Hello,

I don't know if this is the correct place to report this error. Please point
me in the correct place if not.

I have an Imation flash drive 2.2 which gives me the following error when I
try to mount it with.

Mount_msdos /dev/da0 /mnt or mount_msdos /dev/da0s1 /mnt

Da0:reading primary partition table : error reading fsbn0

Then:

Umass0: BBB reset failed , TIMEOUT and lots of other messages.

I removed the device and the kernel eventually detached umass0 then disabled
uhub0 port1

The drive works fine in windows. I'm wondering if the problem is with the
computer itself as its "old"

I'm using freebsd 4.4 release 2

Glenn ,

Australia.

Too old to be of interest I suspect.
FreeBSD 4.11 is available.
5 series has better USB support I've heard.
5.3 exists, 5-stable is better, 5.4 due in a week or 2
You'd better explore http://www.freebsd.org & start downloading.

A common thing to do is to disable the read cache and only enable
write caching for your container.

CLI > open aac0
Executing: open "aac0"

AAC0> container show cache 0
Executing: container show cache 0

Global Container Read Cache Size : 0
Global Container Write Cache Size : 16203776

Read Cache Setting : DISABLE
Write Cache Setting : ENABLE ALWAYS
Write Cache Status : Active, not protected, battery not present

Hope this helps.

Thanks, it helped a bit ;-)

Now I have:

_container > show cache 0
Executing: container show cache 0

Global Container Read Cache Size : 0
Global Container Write Cache Size : 16203776

Read Cache Setting : ENABLE
Write Cache Setting : ENABLE ALWAYS
Write Cache Status : Active, not protected, battery not present

The array speed is up to 35 MB/s (it is still not enough).

The only thing - I didn't have succes in turning the Read Cache off.

this is typically the throughput you get with U160 drives. This
should go up to 70 MB/s with U320 drives (YMMV, but this is what
I usually get here with RAID 5 arrays of 3-5 disks).

Also keep in mind that the 2120S is not a performance monster (the
2200S seems better on this point)

You have to do all the changes in 1 command :

container set cache /read_cache_enable=false /unprotected=true 0
