The first issue is initially (immediately after a boot) the graphics are corrupt, though upon restarting X the corruption vanishes. Here is a screenshot of the corruption http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/1073/desktopfo9.png Secondly, enabling AIGLX crashes the system. Upon a startx, the screen goes black for about 5-10 seconds, then the system reboots. I have attached xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log generated by Xorg on FreeBSD 6.2...again, the same behavior is seen on FreeBSD 7.0-BETA4. Here is pciconf's output drm0@pci1:0:0: class=0x030000 card=0x056e1014 chip=0x54601002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' device = 'Mobility Radeon X300' class = display subclass = VGA drm/radeon attaches and prints drm0: port 0x3000-0x30ff mem 0xc0000000-0xc7ffffff,0xa8100000-0xa810ffff irq 16 at device 0.0 on pci1 info: [drm] Initialized radeon 1.24.0 20060225 I have additionally attached my dmesg. I searched Google and lists and didn't find much. Has anybody else had these problems? Is there anymore information I can provide to help pinpoint the problem? Often, this is due to a better alternative having become available and/or the cessation of development on the existing port. In some cases, ports are marked for removal because they fail to build and install correctly from their sources, or otherwise fail in operation. The ports, and the reason and date that they have been scheduled for removal, are listed below. If no one has stepped forward before that time to propose a way to fix the problems (such as via a PR), the ports will be deleted. portname: x11-fonts/XFree86-4-font100dpi description: XFree86-4 There's a patch here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11870 As for the graphics corruption. This is a PCIe card, correct? I had nearly the exact same problem with 6.2 (though with my problem, restart X never fixed it), and it was fixed (for me) in -CURRENT sometime in the last year. I've had a similar problem with an AGP card when my AGP gart size was set higher in my xorg.conf file than it was in my BIOS. I've tried to switch over to xorg-7.3 (from ports) using a fresh install of FreeBSD 6.2 on a new partition. startx fails (see error info below). Could someone help? Thanks. Here is some info that I thought might be relevant: 1. Using Intel D945GCCR motherboard with on-board integrated graphics adapter. 2. Installed FreeBSD 6.2 w/o any packages (used FreeBSD-from-scratch stage_1.sh available in the "docs", with minor changes). 3. Installed Xorg (xorg-7.3_1) from ports. 4. Used a working xorg.conf from a previous FreeBSD 6.2, older Xorg (xorg-6.9.0), after changing the module path (to /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/). 5. startx does not work... (seee errors from Xorg.0.log below) 6. The error "(EE) GARTInit: Unable to open /dev/agpart... " is common to both xorg-6.9.0 as well as xorg-7.3_1. The VideoRam (7932KB) and PCI scan data detected is the same in both versions of xorg. 7. Older xorg (-6.9.0) has this in the log... After updating 6.1->7.0 with corresponding X and nvidia-driver updates, I started experiencing X freezes. I'll try to investigate it further, but maybe there are people with similar problem or even the cause is known. First symptom was games/outerspace (2D python/pygame game) freezing consuming 100% CPU (sometimes right after start, sometimes after 5-10 minutes of play. This didn't happen on 6.1 with the same version of outerspace and other ports (except Xorg). I've tried to launch it under ktrace, but freezes didn't show themselves. Lately, I had a freeze with xmoto (3D opengl game) and even with idle machine (with no graphic/opengl apps). Seems like process in question starts consuming CPU violently, so even X can't redraw windows properly, and if I'm lucky enough to switch to console, it takes forever to login and kill the app. I don't see a good way to investigate this problem, but I'll start with switching to ULE scheduler, with which I should at least have other apps more responsive. Any suggestions? uname -a: FreeBSD hades.panopticon 7.0-BETA4 FreeBSD 7.0-BETA4 #0: Thu Dec 20 13:28:17 MSK 2007 root@hades.panopticon:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/HADES i386 pkg_info: xorg-server-1.4_3,1 nvidia-driver-96.43.01 -- Dmitry A. Hi, yes, I tried it the same way you did even before I started this thread, also by modifying Makefile, I got similar results on 7.0-BETA4 on 946GZ shipset (gma 3000). Also there is already an effort to release 2.2.1 bugfix release of these drivers [1], maybe then wait for new release and then try to port it to FreeBSD. I'm seeing this on the two different computers already. Although native FreeBSD programs can do direct rendering, the Linux ones (such as google-earth) can not. One of the machines is FreeBSD-6.3-PRERELEASE/amd64 with a Radeon card. The other -- FreeBSD-7.0-PRERELEASE/i386 with an NVidia. On both systems the native glxinfo (installed by the the graphics/mesa-demos) reports direct rendering as available: % glxinfo | grep direct direct rendering: Yes on both, however, the Linux version (from linux_dri-7.0) says No: % /compat/linux/usr/X11R6/bin/glxinfo | grep direct direct rendering: No Asking on x11@ produced 0 responses... Does anyone else see this? What could be the reason? Last time I tried, it reported back that it was unsupported on amd64. As for the i386 machine... If you installed linux_dri after installing the nvidia drivers, you overwrote the libGL and libGLcore files from the nvidia drivers, so it's not surprising direct rendering doesn't work there.
