Requirements are: 80Pin SCSI 320 Low Profile card Min. 1 Channel At least support for 6 SCSI disks At least 64mbit ram (128+ MB are preferred) PCI-X, PCI-E or PCI (64bit) 32 and 64bit OS support Cli tools for managing working on FreeBSD Raid 0,1,5 support Not EOL in 6 month Battery support would be nice too. Any ideas? In the past I was very happy with Adaptec 2100S but it's EOL. I don't like the new Adaptec 2120 and 2130 cards. Mainly because it's not possible to create a raid1 or raid5 later from a non raid system. On a 2100S you could later setup raid1 from a production one disk system by simple adding a second disk, enabling raid1 in the bios and set "copy from disc0 to disc1" without loosing any data. It looks 2120 and 2130 are acting more like 3ware IDE raid controller. The always need to initialize the disks first for creating an array and during this task all data are deleted on every disk in this array. We are using Poptop as PPTP and PPPoE server to Internet for our clients. C= urrently, there are about 3000 tunnels in sum at the moment. Seven server under FreeBSD (from 6.1-PRERELEASE to 7.0-CURRENT, i386 and amd64) used for poptop, ng_netflow for traffic accounting, dummynet for shaping and ipfw, of cause, for firewalling. Hardware are simple enough - Intel P4 3,0-3,2GHz; 2Gb RAM; Intel Gbit NIC on-board. So, some questions now: 1. How do correctly shape traffic - dummynet emulate propagation, not only rate-limit or, like Cisco, "clear" traffic shape. 2. Does anybody use mpd for hardly-loaded servers? 7.0-CURRENT, for example, died in kernel trap after creating node "ng1970". Poptop also, sometimes, invoke system kernel trap, especially with PPPoE configuration, but more often system deafly freeze until reset. =3D( I hope, it's not a just-another-silly-questions-about-RTFM ;-) --=20 =D1 =F3=E2=E0=E6=E5=ED=E8=E5=EC,=20 =DE=F1=F3=EF=EE=E2 =C4=E5=ED=E8=F1, =F1=E8=F1=F2=E5=EC=ED=FB=E9 =E0=E4=EC=E8=ED=E8=F1=F2=F0=E0=F2=EE=F0 Ozerki.= Net mailto:dyr@homelink.ru
