I recently hooked up a Mitsumi 7-in-1 USB Card Reader/Floppy drive to my computer and ever since then, I cannot boot FreeBSD. I have an ASUS P5ND2-SLI motherboard (nForce 4), and the card reader is hooked up to the internal USB on the motherboard itself. Also, my machine has a dual core processor, therefore SMP is enabled in my kernel. When I try booting (from hard drive or install disc), I get the following error: "panic: ohci_add_done: addr 0x000d1c40 not found cpuid=0" After that error, all I can do is reboot. Also, of importance to note, if I disconnect the card reader, I can boot fine. I am not subscribed to this mailing list, so please CC all replies to my address. Thanks. It worked perfectly. I just have a few questions. 1) Any idea when this will be imported in to RELENG_6? 2) I have to do this everytime I update my sources, correct? 3) This is relatively stable, correct? (I did test it out a bit, but of course not thorougly enough to see how stable it is) Thanks again. That is because the "umass" device driver is still under the USB emulation layer of the old USB API, which is depreciated, and will be removed once I have completed the conversion of all USB device drivers. This will most likely happen before the end of this month. Then I need some help testing all the rewritten USB device drivers. --HPS From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Sep 5 16:55:35 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 00C4716A5D2 for ; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 16:55:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ca+envelope@esmtp.org) Received: from zardoc.esmtp.org (adsl-63-195-85-27.dsl.snfc21.pacbell.net [63.195.85.27]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DBD5B43D82 for ; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 16:55:25 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ca+envelope@esmtp.org) Received: from zardoc.esmtp.org (localhost. That is because the "umass" device driver is still under the USB emulation layer of the old USB API, which is depreciated, and will be removed once I have completed the conversion of all USB device drivers. This will most likely happen before the end of this month. Then I need some help testing all the rewritten USB device drivers. --HPS _______________________________________________ freebsd-stable@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-stable To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-stable-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Sep 5 18:40:15 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7DC2416A4DF; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 18:40:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from indigo23@gmail.com) Received: from dia-dfc.diadenver.net (dia-dfc.diadenver.net [198.202.200.135]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4888743DAB; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 18:39:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from indigo23@gmail.com) Received: from mail.diadenver.net (mail.diadenver.net [10.193.143.25]) by dia-dfc.diadenver.net with ESMTP id k85Ib4hZ028794; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 12:39:18 -0600 (MDT) Received: from mail pickup service by mail.diadenver.net with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 12:10:08 -0600 Received: from mail pickup service by mail.diadenver.net with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 11:43:56 -0600 Received: from mail pickup service by diamail01.dia.dnvr with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 10:03:23 -0600 Received: from dia-dfc.diadenver.net ([10.223.32.126]) by mail.diadenver.net with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.1830); Tue, 5 Sep 2006 08:42:15 -0600 Received: from mx2.freebsd.org (mx2.freebsd.org [216.136.204.119]) by dia-dfc.diadenver.net with ESMTP id k85BfrdC005847 for ; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 05:41:53 -0600 (MDT) Received: from hub.freebsd.org (hub.freebsd.org [216.136.204.18]) by mx2.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B95ED5969F; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 11:28:22 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-stable@freebsd.org) Received: from hub.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2AB8016A509; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 11:28:22 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-stable@freebsd.org) X-Original-To: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6535816A4E2 for ; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 11:28:18 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from indigo23@gmail.com) Received: from py-out-1112.google.com (py-out-1112.google.com [64.233.166.179]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7A8B643D4C for ; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 11:28:17 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from indigo23@gmail.com) Received: by py-out-1112.google.com with SMTP id c39so2794352pyd for ; Tue, 05 Sep 2006 04:28:16 -0700 (PDT) DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=beta; d=gmail.com; h=received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:cc:in-reply-to:mime-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:content-disposition:references; b=rfRP2F3KiHBccrW4YAtOejTGyPq/GEhpu0xCZWEAQQUT+BqgqYB1F6u+j/MbYnnScmHe9TbIZZ08YLdAq6RU43IRhmM91Wg+1GWFPDekXGWmihYeJcUtvjpYMmBIwr2JDVF2C+9KvAH1ju/+ImEjenCF/FDl/NH8+egadBqzvaE= Received: by 10.35.14.1 with SMTP id r1mr9846648pyi; Tue, 05 Sep 2006 04:28:16 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.35.89.7 with HTTP; Tue, 5 Sep 2006 04:28:16 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: <6f50eac40609050428k490cc96bu88646d6b5340ad7c@mail.gmail.com> Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2006 07:28:16 -0400 From: "Indigo 23" To: "Hans Petter Selasky" In-Reply-To: <200609050922.10673.hselasky@c2i.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline References: <6f50eac40608051611n7744a00cy79eeae6d8f83cc92@mail.gmail.com> <6f50eac40609041816p6682252eg827ffd374994dc0d@mail.gmail.com> <200609050922.10673.hselasky@c2i.net> X-BeenThere: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Sender: owner-freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Errors-To: owner-freebsd-stable@freebsd.org X-OriginalArrivalTime: 05 Sep 2006 14:42:15.0724 (UTC) FILETIME=[7B17F6C0:01C6D0F9] Cc: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org, freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Problems with Mitsumi 7-in-1 USB Card Reader/Floppy combo X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 05 Sep 2006 18:40:15 -0000 Thanks for that excellent suggestion. Samsung ML-1710, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 2, iclass 7/1 ulpt0: using bi-directional mode >Description: cups 1.2 started to use select(2) to check for "backchannel" data. Since the ulpt driver does not have a poll function, and therefore select(2) will return with an read-event immediately. But since some printers just doesn't return any backchannel data the subsequent read(2) syscall will just block forever. This effectively prevents printing with default settings to these printers. I will therefore suggest having some minimal nonblocking I/O with a select(2) syscall that works for reading data from the printer. >How-To-Repeat: This can be repeated with printers that does not give any data back on the receive pipe. Bulk reads initiated by read(2) syscalls blocks forever. You can see this with 'cat /dev/ulpt0'. It'll just hang. But the most serious issue is that cups tries to read from these printers effectively blocking the print job in a read(2) syscall. >Fix: I can see mainly two ways to solve this issue, either: * time out the bulk reads and return EIO or similar if the printer does not respond. * or, implement event driven and/or nonblocking I/O. I have created a patch that at least currently applies to 6.1-STABLE that implements minimal event driven I/O for reading and nonblocking reads: http://www.radiotube.org/ulpt_poll.diff >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Sep 9 17:50:26 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-usb@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6BE8F16A403 for ; Sat, 9 Sep 2006 17:50:26 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E72BB43D5D for ; Sat, 9 Sep 2006 17:50:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id k89HoOMT023037 for ; Sat, 9 Sep 2006 17:50:24 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id k89HoOH3023036; Sat, 9 Sep 2006 17:50:24 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Sat, 9 Sep 2006 17:50:24 GMT Message-Id: <200609091750.k89HoOH3023036@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org From: Jan-Espen Pettersen Cc: Subject: Re: usb/103046: [patch] ulpt event driven I/O with select(2) and nonblock X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: Jan-Espen Pettersen List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 09 Sep 2006 17:50:26 -0000 The following reply was made to PR usb/103046; it has been noted by GNATS. The url will still be http://www.radiotube.org/ulpt_poll.diff Fixes were: * Forgot to start transfer (in other words forgot to call usbd_transfer) for the background read. * Panic in read callback at pipe abort. What I am interested to know about is how this works with printers that actually do return any backchannel data, since my dumb laser printer does= not return data at all. USB 2.0 IDE Bridge, rev 2.00/0.03, addr 2 da0 at umass-sim0 bus 0 target 0 lun 0 da0: Fixed Direct Access SCSI-2 device da0: 40.000MB/s transfers da0: 38154MB (78140160 512 byte sectors: 255H 63S/T 4864C) The device hangs on the SCSI SYNCHRONIZE_CACHE command, though I'm not sure if it is the VIA bridge or the hard drive inside. The underlying SCSI da(4) driver has a DA_Q_NO_SYNC_CACHE quirk to handle devices without working SYNC_CACHE, but I don't know how to get to the da softc from the umass driver to set the quirk flag. A quirk could be added to the scsi_da.c quirks table for the drive, but that would be a poor solution if the problem is really in the bridge. There is a interesting and related patch proposed in this email: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-current/2005-January/045779.html With the patch in that email, plus the attached umass patch to add a NO_SYNCHRONIZE_CACHE quirk, my USB enclosure works.
