Yes, indeed. Going into BIOS and enabling ACPI-2.0 solved the problem. I wonder, how the OS install succeeded without that, however. The new firmware (2.36) is available from Compaq but the tools expect either Linux (32 or 64-bit) or Windows (32-bit). But neither FreeBSD nor Windows/x64 (the free Windows available today) is supported. I tried running the Linux binary, but it seems to be looking for /dev/ciss/c0d0 instead of /dev/ciss0, that I have... Has anyone ever updated the ciss' firmware on FreeBSD? I'm going to try with Knoppix now, but would rather find a way to do this from within FreeBSD... However we use FreeBSD for its stability and security, so we want to use well-supported, able to be monitored, and reliable RAID controllers. Cost is much less of an issue, as compared to downtime. The MegaRAID controllers are unacceptable to us, given these requirements. To achieve better portability and code reuse across platforms Open-iSCSI project moves 75% of the code to the user-space. Kernel is only concerns about data moving. Working implementation available for Linux-2.6.x. > Read more on project's web page. > > Could we join your effort for existing iSCSI/CAM beta and Open-iSCSI? sure, but how? we have similar objectives, ie, let the kernel do what it knows best, and the user level do the rest. In my case: user: - login/discovery - connection/connection-recovery kernel: - data moving (which sounds a bit of an understatement) - answer to NOP_OUTs the idea is that the kernel does most of the job, until the connection breaks down, and then it's the user program's job to do the reconnect. i've written so far some 8k lines of code (still missing some 2 months of coding) and you have already done some 18k. and then there is the little problem of GPL vs. BSD :-) danny PS: I hope this does not sound too pessimistic, I realy would like to join efforts. After searching a little bit I found one open bug reports about the same problem (ports/72520) but I know there is one more, that I did not found. My question is if there is somebody who has a adaptec scsi raid controller similar to the 2100S up and running with 5.x and is using this asr-utils port? It would be great if I could get this port make work. If not do I have any other option to monitor my raid set? I don't like adding more band-aids to FreeBSD to cope with severe design flaws in the software that are fairly easy to fix. Please get rid of the dmesg scraping that tries to create /dev nodes on the fly based on how the asr major number was previously displayed during boot. Please remove the ioctls that make the kernel poke around in Option ROM memory. Please remove the ioctls that try to retrieve silly system stats from the kernel. Please fix the silly signal handling that pervades the low-level API and makes it impossible to port it or incorporate it in more advanced front-ends. Was it ever determined if there were a legal source version of the old utils? I remember talk about it but never any conclusion? (note I haven't looked closely into it myself, just followed the threads about the topic). --=20 Simon L. This wasn't a U320 SCSI system by any chance? The reason I ask is that it is very similar to problem a few months ago, on a Tyan S2881, which turned out to be pci-x bus related. Have also seen similar/identical issues with other Tyan boards when used with U320 SCSI controllers. -- Roger Marquis Roble Systems Consulting http://www.roble.com/ >>From: Ramberto Cumagun >>Cc: Patricia Jadrich , >> Anton Rajakoone , Randy Arruda , >> Chuck Bartlett >>Subject: S2881 / Adaptec 2200S issue >>Date: Tue, 14 Sep 2004 12:09:33 -0700 >> >> >>Purpose of this email is to notify you that we have verified the >>compatibility issue with Tyan S2881 and Adaptec 2200S.
