Dear Benzi,

I'm forwarding the e-mail below from Csaba Molnar. His compilation has
been made into a package which he has made available to all. It works! OOo is
quite a pain to install on FreeBSD and I've held off upgrading from 1.3 until I
found Csaba's contribution, but I'm away now. Hope it helps you.

Cheers,
Rob Hurle

Subject: openoffice 2.1 package with KDE integration

Dear list!

I successfully built openoffice 2.1 with KDE integration - thanks for your
kind replies earlier about memory questions.

I put up the binary here - and you can reference others who need openoffice
with kde integration to this download:

ftp://hatvani.unideb.hu/pub/FreeBSD/openoffice/

It was built on 6.1 release, but works on 6.2.

Installation (for the record):

pkg_add openoffice.org-2.1.0.tbz will spit out a number of error messages.

Lines beginning with "pkg_add: could not find package <pkgname>" will indicate
missing dependencies, which should be resolved before installation. If you
have modular xorg installed, you can ignore warnings about missing
xorg-clients-6.9.0 and xorg-fonts-encodings-6.9.0

Once missing packages are installed, you can install it with:
pkg_add -f openoffice.org-2.1.0.tbz

There will be warnings like this:
pkg_add: warning: package 'openoffice.org-2.1.0' requires 'libXft-2.1.7_1'
but 'libXft-2.1.12' is installed
but these can be ignored.

This package was built with these knobs:

-DWITH_KDE WITH_TTF_BYTECODE_ENABLED=1 WITH_MMX=1 -DWITHOUT_MOZILLA
WITH_ICONS=KDE

I may try to build other language installs it there is a need for it - let me
know! (with a tip about how to change workdir, for I don't have enough space
on /usr).

Bye!

Hello,

Is there any available openoffice packages for FreeBSD 7-CURRENT to download?

I recently updated my box to -CURRENT, but i didn't want to build openoffice.

Thanks in advance

There may be. I have an amd64 and an i386 machine running 7.0 current,
but I haven't had time to build them and my uploading of the current
6.2 series for i386 and amd64 are lagging. Unless someone wants to
help upload ;)

Could you to produce OO2 builds that lack dependencies on things like Samba
and Gnome VFS? I'm trying to install on a new system and unlike the older
1.1.5 builds, the OO2 builds seem to drag in an army of other packages that
I'd rather not have. I know I can in theory build it myself, but it's a
daunting process.

Thanks for all your great work,
Jeff Katcher

Well, I built openoffice without gnome_vfs (and I think gnomevfs itself brings
in additional dependencies) and without cups (although I have a cups version
as well) - but since I'm a KDE user, I built it with KDE integration - so
that might be a no-no if you use something more minimal (I presume it is not
gnome since you don't need gnome VFS). It is available here:

I think the good folks at openoffice@freebsd try to accommodate a variety of
needs, but they cannot satisfy everyone's requests: if they built a kde
version, then they'll have to build all language versions as well, which will
double their efforts. And then, there will be people who need an oo.o version
with all WITHOUT_BLAH knobs switched on - which triples the work. Well, if
you want them to provide oo.o WITHOUT_WHATEVERYOUWANT that's still possible:
give them a new build cluster (a few dual core xeons would surely suffice) -
and I'm sure they will happily provide additional precompiled binaries of
oo.o :)
