Sorry for the late response, I was on vacation. So there's no need to add a quirk anymore. That's why I'd like to see= =20 the definitions appear in the usbdevs file. Many thanks, Christian. On Saturday, 07. If not, then I'm not sure adding a product/vendor id without using it is a common practice. No the driver ist not in the tree, yet. It's far from being complete. I'm=20 working on a driver which should help to communicate with Symbian OS9 devic= es=20 (e.g. the Sony/Ericsson M600i). This printer is marked as "works perfectly" in LinuxPrinting.org (yes, I know, BSD differs from Linux). Well, first, I tried the printer on a friend's box, running Linux. The printer worked fine (CUPS) with the correct setup (filters, driver). But, on my FreeBSD box, things didn't went very well. I saw a lot of users reporting the same problem that I'm having here: the USB port is always busy when the printer is attached. The printer is recognized by the system without any problem: ulpt0: Hewlett-Packard HP LaserJet 1022, rev 2.00/1.00, addr 2, iclass 7/1 ulpt0: using bi-directional mode A simple test, the same test that were found on previous messages about this problem: lptest > /dev/lpt0 /dev/lpt0: Device busy. Well, I even tried to use a proposed patch to ulpt.c (http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-usb/2005-July/001255.html), but no success. Any clues/hints? Many thanks, Thiago. Here is a summary of the USB problems I encounter on my brand new Dell E521 AMD64. To make FreeBSD boot, I have to: * disable the front USB panel, and one of the two rear USB panels in the BIOS otherwise the keyboard and mouse do not work * unplug the mouse during the boot, otherwise keyboard and mouse do not work. I plug it in again once entering user-land I also have a very annoying problem: when I run Xorg, the mouse freezes after about 5 minutes of mouse activity, I have to unplug it. As soon as I plug it in again, mouse moves freely. I tried with another mouse, same problem. Restarting Xorg does not help. Restarting moused either. Any idea to solve the USB mouse problem would be more than helpful. You will find attached the dmesg output, just in case. Some more observations: * I tried using the [2]USB patch, it slightly changes the error messages, retries to assign an address to the USB device a few times and gives up. * I was using FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE, and upgraded to 6.2-PRERELEASE (checked out from RELENG_6) but that didn't change anything. * I tried booting the Ubuntu Live CD, and it boots fine. However the mouse freezes in Xorg after a few minutes of mouse activity like in FreeBSD. Please find attached the dmesg output, thanks in advance for your help. -- Jean-Baptiste Quenot aka John Banana Qwerty http://caraldi.com/jbq/ [1] http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-hardware/2006-October/003942.html [2] http://people.freebsd.org/~iedowse/usb.diff --Pd0ReVV5GZGQvF3a Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="dmesg.today" Copyright (c) 1992-2006 The FreeBSD Project. Hint: if you don't get it to work with ulpt, perhaps you can get it to work with HPLIP (http://www.freshports.org/print/hplip/)? Your printer is on the supported list. Under FreeBSD, HPLIP uses ugen instead of ulpt. (You'll have to use a kernel without ulpt and (if your prinyter have memoryc acdrs slots that uses umass) without umass). I'm using HPLIP with a HP PhotoSmart 8250, and it was quite easy to set up, and it works nicely. (Note: HP-SETUP didn't work for me, I had to use the CUPS web interface to set up the printer) Yes, it is inconvenient that I'll have to load umass manually when I want to use a memory stick or suchlike, but I can live with that.
