You might want fetch the files in /sys/dev/sound/usb from FreeBSD-6-current, and then recompile the module/kernel and try again. Make sure you have got the right device lines in the kernel config, or that you have loaded the right modules. -- HPS From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Apr 10 18:19:09 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0D33016A4CE; Sun, 10 Apr 2005 18:19:09 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D107343D2F; Sun, 10 Apr 2005 18:19:08 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from iedowse@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (iedowse@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j3AIJ8Ex019865; Sun, 10 Apr 2005 18:19:08 GMT (envelope-from iedowse@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from iedowse@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id j3AIJ8nu019861; Sun, 10 Apr 2005 18:19:08 GMT (envelope-from iedowse) Date: Sun, 10 Apr 2005 18:19:08 GMT From: Ian Dowse Message-Id: <200504101819.j3AIJ8nu019861@freefall.freebsd.org> To: hselasky@c2i.net, iedowse@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: usb/79724: [patch] wrong SMASK/CMASK values in ehci.c X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 10 Apr 2005 18:19:09 -0000 Synopsis: [patch] wrong SMASK/CMASK values in ehci.c State-Changed-From-To: open->closed State-Changed-By: iedowse State-Changed-When: Sun Apr 10 18:15:19 GMT 2005 State-Changed-Why: The incorrect CMASK was already fixed in revision 1.33 of ehci.c. However, then the built in cdrom drive does play, stop and eject but there's no sound. =20 Disconnecting the HP and rebooting solves the problem. =20 I'm following the instructions in 16.5 of the FreeBSD handbook and have not done any kernel re-compilation so am I guess=20 using the GENERIC kernel. =20 Can anyone help with this error? Might this dvd drive not be supported? It does appear to be recognised but no mention in umass(4). Any help would be greatly appreciated as if I need to change the dvd drive as it's not supported, I need to do it pretty quickly. =20 Thanks Ged Moloney From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Apr 11 11:02:25 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 02CC616A4FE for ; Mon, 11 Apr 2005 11:02:25 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BD72843D4C for ; Mon, 11 Apr 2005 11:02:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (peter@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j3BB2Of6088365 for ; Mon, 11 Apr 2005 11:02:24 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id j3BB2Nwu088359 for freebsd-usb@freebsd.org; Mon, 11 Apr 2005 11:02:23 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Date: Mon, 11 Apr 2005 11:02:23 GMT Message-Id: <200504111102.j3BB2Nwu088359@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: peter set sender to owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org Subject: Current problem reports assigned to you X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 11 Apr 2005 11:02:25 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports Critical problems S Submitted Tracker Resp. I'm not really sure what's wrong. Plugging it in.. it appears to get detected. But it is unusable. I always get a 'device busy' after mounting it. Attached is a dmesg obtained after booting with the drive plugged in. Also of note... the "* was not properly dismounted" is due to the fact that FreeBSD gave up on the buffers when shutting down... because of the floppy. If I'm luck it gives up. Sometimes I get a kernel trap. This has been an ongoing problem since 5.2 (Presently running 5.4-STABLE as of a few days ago). Is anyone else seeing this problem? Should I file a PR? Its been going on for quite sometime. Any help is appreciated. If anymore information is needed please let me know. -- Regards, Eric FreeBSD fangorn.nxdomain.org 5.4-STABLE FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE #10: Wed Apr 6 00:21:02 CDT 2005 root@fangorn.nxdomain.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/CUSTOM i386 Copyright (c) 1992-2005 The FreeBSD Project. The chat script indicates that it cannot set speed to 0. Also, am I supposed to have the ppp.conf setup to host connections? I am very new to ppp and I am not sure. The howtos don't even begin to explain what is actually going on. They all just list simple configurations that seem to work for everyone but me. The tun0 device is used and given an ip address, however, I am not able to ping either address that is associated with the tun0 device interface. I am trying to get synce and multisync to work, however, I have discovered that RAPI is not initialized, meaning that the pda is never actually connected to the tun0 interface, hence never connected to synce-serial-start, and multisync instances. I was able to see ip address assignments when I started this email, and now that I have started the processes again, I am getting only a PID as shown below. Can someone please give me a clue as to what is going on? All the docs seem to assume that all is well, and people are using their PPcs with *nix, so what is wrong with my picture? Thanks for the assistance, in advance. I get the following, while connected, just after usbd has assigned the ucom0 device: >dmesg|grep ucom0 ucom0: Hewlett Packard product 0x1016, rev 1.00/0.00,addr 2 >ifconfig|grep tun tun0: flags=8051 mtu 1500 Opened by PID 3718 tun1: flags=8010 mtu 1500 tun2: flags=8010 mtu 1500 > sudo tail -f /var/log/ppp.log Apr 11 15:38:19 Mobil1 ppp[3554]: tun0: Phase: deflink: 8 packets in, 10 packets out Apr 11 15:38:19 Mobil1 ppp[3554]: tun0: Phase: total 15 bytes/sec, peak 24 bytes/sec on Mon Apr 11 15:38:07 2005 Apr 11 15:38:19 Mobil1 ppp[3554]: tun0: Phase: deflink: hangup -> opening Apr 11 15:38:19 Mobil1 ppp[3554]: tun0: Phase: deflink: Enter pause (3) for redialing. I need to have sound input from usb device under FreeBSD. I have no any other variants due to specific of my needs. Looking at sources I found something like #define NO_RECORDING, or similar (have no sources for now to check exactly what name of define is). Turning it off lead to failure of kernel build. Is there any workaround for this? Will 6.0-CURRENT help me? Patches I found for kernel (kern/75274) doesn't applies on 5.4-STABLE. Thanks. I'm not sure if it will solve the problem with the OHCI controller, as the ucom device is re-using a transfer from the completion callback, which is not generally safe, and the OHCI controller appears to handle this the worst. If it doesn't help, or just changes into a different panic, you could try applying the patch from http://people.freebsd.org/~iedowse/releng_5_xfer_reuse.diff in addition to the patch below. Since then I don't have a panic anymore, I still have to retry palm synchronization. Do you need me retrying to only patch ucom.c ? Thanks again for your USB work, Anthony. Thanks for trying it. Yes, if possible, could you test with just the ucom.c patch? I've committed the ucom.c patch to RELENG_5 now, so it would be good to get confirmation that the usbdi.c patch is necessary. I'm reluctant to commit the usbdi.c patch without a considerable amount of testing, as it is a significant though subtle change to the ordering of USB transfer completion, so it might break some configurations. Belkin F5U103. Needless to say it fails miserably. The symptom is that having attached a known-good modem and using a known-good ppp config, I can dial and connect and authenticate etc, but having negotiated a connection the whole thing siezes up. It seems that at some point below tun0, something decides not to pass data through, and so nothing happens until buffers fill up and the whole thing grinds to a halt. So far as I can tell from looking at the blinkenlights, not a bit gets sent to the USB->serial pod after negotiation ends. Eventualy I start getting putc to a clist with no reserved cblocks errors on the console. If I had to guess, I'd say there was a handshaking issue. I'm not sure how to get some data to make a worthwhile bug report down at that level, so if someone can suggest soemthing I'll try and be more helpful. At this point I feel that the best thing for everyone would be if FBSD stopped pretending to have USB support, because nothing ever seems to work! ^_^ (O O) \_/@@\ \\~~/ ~~ - RJC From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Apr 13 07:09:20 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 778DB16A4CE for ; Wed, 13 Apr 2005 07:09:20 +0000 (GMT) Received: from skipjack.no-such-agency.net (skipjack.no-such-agency.net [64.142.114.146]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1485143D48 for ; Wed, 13 Apr 2005 07:09:20 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from jpp@cloudview.com) Received: from skipjack.no-such-agency.net (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by skipjack.no-such-agency.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id A1CA134DA11 for ; Wed, 13 Apr 2005 00:09:19 -0700 (PDT) Received: from [192.168.2.120] (blackhole.no-such-agency.net [64.142.103.196]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by skipjack.no-such-agency.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6A72A34DA0F for ; Wed, 13 Apr 2005 00:09:19 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: <425CC59F.1070501@cloudview.com> Date: Wed, 13 Apr 2005 00:09:19 -0700 From: John Pettitt User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 (Windows/20041206) X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 Cc: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org References: <200504130704.j3D74q62090948@pele.r.caley.org.uk> In-Reply-To: <200504130704.j3D74q62090948@pele.r.caley.org.uk> X-Enigmail-Version: 0.90.1.1 X-Enigmail-Supports: pgp-inline, pgp-mime Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-AV-Checked: by skipjack Subject: Re: F5U103 USB->Serial X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 13 Apr 2005 07:09:20 -0000 Richard Caley wrote: > >Eventualy I start getting > > putc to a clist with no reserved cblocks > >errors on the console. > > > > I'm seeing the same error - it seems to be related to closing a port that still has data arriving from a remote device. After playing with BIOS settings, i am now able to: - Boot with ACPI enable (shutdown -p works as expected now); - Use USB devices. In order to do that, i had to totally disable "APIC Function" in the BIOS. With "APIC Function" enabled, neither version 1.4 nor 1.1 of the "MPS Table Version" settings solved my problem. So, although i meed to disable "APIC Function", all seems to works correctly together: ACPI support and USB support. As a side note, i did not encountered anymore the interrupt storm on the uhci USB host controller driver. Maybe can someone explain me what may be wrong with "APIC Function", and if there is some drawbacks to disable it (or what is the purpose of this setting)? -- -jpeg. APIC is used to route interrupts differently. You can also disable it from the loader with 'hint.apic.0.disabled=1'. I've looked at your dmesg's, and the problem is that in the ACPI case the IRQ 10 that your USB controllers are using is configured as an ISA IRQ (edge/high). For now you can either disable APIC or ACPI as a workaround until I figure out a better solution. -- John Baldwin <>< http://www.FreeBSD.org/~jhb/ "Power Users Use the Power to Serve" = http://www.FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Apr 15 06:40:18 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9368816A4CE for ; Fri, 15 Apr 2005 06:40:18 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6E2EE43D54 for ; Fri, 15 Apr 2005 06:40:18 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j3F6eILm060541 for ; Fri, 15 Apr 2005 06:40:18 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.3/8.13.1/Submit) id j3F6eI1x060540; Fri, 15 Apr 2005 06:40:18 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Fri, 15 Apr 2005 06:40:18 GMT Message-Id: <200504150640.j3F6eI1x060540@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org From: John Baldwin Subject: Re: usb/74989: (regression) Lost USB support between 5.2.1-RELEASE and 5.3-RELEASE on K7T266 Pro2. I effectively prefer turn APIC off via the loader configuration than from the BIOS settings, i think it is far more easily to remember what i have done from this place.
