After plugging in the static IP information for nfe0, the system would lock up immediately once I chose to bring up the interface, nfe0. After a reboot, I manually added the nve0 info into rc.conf and once again it would lock up once it seem to initialize the Ethernet device. Once I commented out the "ifconfig_nve0" line from rc.conf the system would boot fine. I have tried both static and DHCP and both cause the system to lock up. I eventually found that I can manually run the "ifconfig nfe0 inet 192.68.0.xxx netmask 255.255.255.0" command after the system boots and it will not lock up. >How-To-Repeat: 1. Add nfe device information through the initial install and bring the interface up. 2. Run sysinstall after your installation and bring the interface up. 3. Manually add nfe device information into the rc.conf file and reboot. >Fix: Do not enter the "ifconfig_nfe0..." line into your rc.conf and enter command manually after systme boots up. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Mar 10 03:10:02 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6D4AA106566C for ; Mon, 10 Mar 2008 03:10:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5AD098FC15 for ; Mon, 10 Mar 2008 03:10:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.2) with ESMTP id m2A3A2rR047081 for ; Mon, 10 Mar 2008 03:10:02 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.1/Submit) id m2A3A2Rq047080; Mon, 10 Mar 2008 03:10:02 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2008 03:10:02 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200803100310.m2A3A2Rq047080@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Harry Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 289DC1065672 for ; Mon, 10 Mar 2008 03:00:51 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (www.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::21]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 273858FC1B for ; Mon, 10 Mar 2008 03:00:51 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.2) with ESMTP id m2A2vbuI087881 for ; Mon, 10 Mar 2008 02:57:37 GMT (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.1/Submit) id m2A2vb9x087880; Mon, 10 Mar 2008 02:57:37 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <200803100257.m2A2vb9x087880@www.freebsd.org> Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2008 02:57:37 GMT From: Harry To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-3.1 Cc: Subject: i386/121550: Can't config graphics for ATI Radeon Xpress 200M X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2008 03:10:02 -0000 >Number: 121550 >Category: i386 >Synopsis: Can't config graphics for ATI Radeon Xpress 200M >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: medium >Responsible: freebsd-i386 >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: sw-bug >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Mon Mar 10 03:10:02 UTC 2008 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Harry >Release: 7.0-RELEASE >Organization: None >Environment: My linux says "i686 AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-32 GNU/Linux". Only the VGA works in 8-bit, but is unusable. /var/log/Xorg.0.log says it can't load the radeon module because it can't open /dev/drm/card0. Gets a -1 on open. /dev/drm/card0 is not on the system. Sounds like a drm problem. It finds the right chip ID, though. This is rather odd, since I was able to get graphics working rather well on FreeBSD 6.3 on this same machine. Don't know which driver Xorg was using, though. Didn't have 6.3 installed long because of ACPI problems. ACPI works GREAT! now, but the display doesn't. My linux uses the ATI fglrx driver for basic graphics. I would try that, but doubt if it will work in FreeBSD. Would more-or-less be happy with 16bit@1024, if I could get it. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Mar 10 03:41:59 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 791A1106566B for ; Mon, 10 Mar 2008 03:41:59 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from dbuckhal@yahoo.com) Received: from web56703.mail.re3.yahoo.com (web56703.mail.re3.yahoo.com [66.196.97.62]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 36A488FC16 for ; Mon, 10 Mar 2008 03:41:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from dbuckhal@yahoo.com) Received: (qmail 91415 invoked by uid 60001); 10 Mar 2008 03:15:18 -0000 DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; h=X-YMail-OSG:Received:Date:From:Subject:To:In-Reply-To:MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Message-ID; b=HcHWPSESHUGVL9P5m6SxVnt50EJU4dT4mpwY3au8Ig1SqvNAbkkI9AM00eIm2VPCzQN0dqJC7yB70+B681ukW+TJRgJLthZRbsJ9/cowstE++JKbsM13MTPkEsvtnou2I5ZvaJJEb3FhWetcdEw17YqlD5bJX3fPytfQYS5Tu6Y=; X-YMail-OSG: mZPLzRwVM1mhOpwV2P755.63qIiInghao58DdaSPyxOsnyN6l6T0EPycxt.95NVM11K_XUo937wEiZiioKP8ciZEOgGlf4Y1UDk56hKyhioE9Yv_iykP19L5bR1Z4w-- Received: from [66.159.222.168] by web56703.mail.re3.yahoo.com via HTTP; Sun, 09 Mar 2008 20:15:17 PDT Date: Sun, 9 Mar 2008 20:15:17 -0700 (PDT) From: Derrick To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org In-Reply-To: <200803100150.m2A1o0Rp041698@freefall.freebsd.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Message-ID: <99220.90662.qm@web56703.mail.re3.yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: Subject: Re: i386/121549: nve interface locks up during rc.conf initialization X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2008 03:41:59 -0000 I had a typo in the Synopsis. It seems there is a bug with libc's telldir/seekdir. I was able to track a fix down that originated in NetBSD, so I've taken the time to port it. I've tested it with some regression tools which I will attach to this PR. If you chose to commit (any) parts of this diff you will probably need to bump the OS version because the size of dirdesc will change. I didn't notice any issues with this at all, so you probably will want to avoid doing that. >How-To-Repeat: Here's some of the regression test program that show the problem. If you compile seekdir-twice.c with a simple "#define DEBUG" you'll get more useful info. Busted telldir/seekdir machine (RELENG_7) first found: a pos returned by telldir: 1 second found: b third found: c should be == second: b pos given to seekdir: 1 pos returned by telldir: 2 should be == second: c should be == second: c Fixed seekdir/telldir with included patch: first found: a pos returned by telldir: 673198160 second found: b third found: c should be == second: b pos given to seekdir: 673198160 pos returned by telldir: 673198160 should be == second: b should be == second: b >Fix: Apply libc.diff to RELENG_7/RELENG_6 and rereun regression test tools. Everything appears to pass and I've been using these on a few machine for the past couple of months. Patch attached with submission follows: # This is a shell archive.
