The device is recognized as mass storage under Windows. In my first attempt under 5.4-PRERELEASE #1, the device showed up as ugen0, so I modified /usr/src/dev/usb/umass.c and /usr/src/dev/usb/usbdevs. I tried a whole bunch of quirks and got the best results with the following modifications: usbdevs: vendor CMEDIA 0x0d8c C-Media Inc. product CMEDIA CM120 0x5000 CM120 Card Reader umass.c: { USB_VENDOR_CMEDIA, USB_PRODUCT_CMEDIA_CM120, RID_WILDCARD, UMASS_PROTO_ATAPI | UMASS_PROTO_CBI_I, NO_QUIRKS }, After that, the device showed up as: Mar 9 16:42:58 mymachine kernel: umass0: C-Media Inc. USB Card Reader, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 2 Mar 9 16:42:58 mymachine kernel: da0 at umass-sim0 bus 0 target 0 lun 0 Mar 9 16:42:58 mymachine kernel: da0: < > Fixed Direct Access SCSI-0 device Mar 9 16:42:58 mymachine kernel: da0: 1.000MB/s transfers Mar 9 16:42:58 mymachine kernel: da0: 0MB (1213420628 0 byte sectors: 0H 0S/T 0C) But as you can see, da0 is said to have 0MB and when trying to mount it, the system throws a kernel panic (integer divide fault). Is there any other way than try and error to find the right quirks for this device? Maybe someone can interpret the specifications supplied by the vendor. They are available under http://www.cmedia.com.tw/product/CM120.htm I saw that card readers with this chip are widely sold, so I think it would be interesting to have it working. regards, Jost Menke -- DSL Komplett von GMX +++ Supergünstig und stressfrei einsteigen! I am using a KVM switch that does not keep a live connection to the computer when switching between computers ie. the computers show that the usb keyboard/mouse are unplugged when you switch between them. My problem occurs when the i switch from my Windows box back to my FreeBSD box. The USB deamon on the BSD box shows that the keyboard is recognized and loads it but when i try to use the keyboard nothing comes up. The USB keyboard does work when I reboot the BSD box and dont switch between computers. Now how I get the USB keyboard to work when i switch between computers I have to run this script. sleep 15 kbdcontrol -k /dev/kbd1 < /dev/ttyv0 > /dev/null Apparently when I reboot the box everything works fine, the USB keyboard is accessed as kbd0 -> ukbd0 but when I switch between boxes and switch back the keyboard doesnt get mounted at kbd0 -> ukbd0 but instead is mounted at kbd1 -> ukbd1. So my question is how do I get FreeBSD to always mount the keyboard as kbd0 -> ukbd0 and not kbd1 -> ukbd1 Because upon bootup my kbdcontrol is called as: kbdcontrol -k /dev/kbd0 < /dev/ttyv0 > /dev/null and cannot be called wih kbd1 because at bootup that device does not exist, and also that device disappears when I swicth to my other computer so kbdcontrol sets itself back to kbd0. I also use hint.atkbd.0.disabled="1" in loader.conf since I have no PS/2 device From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Mar 9 19:25:52 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3474716A4CE; Wed, 9 Mar 2005 19:25:52 +0000 (GMT) Received: from mail.mdanderson.org (mail.mdanderson.org [143.111.251.38]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A410243D8F; Wed, 9 Mar 2005 19:25:51 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from jonathan@fosburgh.org) Received: by jef-nt.mdacc.tmc.edu (Postfix, from userid 1001) id D8795209; Wed, 9 Mar 2005 13:25:39 -0600 (CST) From: Jonathan Fosburgh To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@freebsd.org, freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Date: Wed, 9 Mar 2005 13:24:35 -0600 User-Agent: KMail/1.7.2 References: <200502161440.j1GEeLJa031301@freefall.freebsd.org> In-Reply-To: <200502161440.j1GEeLJa031301@freefall.freebsd.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; boundary="nextPart1551828.ILC4ddNh2E"; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; micalg=pgp-sha1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <200503091325.28016.jonathan@fosburgh.org> X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.1 Subject: Re: usb/77604: Sluggish Logitch LX700 USB Mouse X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 09 Mar 2005 19:25:52 -0000 --nextPart1551828.ILC4ddNh2E Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="Boundary-01=_+10LCFumADhsQ4T" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline --Boundary-01=_+10LCFumADhsQ4T Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Disposition: inline Attached is a patch to -CURRENT that fixes this problem. This is caused by a bug in /etc/devd.conf that I fixed a week ago in 5. Just change the line to refer to ukbd0 instead of bogusly refering to kbd1. The problem was caused by crappy examples in the manpage making me think you had to use the generic /dev/kbd# device not the specific /dev/ukdb# device with kbdcontrol. -- Brooks --=20 Any statement of the form "X is the one, true Y" is FALSE. My email address has changed to the btinternet account. Is there any way the bug report can be updated with my new email address? I'm having serious difficulty in checking whether this has been fixed or not. I've been trying to get up and running for two days now, with varying degrees of success. The intellimouse patch posted earlier is the only way I've been able to get it to work yet. I've tried the 6.0 'test' ISO dated 5th February, but it hangs at boot (looks like a scsi card problem). After installing a clean 5.3, and going throgh cvsup etc etc (using standard-supfile), but I seem to be getting lots of DMA timeouts - I've got a SATA hdd on a SiL3112A controller, but the drive checks out fine, which means I have been unable to complete a make buildworld/buildkernel/installkernel/installworld sequence without the system hanging and/or my /usr partition getting hosed. The closest I have come to successful completion is a system hang at the final mergemaster stage before rebooting. Even then, there were DMA timeouts during make installworld. I'll try again tomorrow, but I have one question re standard-supfile - the entry in it was for RELENG_5_3 - should that be RELENG_5? I can't confirm whether disabling the ums entry in /etc/usbd.conf lets me have the mouse plugged in and the keyboard working. At the very least, the attach trigger should be changed to attach 100 { device-name "ukbd[0-9]+"; action "kbdcontrol -k /dev/$device-name < /dev/console"; }; but actually there is no way devd can get it right in the general case, because there's no correct answer to what to do on detach. The correct solution would be to teach kbd to multiplex keyboards, like scmouse multiplexes mice. Successfully built/installed world and kernel. The original problem is still there - the mouse still doesn't work. Kernel level is 5.4-PRERELEASE #0 Tried applying the intellimouse.diff patch to the new source, it did make some changes but did not apply cleanly. The patched kernel would not compile. Incidentally, as for the keyboard, commenting out the ums section in usbd.conf does not work. The only way I can have my mouse and keyboard attached with the stock 5.3-Release kernel is to recompile the kernel without usb keyboard (ukbd) support. So it looks like the recently submitted changes to RELENG_5 at least (I cannot speak for 6.x) don't change things here. Do you want me to apply the diff again to the RELENG_5 kernel and post the terminal output and .rej files? It may have nothi= ng=20 to do with your problem, but I thought it worth a shot to suggest it. Soun= ds=20 like you are running RELENG_5. Try the hid.c.patch, that one was generated= =20 against 5. In the patch, the lines that (at least for me in konqueror and= =20 firefox) start with =3D2D are actually the - signs. Must be some kind of=20 encoding conflict between my mailer and how Gnats is handling it. --nextPart6136308.yIiZ8RaJuS Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQBCMMG+qUvQmqp7omYRAnGgAJ9A9MGHD7Pgc1SF6wf8TjMR5LnVjwCffVTi 0M27ia6Q4UxqVH2iPgSZVfU= =MY1X -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --nextPart6136308.yIiZ8RaJuS--
