I tryed to install FreeBSD 6.0, 6.1 and snapshot-stable-6.1-june2006 but always worse. With FreeBSD 6.0 I installed FreeBSD 6.0 from a CD-R writer SCSI. But with 6.1 and 6.1 latest stable nothing. I get I/O error. I tryed also to install FreeBSD 5.5 and later to upgrade with the CVSup the source and install the kernel 6.1, but after I did this the access to the DVD writer and to the CD-R writer SCSI gets I/O error. This can be achieved by following command: sysctl kern.securelevel=-1 Then you may change your ipfilter configuration and set your securelevel to previous value: sysctl kern.securelevel=2 For more information on securelevel options refer to init (8) manual page. -- AIM-UANIC +-----[ FreeBSD ]-----+ Alexander Mogilny | The Power to Serve! | <> sg@portaone.com +---------------------+ From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jul 10 11:03:18 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 93E0F16A583 for ; Mon, 10 Jul 2006 11:03:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5469443D62 for ; Mon, 10 Jul 2006 11:03:03 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (peter@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id k6AB32SI055631 for ; Mon, 10 Jul 2006 11:03:03 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id k6AB31Nq055627 for freebsd-i386@freebsd.org; Mon, 10 Jul 2006 11:03:01 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2006 11:03:01 GMT Message-Id: <200607101103.k6AB31Nq055627@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: peter set sender to owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Current problem reports assigned to you X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2006 11:03:18 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports Critical problems S Submitted Tracker Resp. So it is impossible to decrease it after setting it to 2. The only way to do this is to change FreeBSD sources, this is an evil hack but still possible. :) To my opinion setting securelevel value to 2 means that this machine should be forgotten forever, untouchable and perform some core functionality. Such machines should be some kind of routers which are never rebooted and always online. My point here is that you should deeply analyze the structure of your network and create more structured server functionality so that you perform ipfilter configuration changes on some other machine with normal security level, of if this is improper for you perform some local sources modifications and implement patches making this sysctl values available for changing. -- AIM-UANIC +-----[ FreeBSD ]-----+ Alexander Mogilny | The Power to Serve! | <> sg@portaone.com +---------------------+ From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jul 10 13:44:35 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DE36F16A4DE for ; Mon, 10 Jul 2006 13:44:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from andrej@antiszoc.hu) Received: from andrej.mine.nu (catv-d5debe68.catv.broadband.hu [213.222.190.104]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 70A8B43D46 for ; Mon, 10 Jul 2006 13:44:34 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from andrej@antiszoc.hu) Message-ID: <44B259FE.5060008@antiszoc.hu> Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2006 15:45:34 +0200 From: Andras Got User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060404 SeaMonkey/1.0.1 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org References: <20060709183758.55907.qmail@web42208.mail.yahoo.com> <7403d2a30607100022s433489d1pce3260c383a73a5f@mail.gmail.com> <7403d2a30607100624h9d33c5bsfe647d08cc4b6f99@mail.gmail.com> In-Reply-To: <7403d2a30607100624h9d33c5bsfe647d08cc4b6f99@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-2; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: Subject: Re: kernel secure level?? This would kill the base funcotionality of it. (Why would make any sense to turn it on, if anyone with root privs can turn it off...). Securelevel two is good for production servers, level 3 are better for routers. On prod machine usually there is no need to change anything, that would be affected by securelevel. From: Bob Vaughan To: bug-followup@freebsd.org Cc: chrismor@microsoft.com, techie@tantivy.tantivy.net Subject: Re: kern/98486: Re: kern/87026: [hang] Bootup hang on atkbdc on Compaq 1850R between 6.0-CURRENT-SNAP004 and 6.0-BETA5 Date: Sat, 15 Jul 2006 03:14:56 -0700 (PDT) I also have a 1850R, and see the same problem. Further testing reveals that the problem is USB related, as a GENERIC kernel built from 6.1-stable sources of 20060711 hangs, but a kernel built from the same config, with USB removed, boots properly. The problem can be reproduced with the non-USB kernel by loading usb.ko at boot time. loading usb.ko after the system is booted does not appear to cause any problems, but since there is no built-in USB on these systems, it dosen't do much. RAM parity error, likely hardware failure. Fatal trap 19: non-maskable interrupt trap while in kernel mode. instruction pointer = 0x20:0xc0528586 stack pointer = 0x28:0xc10209c4 code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b = DPL0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1 processor eflags = interupt enabled, IOPL = 0 current process = 0 (swapper) trap number = 19 panic : non-maskable interrupt trap This is due to the fact that the controler and/or the PCI bus doesn't react quickly enough to the first OWRITE function (see code below, from sys/dev/firewire/fwohci.c). 312 OWRITE(sc, FWOHCI_INTSTATCLR, OHCI_INT_REG_FAIL); 313 fun = PHYDEV_RDCMD | (addr << PHYDEV_REGADDR); 314 OWRITE(sc, OHCI_PHYACCESS, fun); 315 for ( i = 0 ; i < MAX_RETRY ; i ++ ){ 316 fun = OREAD(sc, OHCI_PHYACCESS); 317 if ((fun & PHYDEV_RDCMD) == 0 && (fun & PHYDEV_RDDONE) != 0) 318 break; 319 DELAY(100); 320 } When performing the second OWRITE, an uninitialized value makes its way to eax, and at the instruction: : mov 0xec(%eax),%eax it fails. The debugger told me eax = 0xffffffff. A read error on the PCI bus is wrongly interpreted as an ISA NMI error, and the kernel crashes. The problem seems to only happens when trying to read the speed, thus pointing at slow update on the PCI bus at init time. >How-To-Repeat: Insert any freebsd install CD into the drive at boot time. Wait. Enjoy :P >Fix: Fixing the problem is fairly simple : Just give more time to the bus or the controler to configure the right port. This is done by altering the code, as below OWRITE(sc, FWOHCI_INTSTATCLR, OHCI_INT_REG_FAIL); if (addr == FW_PHY_SPD_REG) DELAY(500); fun = PHYDEV_RDCMD | (addr << PHYDEV_REGADDR); OWRITE(sc, OHCI_PHYACCESS, fun); for ( i = 0 ; i < MAX_RETRY ; i ++ ){ fun = OREAD(sc, OHCI_PHYACCESS); if ((fun & PHYDEV_RDCMD) == 0 && (fun & PHYDEV_RDDONE) != 0) break; } which, given as a diff on sys/dev/firewire/fwohci.c is: 313a314,315 > if (addr == FW_PHY_SPD_REG) > DELAY(500); It has been tested on several machines and works fine. Of course, it could be more elegant to write specific code for when trying to determine the speed instead of adding a if in a function that doesn't use it most of the time. I prefer to let the maintainer of this file decide what is best. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted:
