Sadly X is less functional without a mouse. I think the problem is the null modem cable to a sparc20 console. Is there: - an easy way to say "ok, I think I've fixed the problem, can we start over" short of rebooting? - an easy way to know what might be wrong? Is there some way to see the interrupt rate so that I could know if unplugging the console cable fixes it? If the interrupt stops storming the ithread code will notice and stop throttling it. It only throttles the source to hz interrupts per second while the storm is active. > - an easy way to know what might be wrong? Is there some way to see > the interrupt rate so that I could know if unplugging the console cable > fixes it? vmstat -i will show you the interrupt counts. systat -vmstat can give a better since of the current rates. Probably there's a bug in a driver in that the device is signalling a condition the driver doesn't handle, so the interrupt is never handled from the device's perspective. -- John Baldwin <>< http://www.FreeBSD.org/~jhb/ "Power Users Use the Power to Serve" = http://www.FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jan 10 00:20:44 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-sparc64@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1FAF616A41F; Tue, 10 Jan 2006 00:20:44 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from linimon@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C688E43D45; Tue, 10 Jan 2006 00:20:43 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from linimon@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (linimon@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id k0A0KhUG049127; Tue, 10 Jan 2006 00:20:43 GMT (envelope-from linimon@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from linimon@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id k0A0Khw5049123; Tue, 10 Jan 2006 00:20:43 GMT (envelope-from linimon) Date: Tue, 10 Jan 2006 00:20:43 GMT From: Mark Linimon Message-Id: <200601100020.k0A0Khw5049123@freefall.freebsd.org> To: mdh_lists@yahoo.com, linimon@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: sparc64/90328: Keyboard "lock" key lights not working properly X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 10 Jan 2006 00:20:44 -0000 Synopsis: Keyboard "lock" key lights not working properly State-Changed-From-To: open->closed State-Changed-By: linimon State-Changed-When: Tue Jan 10 00:20:14 UTC 2006 State-Changed-Why: Duplicate of sparc64/90316. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=90328 From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jan 11 02:25:59 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BB04016A41F for ; Wed, 11 Jan 2006 02:25:59 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from nolazaal@beaulieu.faurecia.com) Received: from mailhost.mlv.faurecia.com (mailhost.mlv.faurecia.com [194.196.220.130]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4BBBF43D45 for ; Wed, 11 Jan 2006 02:25:58 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from nolazaal@beaulieu.faurecia.com) Received: from smtp-mlv-1.mlv.faurecia.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by smtp-mlv-1.dmz.mlv.faurecia (Faurecia mail gateway) with ESMTP id 0960916D4 for ; Wed, 11 Jan 2006 03:25:57 +0100 (CET) Received: from frfr1exc0001.fr.corp (unknown [10.63.255.30]) by smtp-mlv-1.mlv.faurecia.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id D785E16D2 for ; Wed, 11 Jan 2006 03:25:52 +0100 (CET) Received: from frbeaexc0002.bea.fr.corp ([10.59.2.29]) by frfr1exc0001.fr.corp with SMTP (Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service Version 5.5.2657.72) id CWM256N4; Wed, 11 Jan 2006 03:25:52 +0100 Received: by frbeaexc0002.bea.fr.corp with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2657.72) id ; Wed, 11 Jan 2006 03:25:52 +0100 Message-ID: From: nolazaal@beaulieu.faurecia.com To: freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.org Date: Wed, 11 Jan 2006 03:25:51 +0100 MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2657.72) Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Cc: Subject: information X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 11 Jan 2006 02:25:59 -0000 Hi , I have a Sun Blade 2000 Workstation with UltraSparc IIIi processor , and I want to know if I can get" freebsd-sparc" to install in my Sun Blade ?? I'm not sure whether it'll work if you copy /stand/sysinstall to /sbin/init in the NFS-root. What should work for doing a netbooted install however is either extract the El Torito boot image from the ISO image and netboot the former or netboot your existing setup, label the hard disk using sunlabel(8), write the miniroot.ufs from the FTP install bits to the swap-partition of the hard disk using dd(1) and then boot the machine from the swap-partition. Both the LED issue and the fact that loading keyboard maps doesn't work on sparc64 basically are the same problem - endian bugs in the keyboard IOCTLs. Fixing them however currently is low priority for me as it would open can of worms as it also means fixing the Xorg-server to actually send the right LED codes for Sun RS232 keyboards, importing keyboard maps for Sun RS232 keyboards and getting rid of the assumption that every keyboard is PS/2 compatible in kbdmux(4)... > I've actually > got a type6 kb and remembering which keys do what is a real pain. And non-US keyboard layouts are a PITA for most programming and scripting languages, who does need stuff like accent-signs, currency-symbols and umlauts anyway? :) Marius -- This mail was scanned by AntiVir Milter. I was able to get the installer to boot by replacing init with sysinstall (guess I could probably have set init_path in the loader too), and it got to the point of newfs'ing, but failed trying to get the network configured. It first complained it couldn't write to /etc/resolv.conf; when I made the NFS root writable, it said "unable to configure the hme0 interface!". From looking at the sysinstall source, this appears to be because ifconfig failed, but I can't see the ifconfig output and don't know what broke. The emergency holographic shell doesn't work, and I couldn't find another way to get a shell when booted this way. So, next I tried to install directly from the NFS root as a "local" filesystem. This time it complained it couldn't create /etc/fstab... on to the next option. > What should work for doing a netbooted install however is either > extract the El Torito boot image from the ISO image and netboot the > former or netboot your existing setup, label the hard disk using > sunlabel(8), write the miniroot.ufs from the FTP install bits to the > swap-partition of the hard disk using dd(1) and then boot the > machine from the swap-partition. I labeled the disk as I plan to have it installed, and dd'ed miniroot.ufs onto /dev/da0b. I needed to use sunlabel -B /dev/da0b to get a boot block on that partition. It booted, and I tried a NFS install, but it panicked: 37168128 bytes read from base dist, chunk 27 of 41 @ 1238.9 KBytes/sec. anic: trap: fast instruction access mmu miss I tried again with a FTP install, and it worked perfectly. Thank you Marius, in fact my graphic card is a raptor fx one. I have tried to use the serial console but i can not connect it. And the source box is another 220R box with solaris 8 and work fine because I use it to connect to other server via serial console. For example I dont have problems to connect to a netra and sunfire boxs consoles When I try to connect to this 220R nothing happens. So, I beleave that 220Rīs console dont work. but i dont know how to test it in OBP. Can somebody tell me how to tets it? and solve this problem?
