how much they want to support open source they'd provide these for d/l... I've looked at DVico's FusionHDTV 5 Lite (which you can pick up for $99), but even though they supposedly provided information to write a Linux driver, when I asked them for the specs, all they did was direct me to the Linux driver's web site and said come back if you have questions... Well, I did have a simple question, which was for specs and datasheets, if only they had answered it.. the site they pointed me to did not have anything relating to the specs of the card... I did find a datasheet sheet for the Fusion878 chip, but I couldn't find any specs on the LG tuner and decoder module (plus the 878 spec sheet contained no information on how to receive digital info over the video bus, which they said was the same as analog)... Sorry if I sound a bit sore, but I've been trying to find a card in the $100-$150 range (I'd like two) for the last month or two that is open enough to be able to write a driver for, and haven't found anything yet... (Besides me being busy with other projects and work, which means I haven't had that much time to put into looking for one)... I'm willing to do most of the work to get a driver written for an ATSC HDTV receiver card, the only requirement is that I have full and complete specs and datasheets to the card and chips on that card (and of course a card)...
