But, it got me to thinking ... do we have a rescue disk image (and does it work) for PPC? Might be something to poke around with. I'm willing, if I can figure out a way to get a hard disk recognized by a G3 so I can get an install. (Running it off of the install disk is cool, but not very practical). The reason this isn't being built as part of the pp release process is that it hasn't been determined what the mkisofs switches are to create a bootable hybrid 9660/HFS image and also deal with the hard links that FreeBSD creates without blowing out the size beyond a CD. So here's a call to action for ppc hackers: experiment and see if you can work out what the magic incantation is. Start off by looking at the scripts in src/release/powerpc. later, Peter. Where do I find "pdisk" for FreeBSD ? 2. Where do I find "ofctl" for FreeBSD ? 3. Anyone that knows how to integrate the Open Firmware parameters for FreeBSD with yaboot ? If only FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD (all macppc) could agree upon how to integrate with yaboot... alternatively find one unified boot- sequence... life would be so much easier .... Principally the same applies to the disk-partitioning schema.... "pdisk" from NetBSD do actually work quite nicely .. is cranky.. but works..... kind regards nse "Ach, crivens, what a wee snotter....." IIRC yaboot was being deprecated for Grub 2.x. There are some outstanding bugs (I found) with how yaboot parses secondary cd drives and the like that I was going to debug and fix a while back, but I got caught up with other things... I'd definitely compile the last stable and work from that though because there are a few new helpful features for booting from non-standard locations for yaboot.conf files.
