I've used a friends Epson Perfection 2450 scanner with sane with good results. Unfortunately the scanner has broken down and I'm looking for a new scanner. I'm often scanning invoices, this is my main use at the moment. I do scan pictures as well and I have a plan to scan all my negatives to have them digitally to preserve quality. I'm open to any suggestions of brand and function. I focus on Epson because I'm currently of the opinion that it's good value for the money The 2450 is not in the market any longer so a new model must be chosen. The 4990 would be nice but I can't find it at my dealer. The 4490 can be found but it's not supported by SANE! I can see that the Epson Perfection V700 Photo and Epson Perfection V750 Photo has good support in SANE. But it's not described what's not working? How about the Epson Perfection V500 Photo and Epson Perfection V600 Photo? I've asked this on the sane mailing list but I got no answers. I hope that someone here will suggest a good solution that works well on FreeBSD. Any feedback welcome. Thank you :-) /Leslie From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Dec 9 14:58:41 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 01FA0106566B for ; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 14:58:41 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from cowens@greatbaysoftware.com) Received: from portcityhosting.com (bayringfw.portcityweb.com [64.140.243.92]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9B4078FC16 for ; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 14:58:40 +0000 (UTC) Received: from [127.0.0.1] ([173.14.128.81]) by portcityhosting.com with MailEnable ESMTP; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 09:58:35 -0500 X-WatchGuard-Mail-Exception: Allow Message-ID: <4B1FBBFD.3080301@greatbaysoftware.com> Date: Wed, 09 Dec 2009 10:02:21 -0500 From: Charles Owens MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org References: <4AF2E837.2080705@greatbaysoftware.com> In-Reply-To: <4AF2E837.2080705@greatbaysoftware.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-WatchGuard-AntiVirus: part scanned. clean action=allow X-ME-Bayesian: 0.000000 Subject: Re: kern/139654: CD-boot failure on newer IBM server X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 09 Dec 2009 14:58:41 -0000 Charles Owens wrote: > Hello, > > As detailed in the PR, we are unable to get FreeBSD (7.1) to boot with > an IBM System x3250 M2 server. It's exactly what I was looking for a few months back. In the end I settled on a 1230-ML and could not be happier. Any ideas of the price? Keep in mind though this card does not appear to have battery backed cache. That is one of the reasons I was keen on the 1230-ML. I actually just received a reply from the FreeBSD Areca driver developer, it should be ready some time around Q1 2010. By the way, would anyone happen to know if you can use the DELL PERC/6i controller in JBOD ? I have checked the documentation and every setting you can think of but it seems you can only access drives as a virtual disk (and thus, RAID). --=20 Stephane LAPIE, EPITA SRS, Promo 2005 "Even when they have digital readouts, I can't understand them." --MegaTokyo --------------enig81F26DFF266BD073D6AF4C18 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAksh6kMACgkQ24Ql8u6TF2PRAACdH6zLhohG/UhiKxaBpCk+1eRD aVcAoN+kgNx8le/6+IOZ0GeC7Rhmsuog =jNyE -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------enig81F26DFF266BD073D6AF4C18-- From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Dec 11 07:38:03 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DCF801065672 for ; Fri, 11 Dec 2009 07:38:03 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from fbsd@dannysplace.net) Received: from mail.dannysplace.net (mail.dannysplace.net [80.69.71.124]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 945938FC0A for ; Fri, 11 Dec 2009 07:38:03 +0000 (UTC) Received: from nas.lan ([203.206.171.212] helo=[192.168.10.10]) by mail.dannysplace.net with esmtpsa (TLSv1:AES256-SHA:256) (Exim 4.69 (FreeBSD)) (envelope-from ) id 1NJ04g-000Aop-8E; Fri, 11 Dec 2009 17:38:02 +1000 Message-ID: <4B21F6D2.8080101@dannysplace.net> Date: Fri, 11 Dec 2009 17:37:54 +1000 From: Danny Carroll User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091204 Thunderbird/3.0 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Stephane LAPIE References: <4B21A8EF.8000304@darkbsd.org> <4B21D5FE.6050309@dannysplace.net> <4B21EA43.10808@darkbsd.org> In-Reply-To: <4B21EA43.10808@darkbsd.org> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Authenticated-User: danny X-Authenticator: plain X-Sender-Verify: SUCCEEDED (sender exists & accepts mail) X-Exim-Version: 4.69 (build at 13-Aug-2009 20:22:24) X-Date: 2009-12-11 17:38:02 X-Connected-IP: 203.206.171.212:59265 X-Message-Linecount: 31 X-Body-Linecount: 17 X-Message-Size: 1349 X-Body-Size: 704 X-Received-Count: 1 X-Recipient-Count: 2 X-Local-Recipient-Count: 2 X-Local-Recipient-Defer-Count: 0 X-Local-Recipient-Fail-Count: 0 X-SA-Exim-Connect-IP: 203.206.171.212 X-SA-Exim-Rcpt-To: stephane.lapie@darkbsd.org, freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-SA-Exim-Mail-From: fbsd@dannysplace.net X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.2.5 (2008-06-10) on ferrari.dannysplace.net X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-1.3 required=8.0 tests=ALL_TRUSTED,AWL autolearn=disabled version=3.2.5 X-SA-Exim-Version: 4.2 X-SA-Exim-Scanned: Yes (on mail.dannysplace.net) Cc: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Support for Areca ARC-1300-4x and ARC-1300ix-16x X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: fbsd@dannysplace.net List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 11 Dec 2009 07:38:03 -0000 On 11/12/2009 4:44 PM, Stephane LAPIE wrote: > By the way, would anyone happen to know if you can use the DELL PERC/6i > controller in JBOD ? But if you can create volumes containing a single disk, and export those to the OS then that is IMHO a better way to go since you are able to take advantage of cache and (if you have it) a battery backup. A lot of raid cards allow you to do this. Some do not. The next best thing is creating mirror volumes that can be exported to the OS. Costly but quite redundant. -D From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Dec 12 21:50:27 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A91791065670 for ; Sat, 12 Dec 2009 21:50:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gerd@truschinski.de) Received: from mo-p00-ob.rzone.de (mo-p00-ob.rzone.de [81.169.146.161]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 34C6B8FC13 for ; Sat, 12 Dec 2009 21:50:26 +0000 (UTC) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha1; c=relaxed/relaxed; t=1260654625; l=656; s=domk; d=truschinski.de; h=Content-Transfer-Encoding:Content-Type:Subject:To:MIME-Version:From: Date:X-RZG-CLASS-ID:X-RZG-AUTH; bh=SEY0T0kHL4bYAS8f9E5rKP7Gnck=; b=v7fUhmcjKcrniMghkN0POpE6peufJOjqytYyIZglF2smGoMLF8LnUEMctlcMaovZrNd yvpdbKyzUojJA5yq/vCco5dYuHty+Tt4+YnvvJR3f1RlT1vGTCVXWQMI9SphvH6d6E1gi LAw6pW5Sjqgf/Gf5z36t/deX/rKtdvHnDV8= X-RZG-AUTH: :K2kWcWC8aeptqAZ2mRDu0s07mmH1zFKQdF0lCrKer4N5IzBbdjwbQHXmZMx3qHFJ X-RZG-CLASS-ID: mo00 Received: from [192.168.10.45] (dslb-088-075-190-248.pools.arcor-ip.net [88.75.190.248]) by post.strato.de (fruni mo6) (RZmta 22.5) with ESMTP id z02d66lBCLP59P for ; Sat, 12 Dec 2009 22:38:42 +0100 (MET) Message-ID: <4B240D61.80201@truschinski.de> Date: Sat, 12 Dec 2009 22:38:41 +0100 From: Gerd Truschinski User-Agent: Mozilla-Thunderbird 2.0.0.22 (X11/20090701) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-15; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: DFI MI P55-T36 mini-ITX-Board with Intel 82578 Ethernet Controller X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 12 Dec 2009 21:50:27 -0000 Hi there, I try to install the FreeBSD 8.0-Release on the above mentioned board. But I get a "driver not found". The VEN:DEV values are 8086:10F0 REV_05. I have found this values also in the file /sys/dev/e1000/e1000_hw.h So I think that the device is known. I am not able to install another NIC because there is no free PCI/PCIe port. But I think that I am able to install FreeBSD with the 9-current sources on another board and switch the Harddisk back to the DFI board. What else could I do? /gT/ P.S. Why didn't tell me FreeBSD what the VEN:DEV values of the unknown device are? I had to install "the other os" to get this values
