I tried to play and to record sound sources with converting between 16-bit and 24-bit each other, endian, volume and sampling rate on my USB device. It worked without a big problem. But sampling rate converter may be able to convert sampling rate for 16-bit sound stream only, so 24-bit sound stream is always down-converted to 16-bit when its sampling rate is converted. Because it is more than enough for 24-bit sound devices, a sampling rate converter for 24-bit sound stream is necessary. It is my understanding that this should be possible given the recent advances in support for ICH7. I have tried unsuccessfully with FreeBSD 6_0, various 6 stable builds, and most recently with 6.1-PRERELEASE. In most cases, I just use the kernel modules, putting 'snd_ich_load="YES" ' into "/boot/loader.conf". Kldstat indicates both "snd_ich" and "sound" loaded successfully, but no driver attaches to the device according to "pciconf -vl": none0@pci0:27:0: class=0x040300 card=0x07078086 chip=0x27d88086 rev=0x01 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio' class = multimedia I have succeeded in attaching the driver by manually manipulating the chip numbers in files like such as "/usr/src/sys/dev/sound/pci/ich.c", and then recompiling the kernel. This was ultimately unsuccessful, as "cat /dev/sndstat" still showed nothing. I have also tried some of the new patches from http://people.freebsd.org/~ariff/, but none of these even get the a driver to attach to the sound device. In no case was I successful in getting FreeBSD sound from this relatively new motherboard. Any help would be much appreciated! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? For some reason, I keep recording the headphone output whenever I try to record with either krec (kde record application) or port audio/rawrec; or, even skype. You will notice below that all my input mixer levels are 0. The only input that seems to affect the recording of the headphone output is the rec input. However, that also affects the mic input so it's not a possibility. EVEN, the audio output is recored even if I remove the headphones plug from the soundboard. Therefore, this is indeed a software issue. Does anyone have any ideas? I have supplied some information below. I hope it is useful. Let me know if any other information is required. You record all sound you play (with lower volume). Your card has three mixers, and this seems to confuse you - one of them = is=20 AC97 mixer (you can change it with mixer(8)), the second one is EMU10K1=20 DSP-based (you can access it with emuctrl) and the third one is inside=20 24bit/192kHz "p16v" interface (hardwired in current driver). _Recording_ = output from AC97 is an input to DSP (usually in0). Sounds like an interrupt conflict (but it doesn't have to be one). Have a look at the output of "dmesg" and look out for the numbers behind "irq". If you find a device which has the same irq than the soundcard, try to disable this device and have a look if there's still such a high load. Since this port isn't available as a package anyway, there is not much *you* have to worry about. What we can do is add an OPTION for PVR card type (250, 350, 500), and then patch it accordingly. Since the patched binaries stay local (on the end-users machine itself, and not on any of the FreeBSD project machines), we don't have to worry about the redistribution part. Johns problem is more serious because of the license incompatibilities between his code and the code lent from v4l. I am using 6.0 - STABLE on my Laptop (Radeon Mobility 9000) with Xorg and Window maker. I have found some Linux forums using google and it seems that I need to add options for S-Video. I do not understand which section of xorg to put them under. Here is an example of what I am finding; Section "ServerLayout" # Option "Xinerama" "on" # Option "Clone" "on" Identifier "TVLayout" Screen 0 "Screentvd0" LeftOf "TV1" Screen 1 "TV1" 0 0 InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb" FontPath "unix/:7100" EndSection This is just some of the xorg.conf files that people are posting on the web. I am thinking that I need to add 'Screen' and 'Monitor' information to my xorg.conf to get S-Video working. I am not sure where to start. Below I have posted my xorg.conf Thanks, Caleb. #### Start of xorg.conf Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "X.org Configured" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb" ModulePath "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/" EndSection Section "Module" Load "extmod" Load "glx" Load "dri" Load "dbe" Load "record" Load "xtrap" Load "type1" Load "freetype" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/ums0" #Option "Device" "/dev/sysmouse" Option "Buttons" "5" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "Monitor" #DisplaySize 300 220 # mm Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "LGP" ModelName "657" EndSection Section "Device" ### Available Driver options are:- ### Values: : integer, : float, : "True"/"False", ### : "String", : " Hz/kHz/MHz" ### [arg]: arg optional #Option "NoAccel" # [] #Option "SWcursor" # [] #Option "Dac6Bit" # [] #Option "Dac8Bit" # [] #Option "BusType" # [] #Option "CPPIOMode" # [] #Option "CPusecTimeout" # #Option "AGPMode" # #Option "AGPFastWrite" # [] #Option "AGPSize" # #Option "GARTSize" # #Option "RingSize" # #Option "BufferSize" # #Option "EnableDepthMoves" # [] #Option "EnablePageFlip" # [] #Option "NoBackBuffer" # [] #Option "PanelOff" # [] #Option "DDCMode" # [] #Option "MonitorLayout" # [] #Option "IgnoreEDID" # [] #Option "UseFBDev" # [] #Option "VideoKey" # #Option "MergedFB" # [] #Option "CRT2HSync" # [] #Option "CRT2VRefresh" # [] #Option "CRT2Position" # [] #Option "MetaModes" # [] #Option "MergedDPI" # [] #Option "NoMergedXinerama" # [] #Option "MergedXineramaCRT2IsScreen0" # [] #Option "DisplayPriority" # [] #Option "PanelSize" # [] #Option "ForceMinDotClock" # #Option "RenderAccel" # [] #Option "SubPixelOrder" # [] #Option "ShowCache" # [] #Option "DynamicClocks" # [] Identifier "Card0" Driver "ati" VendorName "ATI Technologies Inc" BoardName "Radeon R250 Lf [Radeon Mobility 9000 M9]" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Card0" Monitor "Monitor0" SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" EndSubSection EndSection #### end of xorg.conf -- "If you are new to UNIX, you may be used to clicking something and seeing either an "OK" message, an error, nothing, or (all too often) a pretty blue screen with nifty high-tech letters explaining exactly where the system crashed" - Michael Lucas From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Feb 23 08:48:08 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: multimedia@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EFB9C16A420 for ;
