Or a CDR or CDRW in an old-model CD drive. Older Alphas typically have CD drives that will either not read CDRW, sometimes read CDR depending on the media used. My 2100A is dead (no picture, no sound) right now, so I can't verify that any of the current releases will still boot. There was an issue with the bootloader writing to a disk that had VMS loaded. I disklabled the disk in another computer and then FreeBSD 4.11 wrote to the disk and booted afterward. I never could get any of the 5.x CD's to do anything. My 2100A died before 6.0 was released. I can boot previous releases (like 6.0-beta4) fine (though it crashes right away in the boot sequence). Oh well. I found someone who's interested in giving it a home, perhaps to use OpenVMS on it. -T -- When an ordinary man attains knowledge, he is a sage; when a sage attains understanding, he is an ordinary man. -
