Adding jsse.jar didn't help but your suggestion gave me a useful hint.
I check the JRE configuration and found out that jce.jar is not
included. Adding it solved the problem.

Hi all,

More than a month ago, JDK ports related to Java 1.1 and 1.2 were marked
DEPRECATED and scheduled for removal. This period has come to an end,
and it is now time that we remove the support for these ports in
bsd.java.mk before we delete the JDK ports themselves.

However, some ports are defining JAVA_VERSION as 1.1 or 1.2 and they
should be fixed before we move on.

If you are receiving this message, it is either because you are
subscribed to the freebsd-java mailing list or because you are the
maintainer of at least one of the forecited ports.

In both cases, you may want to have a look at the following PR:
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=ports/116724

The PR will stay open for 2 weeks while you may all send PRs to fix the
ports or review the bsd.java.mk patch in case I did something wrong.

Although the patch contains changes for the ports using Java 1.1 or 1.2,
I did not test them all. I just replaced "1.1+" and "1.2+" by "1.3+".

In two weeks, we will start testing the patch on the cluster.

Herve

I just noticed that java/jdk11 is scheduled for removal, so sorry for
the late comment.

I would like to add one use case for this port: compiling code that
will run on the version of Java shipped with every vanilla Microsoft OS
since Windows 98 (aka. "the Microsoft Virtual Machine"). Its been a
number of years (2003) since I needed this (getting an Java SSH applet
that will work in any cybercafe on the planet). but java/jdk11 was
really the only environment where I had a chance of producing code that
seemed to work reliably.

Maybe I never will need to do this kind of work again, but I just wanted
to mention how this port could potentially be useful outside of internal
FreeBSD ports dependencies.

Using java/diablo-jdk15 to build java/jdk16 works fine.
But I'd like to try using java/linux-sun-jdk16 to build java/jdk16.

I have already removed javavmwrapper, jdk16, and diablo-jdk15.
After linux-sun-jdk16 installed, 'portupgrade -m "-DWITH_LINUX_BOOTSTRAP" -N /usr/ports/java/jdk16'.

Unless someone else comes forward saying they are using jdk11 today, I
don't see a statement of "this was useful for me 4 years ago" as being a
reason to keep an ancient version of Java around today :).

Even if someone did, I'd point out that the only way to use jdk11 is via
the compat3x port, which has been marked FORBIDDEN for a long time and
has an unknown number of security holes.

Basically, I think the removal of these ports will be going ahead unless
someone comes up with a Really Good [TM] reason not to. They're basically
just a maintenance burden at the moment.

That being said, we're not removing the distribution files for jdk11, so
if someone desperately needs to use an 8 year old JDK they can still
download the binary, install compat3x and run it (assuming it does).

Similarly for jdk12 the patchsets are still downloadable and there are
manual compilation instructions included (if you can get one of the
bootstrap JDKs to actually run).

If someone needs it for this reason there's always the option of
doing what I do when I need to test compatibility with Windows 95,
install a virtual machine with the old version of FreeBSD on it to
test with.

PS: you never heard me say I install Windows 95 virtual machines, I
swear, it never happened..

I was not really arguing that FreeBSD shouldn't obsolete java/jdk[12],
especially the dependencies between ports. I was just trying to see if
other people might want the java/jdk11 port to generate/test code that
works on old jdk-1.1 systems (like the Microsoft VM, possibly some JME
environments).

Ouch. Yeah, it's reaching on my part: I just wanted to see if anyone
else had maybe put this to use.

Keeping the binary distribution kicking around would be more than enough
for my (admittedly remotely possible) future needs. And I totally.
understand wanting to remove administrative burden.

It's not so much about testing compatibility: it's about generating the
bytecode in the first place. The Sun jdk-1.1 compiler can produce some
"interesting" bytecode that will pass the Microsoft VM verifier, whereas
post-jdk-1.2 compilers producing classfiles that should be compatible
(via the appropiate compiler switches, and making sure only classes that
existed in jdk1.1 are referenced), are actually rejected. I never really
tracked down the nature of the deviations, mainly because trying to
figure out the behavior of the closed-source Microsoft VM seemed like a
losing proposition.

Seems the linux-sun-jdk15 and linux-sun-jdk16 ports have fallen into
disrepair. The files the port demands be downloaded seem no longer
available on the web.

JDK1.5 Update 12 is no longer available on Sun's website, the current update
is 13.

JDK1.6 Update 2 is no longer available on Sun's website, the current update
is 3.

Not sure if the changes in the update require any changes at all on port
side other than switching filenames to use. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

The following code:

import javax.swing.*;

public class Foo
{
        public static void main(String[] args)
        {
               JFrame frame=new JFrame();

              frame.setVisible(true);
        }
}

will open the JFrame then immediately closes it and exits (no error
messages are printed) for further details on attempted workaround see
thread in -questions or c.l.j.p (both from early Sept).

Well, it is an internal error in javac -- apparently, specific to i386-7:

Probably due to the gcc 4.2 problems on -current. It should go away when
the cluster picks up obrien@'s fix to turn of tree-vrp.

Most interesting... I'm getting problem reports from people, who try to bui=

ImageMagick on -current -- ImageMagick's self-tests report strange failures.

But building with a port-built gcc 4.2 on -stable works fine, so either the=

port did not have the -current's bug in it, or it is something in addition =

the compiler :(

Thanks!

I still see tzupdate available, but the download page for the source
releases looks to be currently pointing to the binary releases. Not sure
if we can do anything about that yet.

I think "fallen into disrepair" is perhaps overstating the situation.
These look to be very recent updates as Sun don't appear to have yet
completed the updates themselves (the bundled releases for Netbeans,
etc. are still using the older versions).

Thanks for this information. I'll take a look at updating them as soon as
I have a chance.

I don't yet see source code updates, so jdk15 and jdk16 (which is still on
update 1) will have to wait a bit longer.
