However, it does not work.... It complains "The Eclipse executable launcher was unable to locate its companion shared library" when it starts, something still missing? I've been playing with Ken's eclipse-europa-dan port for the last couple of days and haven't had a lot of joy so far... it might just be my environments, but here are the notes from the two hosts I've tested with: - Ant seems to be unable 'exec' under jdk1.6.0... a separate issue, but certainly the one I've burnt most of my time on! - After installing diablo-jdk-1.5.0.07.01_6 from ports, I'm getting ~ 70 errors in the build. This is where I'm at now, sifting through and seeing what's failing where. Clearly, nothing to contribute thus far, but certainly very interested to see if others have seen anything similar. As for Eclipse requiring 1.6, this is true... there are instructions in the build for compiling on platforms without support for 1.6 though. However, in my excitement, I did neglect to make the requisite changes. (Genius!) Will hopefully have some news on both these points shortly. Sincerest thanks, Mike. And I have no particular errors so far. I tried to compile it on Fedra Linux of which Java was 1.5.0 as a reference, and the compilation went without problem - it said that it ignores "Annotations" of course. Some I noticed and tentatively fixed with the patches except c). a) One basic question with Java 1.6.0, I had a lot of errors of @Override in plugins/*jdt* that I tentatively suppressed with patch-extra-diffs. The errors are seemingly because they annotate to override non exisiting methods in parents which by the specification yields compilation errors. Why does other environment not having this kind of problems? Something missing? b) launchertmp is expanded from launchersrc.zip which is bundled, hence there were not room to add freebsd stuff. It is seemingly intended to be generated from features/org.eclipse.equinox.executable/library/gtk, but I could not find any description in build.xmls. I added launchersrc.zip in files to override. c) eclipse_1017a.so is created in launchertmp/library/gtk and is expected to appear at plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.gtk.freebsd.x86*/eclipse_1017a.so at the end, but still it does not appear to where it needs to be. Need to dig in to build.xml and fix it!! Hope these help those who downloaded eclipse-europa-dan.tgz a bit. I didn't really look into it though, as my fresh jdk1.6 build finished about the same time; which was of significantly greater interest. I managed to build the port at it stands on a machine at the office and here at home, (6.2R and 6.1-RC1 respectively) both to the point of displaying the loader error Ken reported earlier. A quick google found me a few similar problems and copying the loader library from the build to the install seemed to progress things a little. I was about to post my findings when I received Ken's musings, which made mine rather insignificant! ;-) Responding to your last point Ken, so far I'd have to agree... I can't find more than two instances of compilelibs in build.xml; one defining the target, the other referencing it as a dependency of the "run" target. It doesn't seem to make much sense. I'll keep poking around with it over the weekend if I find some time. Cheers, Mike. Perhaps someone with a bit more Java knowledge can comment on the warnings generated and someone closer to the Eclipse release team might be able to resolve the confusion with build.xml. (Although I'm still asking around and digging.) It may just be that the file wasn't updated to reflect changes for the 3.3 release... the verbiage between the 3.2 and 3.3 versions is almost identical, except version numbering. All in all, I'd have to say congratulations to Ken and Dan for a successful port! I'll be running it on both my work machines and will report in if anything comes up... and will keep an eye on the list. Nice work chaps! Cheers, Mike.
