It boots to the Sysinstall portion, and I can not enter any thing. I have tried booting with an external USB keyboard, disabling the bluetooth with hint pcib.1.slotnumber=26 at the loader portion, and then loading the kernel but the same happens everytime. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. That part is fixed. Now here's some more problems... Now when I boot into FreeBSD I get errors about "Operation not permitted" during bootup when it's trying to mount /var /usr and /tmp. I had the same errors during the install after setting them up in Disk labeler (I only created two partitions on the external firewire HD under Mac OSX as Unix File System). It dumps me to the default shell (/usr/bin/sh), and thats it. I can grab an IP for my built in ethernet (pretty sweet!) but thats about all I can do, trying to grab a port tarball with portsnap leaves it hung at extracting. Is this all there is for FreeBSD on PPC? Or did I miss something horribly simple, and bork my install? Rickey On 8/5/06, Rickey Bartlett wrote: > > Still doesnt work... Ideas anyone? One thing I did notice when it boots is that it mentions that /dev/da0s5 has been mentioned more than once in fstab, and then it spews out operation not permitted. What you should do is to partition the target drive using a tool on OSX. Then, do the FreeBSD install. Manually select the partitions and assign directories to them. The easiest approach is to put / on a partition. The next step, setting up the system to boot, is slightly manual. See http://www.freebsd.org/~grehan/iso_install.txt Yes, this is far from perfect, or perhaps even usable, but that's why PPC is tier-2. later, Peter. Maybe I shouldnt try to do these things when I have been up for such a long time, especially when the error was so obvious. :) Ah well. Portsnap is happily extracting away right now, and I have a lot of work to do on that machine. But, the important thing is I finally have FreeBSD on my PowerBook, well kind of ;) Even if, for the moment it is more of a novelty than anything. Thanks for your help! Oops, real quick... Do you know the status of the Wireless driver? Does it have a Windows counterpart ? (I was hoping to use NDIS wrapper if all else failed... Either that or just put one of my other wireless cards in it...). Rickey On 8/7/06, Peter Grehan wrote: > > Hi Rickey, > > > Well, that didnt fix it. Either that or just put one of my other wireless cards in it...). The build-in wireless is a Broadcom chip which isn't supported. Does that model of pbook have a cardbus slot ? I didn't think so, but if it does it might be possible to try an Atheros card. later, Peter. So I'll just grab the wireless card out of my other FreeBSD laptop @ home and through it in and see how it does. Rickey On 8/7/06, Peter Grehan wrote: > > > Oops, real quick... There's no cardbus support in the generic kernel, and the modules aren't built. It would be interesting to see if cardbus worked out-of-the-box with a new kernel. later, Peter.
