I found what the problem was: the Dell Inspiron 1501 has a BIOS issue where it constantly emits scancodes apparently related to the power state, which interrupts the current keypress. Updating to the 2.6.3 BIOS and removing and reinstalling the battery solved the problem. -- Bruce From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Mon May 26 11:06:58 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B72A91065691 for ; Mon, 26 May 2008 11:06:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A271A8FC19 for ; Mon, 26 May 2008 11:06:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.2) with ESMTP id m4QB6wWU065100 for ; Mon, 26 May 2008 11:06:58 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.2/8.14.1/Submit) id m4QB6wNi065096 for freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 26 May 2008 11:06:58 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Date: Mon, 26 May 2008 11:06:58 GMT Message-Id: <200805261106.m4QB6wNi065096@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: gnats set sender to owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Current problem reports assigned to freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.org X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 26 May 2008 11:06:58 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports Critical problems Serious problems S Tracker Resp. I have a RADEONHD (HD 2400 Pro) based card which I normally use with the DVI-I port on my TFT. Of course I'm using the radeonhd driver. BTW it's a PCIe card which I can't test in any other machine. And it's the only DVI card which I have. However sometimes, for no apparent reason, the screen blanks for about one second and then comes right back. Sometimes this happens 3 or 4 times in a row and then stops for an indefinite period to then start happening again. Then there are days where I never see the problem at all. I doubt that it's a thermal problem because I've also seen this in winter when the room was cool. It drives me crazy and makes it almost impossible to do any work. If I use the VGA port I don't see this, but the display isn't nearly as crisp and I can see the screen refreshing. I'm wondering whether anyone else has seen this phenomenon? I'm trying to determine whether a) the TFT has a problem on the DVI input b) the card has a problem on the DVI output c) radeonhd still has problems reliably driving the output over DVI or d) the Xorg server gets a twist in its panties and thinks that it has to blank the screen because it saw a timeout (seems unlikely). --- Gary Jennejohn From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Fri May 30 06:04:34 2008 Return-Path: Delivered-To: x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B68131065672 for ; Fri, 30 May 2008 06:04:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from sfourman@gmail.com) Received: from rv-out-0506.google.com (rv-out-0506.google.com [209.85.198.232]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7D2F48FC13 for ; Fri, 30 May 2008 06:04:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from sfourman@gmail.com) Received: by rv-out-0506.google.com with SMTP id b25so4504154rvf.43 for ; Thu, 29 May 2008 23:04:34 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type; bh=8Xiz06PG/xsUU1JAp67Ld7jnwz+u24OxOCOlgtVpw/M=; b=QfpIdATxCnyvBnCu11MEtCi+cCJjPaYzH/NOSkCry9gIyurScw3NFP6KcNN7wM+ORtB/FZkOOS/hQ/HuRXhRS0z5/d0j2AaM/HRTdASw0aE0s25ykCVjf3FqZhdlrfFfOYQtKjReaaZePUKaqbrYNkvE7cX/yOBkz9nw8RRx8Dc= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type; b=c03g0yoRSrpEp6eOMtMwdxt24IdDTrI5+qg7nRS+xzF9nWByL6m4KcjeBLDjcW99vTyETpnjlPCme6h/7DmCg61qSDfFc37+WCDy/LtdNk0iPMgFpaLNoUcjGui4iHnE69nWsWU0ZUKFUm7Y+nzVfTGP116D9T6+TMSlUjiEBCE= Received: by 10.141.176.4 with SMTP id d4mr2776449rvp.14.1212125763742; Thu, 29 May 2008 22:36:03 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.141.186.2 with HTTP; Thu, 29 May 2008 22:36:03 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: <11167f520805292236x78506002nb27291cbe84ee54f@mail.gmail.com> Date: Fri, 30 May 2008 00:36:03 -0500 From: "Sam Fourman Jr." To: x11@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.5 Cc: Subject: Intel G33 video card X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 30 May 2008 06:04:34 -0000 Would anyone happen to have a patch to install the latest xf86-video-intel on FreBSD7 I am trying to get my Intel G33 video card working and my error message is agp0: trying to bind into stolen memory I would like to test this because I have the available hardware and some spare time here is my dmesg for what it is worth Thank you for your help Sam Fourman Jr. Copyright (c) 1992-2008 The FreeBSD Project.
