Updating cairo to at least version 1.4.8_1 fixes this issue. But I still wonder why OOo aborted silently w/o core dumping or making some noise on stderr. Also gdb hasn't been very helpful for this issue. Please see ports/113720. It was Cairo/libX11 bug, not GCC 4.2's. FYI, XErrors were wrongly propagated to the upper layer, which eventually caused GTK+ front-end to crash: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/cairo/2007-June/010842.html https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11222 http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/mid.cgi?200706230010.l5N0AYKJ055836 http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/mid.cgi?200706220255.l5M2tH83097833 Probably oliver@ updated Cairo and libX11 at the same time. ;-) Jung-uk Kim From owner-freebsd-openoffice@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jun 28 21:17:50 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-openoffice@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-openoffice@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4146716A41F; Thu, 28 Jun 2007 21:17:50 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) Received: from anuket.mj.niksun.com (gwnew.niksun.com [65.115.46.162]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 043D513C447; Thu, 28 Jun 2007 21:17:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) Received: from niksun.com (anuket [10.70.0.5]) by anuket.mj.niksun.com (8.13.6/8.13.6) with ESMTP id l5SLHlgc087301; Thu, 28 Jun 2007 17:17:47 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) From: Jung-uk Kim To: freebsd-openoffice@FreeBSD.org Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2007 17:17:38 -0400 User-Agent: KMail/1.6.2 References: <20070628200412.F1A4945055@ptavv.es.net> <46841EAB.5010209@vwsoft.com> In-Reply-To: <46841EAB.5010209@vwsoft.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <200706281717.43900.jkim@FreeBSD.org> Cc: bug-followup@FreeBSD.org, Janos Mohacsi , Kevin Oberman Subject: Re: ports/113720: editors/openoffice.org-2.2.0 and 2.2.1 fail afterupgrade of xorg 7.2 X-BeenThere: freebsd-openoffice@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting OpenOffice to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2007 21:17:50 -0000 On Thursday 28 June 2007 04:48 pm, Volker wrote: > On 06/28/07 22:04, Kevin Oberman wrote: > >> From: Jung-uk Kim > >> Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2007 15:05:40 -0400 > >> > >> I tracked it down and confirmed it is not OpenOffice.org's bug. > >> Basically you it goes like this: OOo -> GTK+ -> Cairo -> > >> libX11. :-( Luckily these issues are fixed in the latest ports. > >> So, update your x11/libX11 and graphics/cairo and try again. > >> It should fix the issue. > > > > Wow! You also need the latest libX11, which includes this fix: http://docs.freebsd.org/cgi/mid.cgi?200706220255.l5M2tH83097833 Nate did not update port revision, though. > But I still wonder why OOo aborted silently w/o core dumping or > making some noise on stderr. Also gdb hasn't been very helpful for > this issue. It does not complain at all unless you turn on debugging option (WITH_DEBUG) when building it. gdb does not help much either unless it core dumps. Even if it does, it takes serious time to track down a real culprit for the crash. I believe that is a design decision, though. I mean, it was/is base of a commercial product (StarOffice) and they decided not to scare its users. :-( Jung-uk Kim From owner-freebsd-openoffice@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jun 28 21:29:11 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: openoffice@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-openoffice@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BD83516A400 for ; Thu, 28 Jun 2007 21:29:11 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from walter.gnadenberger@chello.at) Received: from viefep25-int.chello.at (viefep18-int.chello.at [213.46.255.22]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 13EF313C4AE for ; Thu, 28 Jun 2007 21:29:10 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from walter.gnadenberger@chello.at) Received: from viefep18 ([213.46.255.22]) by viefep11-int.chello.at (InterMail vM.7.08.02.02 201-2186-121-104-20070414) with ESMTP id <20070628211241.KSLE6436.viefep11-int.chello.at@viefep18> for ; Thu, 28 Jun 2007 23:12:41 +0200 Message-ID: <21293246.1183065161260.JavaMail.root@viefep18> Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2007 23:12:41 +0200 From: To: openoffice@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Sensitivity: Normal Cc: Subject: Problem building openoffice-2 via ports X-BeenThere: freebsd-openoffice@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting OpenOffice to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2007 21:29:11 -0000 Hallo!
