Well, the library is a connections multiplexor, means can manage several sockets in a same thread. MPLX2 works rightly on FreeBSD 4.10, OpenBSD 3.9 and Linux 2.x, but on FreeBSD 7.0 MPLX2 gets a signal SIGBUS when it disconnects a client by timeout. the lastest source is here: http://nets.cl/public/sources/mplx2_12_2006.tar.gz The signal arrive after of "shutdown(sockfd, SHUT_RDWR); close(sockfd);" in mplx_del_socket() from MPLX2 source. Even it returns to mplx_poll_event() until recieved the SIGBUS. And not, "signal(SIGBUS, SIG_IGN)" not works. I hope that they can help me. I think this is related to the window scaling feature. fetch http://www.google.com/intl/en_com/images/logo_plain.png generates 5 packets for the HTTP GET request, and lots of DUP ACK packets. there is no Window Scale option in the SYN ACK reply. fetch http://www.freebsd.org/layout/images/logo-red.png generates only 1 packet for the HTTP GET request. Window Scale = 0 in the SYN ACK reply on i386 also RELENG_6 no such differences. setting net.inet.tcp.recvspace to a smaller value also gives normal results. I noticed this behavior because my Realtek 8168B got stuck on some websites, a Intel Pro/1000 did not. With both cards the tcpdumps are similar. (I notice the file is part of the i386 subdirectory) I have a laptop (runs FreeBSD / i386) which works ok with the internal drive, but refuses to boot from an external (usb) hard drive [1]. I wonder if this fix would help with this problem... 1) The problem is hard to debug, because as soon as I try too boot a FreeBSD partition off a usb hard drive, the screen starts scrolling what looks like register dumps (hard to tell, it rolls by too quickly) in an endless loop. However, I have no problems booting NetBSD or OpenBSD from other partitions on the same hard drive. -- Regards, Torfinn Ingolfsen, Norway From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Dec 6 21:42:38 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4FE4616A417; Wed, 6 Dec 2006 21:42:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from michiel@boland.org) Received: from neerbosch.nijmegen.internl.net (neerbosch.nijmegen.internl.net [217.149.193.38]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 555BF44473; Wed, 6 Dec 2006 21:13:26 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from michiel@boland.org) Received: from brakkenstein.nijmegen.internl.net by neerbosch.nijmegen.internl.net via brakkenstein.nijmegen.internl.net [217.149.193.41] with ESMTP id kB6LE807023791 (8.13.4/1.4); Wed, 6 Dec 2006 22:14:08 +0100 (MET) Received: from localhost by brakkenstein.nijmegen.internl.net via mboland@localhost with ESMTP id kB6LE8gk025476 (8.13.2/2.02); Wed, 6 Dec 2006 22:14:08 +0100 (MET) X-Authentication-Warning: brakkenstein.nijmegen.internl.net: mboland owned process doing -bs Date: Wed, 6 Dec 2006 22:14:08 +0100 (MET) From: Michiel Boland To: John Baldwin In-Reply-To: <200612061256.38046.jhb@freebsd.org> Message-ID: References: <20061126181325.O13925-100000@xs6.xs4all.nl> <200611291340.00524.jhb@freebsd.org> <200612061256.38046.jhb@freebsd.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed Cc: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: BTX halted trying to boot X4100 from disk X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 06 Dec 2006 21:42:38 -0000 John Baldwin wrote: [...] >> Another thought would be to just ignore them just like we ignore 'hlt' >> from vm86 mode: [...] > I managed to test this locally and have committed it and will get it into 6.2. Any hints on where (and perhaps how) I should report the problem with my laptop, in order for it useful enough so that anyone could help me debug it? I mean, there really isn't much detail to go on yet, and as long as the machine doesn't boot, I don' t know how get any more debug info out of it. I wouldn't wabt to file a PR with so this little content. If it's late Detailed description: 1) I turn on the laptop 2) I press "F12" (bios multibooot) 3) I select the usb HDD from the bios boot menu 4) the FreeBSD boot selector comes up, allowing me to choose F1, F2 or F5. F1 and F2 are FreeBSD partitions on which I have installed FreeBSD up to the reboot point. F5 is "drive 1". 5) I press "F1" (or "F2" doesn't make a difference) and the register dumps or whatever it is starts scrolling across the screen. At this point, the laptop doesn't react to any key press at all, the only thing that works is to use the power off button. (Normally, if the keyboard was alive I would have been able to fill the keyboard buffer until I got beeps) Another data point: if I press "F5" (drive 1), the laptop just prints "missing operating system", and then I can reboot it with Ctrl-Alt-Del. More info: the laptop doesn't have any problems booting from the internal drive, I have tried both FreeBSD 6 and 7 with the FreeBSD boot selector / loader. Currently it has WinXP, FreeBSD 6 and Xubuntu on the internal drive, using the NT / XP boot loader. Also, the laptop boots FreeBSD install CD's (i386) easily, this is how I have managed to install FreeBSD on those two partitions on the usb hard drive. Also, on another usb hard drive, i have installed NetBSD and OpenBSD, using the NetBSD boot loader. Both NetBSD and OpenBSd boots fine Final note: the laptop have a Intel Core Duo cpu, which means that I have only tried FreeBSD / i386 on it. -- Regards, Torfinn Ingolfsen From owner-freebsd-amd64@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Dec 7 21:24:12 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 452DB16A416 for ; Thu, 7 Dec 2006 21:24:12 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no) Received: from osl1smout1.broadpark.no (osl1smout1.broadpark.no [80.202.4.58]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 15BB143E7F for ; Thu, 7 Dec 2006 21:22:05 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no) Received: from osl1sminn1.broadpark.no ([80.202.4.59]) by osl1smout1.broadpark.no (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.1 HotFix 0.05 (built Oct 21 2004)) with ESMTP id <0J9X00EPUA1PW580@osl1smout1.broadpark.no> for freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org; Thu, 07 Dec 2006 22:22:47 +0100 (CET) Received: from kg-work.kg4.no ([80.203.66.169]) by osl1sminn1.broadpark.no (Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.1 HotFix 0.05 (built Oct 21 2004)) with SMTP id <0J9X00GN16FXOEXJ@osl1sminn1.broadpark.no> for freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org; Thu, 07 Dec 2006 21:04:46 +0100 (CET) Date: Thu, 07 Dec 2006 21:04:45 +0100 From: Torfinn Ingolfsen X-Face: "t9w2,-X@O^I`jVW\sonI3.,36KBLZE*AL[y9lL[PyFD*r_S:dIL9c[8Y>V42R0"!"yb_zN,f#%.[PYYNq; m"_0v; ~rUM2Yy!zmkh)3&U|u!=T(zyv,MHJv"nDH>OJ`t(@mil461d_B'Uo|'nMwlKe0Mv=kvV?Nh@>Hb<3s_z2jYgZhPb@?Wi^x1a~Hplz1.zH In-reply-to: <790a9fff0612062248u59e3b49cqc9be8c980a982a16@mail.gmail.com> To: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org Message-id: <20061207210445.e4af209b.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> MIME-version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Sylpheed version 2.2.10 (GTK+ 2.10.6; i386-portbld-freebsd6.2) Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT References: <20061126181325.O13925-100000@xs6.xs4all.nl> <200611291340.00524.jhb@freebsd.org> <200612061256.38046.jhb@freebsd.org> <20061206210211.eae66419.torfinn.ingolfsen@broadpark.no> <790a9fff0612062248u59e3b49cqc9be8c980a982a16@mail.gmail.com> Subject: Re: BTX halted trying to boot X4100 from disk X-BeenThere: freebsd-amd64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the AMD64 platform List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 07 Dec 2006 21:24:12 -0000 On Thu, 07 Dec 2006 00:48:05 -0600 Scot Hetzel wrote: > Try using the above work arround, and see if it will allow you to boot > off of the usb drive.
