I then installed win2k Pro using: qemu-img create -f qcow2 /home4/win2k 15G (also tried raw) qemu /home4/win2k -cdrom /dev/acd0 -boot d -m 512 -smp 2 -localtime -win2k-hack qemu -hda /home4/win2k -cdrom /dev/acd0 -boot c -m 512 -smp 2 -localtime -net nic -net tap That worked, but I am absolutely not able to get acceleration working. A kldload of kqemu results in: bash-2.05b$ kqemu version 0x00010300 kqemu: KQEMU installed, max_locked_mem=2092860kB. showing up in my console window. However: 1) qemu says: kqemu: not compiled 2) I have never seen a /dev/kqemu 3) win2k is unusably slow 4) /var/db/ports/qemu/options: # This file is auto-generated by 'make config'. # No user-servicable parts inside! # Options for qemu-0.8.2s.20070111_1 _OPTIONS_READ=qemu-0.8.2s.20070111_1 WITH_KQEMU=true WITH_HACKS_CIRRUS=true WITHOUT_RTL8139_TIMER=true WITHOUT_SAMBA=true WITH_SDL=true WITH_CDROM_DMA=true 5) the -kernel-kqemu is rejected in qemu, is ignored(?) in qemu-system-x86_64 Now, every thing I have read indicates that [k]qemu works on 6.2 STABLE and amd64. So, I have to conclude that I am doing something wrong. However, I can not figure out what I have done wrong. The PREEMPTION issue seems to have been resolved in 6.1, and I need that for cdrecord, so removing that is not an attractive thing. Suggestions? Clues? :-) Thank you, Bruce -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "I like bad!" The most recent port version 0.8.2s.20070203 still has broken udp on 6.0-STABLE, I haven't yet tested on 6.2-STABLE. In fact, it was taken from FreeBSD's src/sys/netinet but it was well before the following commit: http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/mid.cgi?199808240747.AAA16217 Unfortunately there were too many changes between slirp code fork and this fix. On top of that, the author bastardized mbuf chain, so that we cannot merge this directly. Instead I found this: http://qemu-forum.ipi.fi/viewtopic.php?p=5646&sid=494a2df12b48a1e8fdca8ae0e7bfb752 and re-wrote most of the code: http://people.freebsd.org/~jkim/patch-qemu-pcap.diff The option to use is '-net nic -net pcap' and it should be able to pick up right network interface for you. If not, use '-net nic -net pcap, ifname=' instead. But of course, you need access to /dev/bpf*. Modify /etc/devfs.conf or /etc/devfs.rules to set permissions right for you. Downside is host and guest cannot talk directly because it uses bpf(4). And it seems slow for an unknown reason on my FreeBSD/amd64 -CURRENT host. :-( Let me know if anyone knows why. Well, the short answer is that with the Gentoo base, some of the proprietary applications we use will run, while under FC4, they'd either fail to load or have horrible OpenGL problems (like poor performance or bad displays). I installed the Gentoo base as a test and the programs instantly started working again. It may not be recommended for various reasons that I haven't really researched, but it does what we need. -- Kirk Strauser From owner-freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Feb 10 01:02:35 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7520A16A401 for ; Sat, 10 Feb 2007 01:02:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) Received: from anuket.mj.niksun.com (gwnew.niksun.com [65.115.46.162]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CA95E13C49D for ; Sat, 10 Feb 2007 01:02:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) Received: from niksun.com (anuket [10.70.0.5]) by anuket.mj.niksun.com (8.13.6/8.13.6) with ESMTP id l1A12XF0038988 for ; Fri, 9 Feb 2007 20:02:33 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) From: Jung-uk Kim To: freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.org Date: Fri, 9 Feb 2007 20:02:28 -0500 User-Agent: KMail/1.6.2 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <200702092002.31220.jkim@FreeBSD.org> X-Virus-Scanned: ClamAV 0.88.6/2545/Fri Feb 9 15:26:25 2007 on anuket.mj.niksun.com X-Virus-Status: Clean Cc: Subject: [PATCH] QEMU networking with bpf/libpcap X-BeenThere: freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Development of Emulators of other operating systems List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 10 Feb 2007 01:02:35 -0000 I have hacked bpf(4) to make connection between host and guest. The patch against -CURRENT is here: http://people.freebsd.org/~jkim/bpf_feedback.diff Basically, injected packet is fed back as if it is incoming packet from the interface. To use the hack, you need the following patch for QEMU: http://people.freebsd.org/~jkim/patch-qemu-pcap_feedback.diff The usage is exactly the same as before: http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/mid.cgi?200702061748.03125.jkim If you use network controller with checksum offloading feature, you have to turn it off to connect between host and guest, i.e., 'ifconfig -rxcsum -txcsum' before starting QEMU.
