I had the same problem in FreeBSD 5.5 Release, 6.1 Release. Now on 6.2 Prelease too. But when i want to erase small eg. 185 cdrw it work's fine, except it never ends. I have <LITE-ON LTR-16102B/OS0E> at ata1-master UDMA33.
