Well, I don't know how frequently you've hit this problem before (was it always in the 1-2 days range?) but an uptime of 8 days without seeing an unsolicited interrupt ACK/NACK indeed suggest that the bug fixed was the culprit in this case. I haven't seen this issue myself as I had fixed the bug here before upgrading my v215 to SMP. FYI, pending some final tests I think that the code for supporting PCIe-based sun4u machines is now ready for hitting HEAD (but given that it touches several pieces, commit it while take a bit). I've sun blade 1500: http://www.sun.com/desktop/workstation/sunblade1500/ I just burned a 8.0 release cd, and tried to boot from it. I've a keyboard, mouse and screen attached. I get to OK prompt, type "boot cdrom", but the process stops after a few seconds with: jumping to kernel entry at 0xc0088000. Then nothing, and the keyboard is not responsive. I have to force cold reset. On restart the process repeats. Am I missing something? Or maybe the cd didn't burn well? Also, there seem to be no reset button on the desktop. Is there a keyboard key or combination to force a reset? many thanks -- Anton Shterenlikht Room 2.6, Queen's Building Mech Eng Dept Bristol University University Walk, Bristol BS8 1TR, UK Tel: +44 (0)117 331 5944 Fax: +44 (0)117 929 4423 From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Dec 1 16:23:55 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 135E9106568D; Tue, 1 Dec 2009 16:23:54 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from mexas@bristol.ac.uk) Received: from dirg.bris.ac.uk (dirg.bris.ac.uk [137.222.10.102]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C3EF58FC16; Tue, 1 Dec 2009 16:23:53 +0000 (UTC) Received: from isis.bris.ac.uk ([137.222.10.63]) by dirg.bris.ac.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1NFVW0-0000W0-FE; Tue, 01 Dec 2009 16:23:53 +0000 Received: from mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk ([137.222.187.241]) by isis.bris.ac.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.67) (envelope-from ) id 1NFVVz-00021B-Ew; Tue, 01 Dec 2009 16:23:47 +0000 Received: from mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id nB1GNlYO011882; Tue, 1 Dec 2009 16:23:47 GMT (envelope-from mexas@bristol.ac.uk) Received: (from mexas@localhost) by mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id nB1GNlwV011881; Tue, 1 Dec 2009 16:23:47 GMT (envelope-from mexas@bristol.ac.uk) X-Authentication-Warning: mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk: mexas set sender to mexas@bristol.ac.uk using -f Date: Tue, 1 Dec 2009 16:23:47 +0000 From: Anton Shterenlikht To: Adrian Urquhart Message-ID: <20091201162347.GA11859@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> References: <20091201154904.GA11679@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.20 (2009-06-14) X-Spam-Score: -1.5 X-Spam-Level: - Cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org, freebsd-questions@freebsd.org Subject: Re: trouble installing to sun blade 1500 X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 01 Dec 2009 16:23:55 -0000 On Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 04:13:20PM +0000, Adrian Urquhart wrote: > On Tue, 1 Dec 2009, Anton Shterenlikht wrote: > > > I'm new to sun, but have some experiece installing fbsd to > > i386, alpha and ia64. > > > > I've sun blade 1500: http://www.sun.com/desktop/workstation/sunblade1500/ > > > > I just burned a 8.0 release cd, and tried to boot from it. > > I've a keyboard, mouse and screen attached. > > I get to OK prompt, type "boot cdrom", but the process > > stops after a few seconds with: > > > > jumping to kernel entry at 0xc0088000. > > > > Then nothing, and the keyboard is not responsive. > > I have to force cold reset. Do you mean hit "A" while "STOP" is pressed? many thanks anton -- Anton Shterenlikht Room 2.6, Queen's Building Mech Eng Dept Bristol University University Walk, Bristol BS8 1TR, UK Tel: +44 (0)117 331 5944 Fax: +44 (0)117 929 4423 From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Dec 1 16:27:16 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 09B581065693 for ; Tue, 1 Dec 2009 16:27:16 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ardelean@ww.uni-erlangen.de) Received: from servww6.ww.uni-erlangen.de (servww6.ww.uni-erlangen.de [131.188.238.13]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BE8908FC16 for ; Tue, 1 Dec 2009 16:27:15 +0000 (UTC) Received: by servww6.ww.uni-erlangen.de (Postfix, from userid 512) id 128B362093; Tue, 1 Dec 2009 17:27:11 +0100 (CET) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by servww6.ww.uni-erlangen.de (Postfix) with ESMTP id DC24A62092; Tue, 1 Dec 2009 17:27:11 +0100 (CET) Date: Tue, 1 Dec 2009 17:27:11 +0100 (CET) From: Gheorghe Ardelean To: Anton Shterenlikht In-Reply-To: <20091201154904.GA11679@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> Message-ID: References: <20091201154904.GA11679@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> User-Agent: Alpine 2.00 (LNX 1167 2008-08-23) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; format=flowed; charset=US-ASCII Cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: trouble installing to sun blade 1500 X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 01 Dec 2009 16:27:16 -0000 Hello Anton ... to FreeBSD sparc64, > I get to OK prompt, type "boot cdrom", but the process > stops after a few seconds with: > > jumping to kernel entry at 0xc0088000. > I think supported system means that it is working at least via serial console (this is the case e.g for Plain Ultra 1). I gave such a setup a try but that didn't trigger a panic (this actually wasn't likely to). Could you please build and install a debugging kernel in single user mode (a `mount -a` should re-mount / read-write), i.e. a kernel with the following options: makeoptions DEBUG=-g options KDB options DDB If that kernel panics you should end up in the debugger prompt. Please issue a `bt` there and provide its output. will try Also, I can't seem to be able to bring up the network interface in single user mode. Is it supported? If I do "ifconfig bge0 up", bge0 shows as UP, but ip address is not assigned. Probably means /etc/rc.conf is not read? Finally, should I try 7.2 as well/instead? many thanks anton -- Anton Shterenlikht Room 2.6, Queen's Building Mech Eng Dept Bristol University University Walk, Bristol BS8 1TR, UK Tel: +44 (0)117 331 5944 Fax: +44 (0)117 929 4423 From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Dec 3 13:16:25 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 29FD11065697 for ; Thu, 3 Dec 2009 13:16:25 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from mexas@bristol.ac.uk) Received: from dirg.bris.ac.uk (dirg.bris.ac.uk [137.222.10.102]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D6AD58FC22 for ; Thu, 3 Dec 2009 13:16:24 +0000 (UTC) Received: from isis.bris.ac.uk ([137.222.10.63]) by dirg.bris.ac.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1NGBXW-0003Xk-Tz; Thu, 03 Dec 2009 13:16:23 +0000 Received: from mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk ([137.222.187.241]) by isis.bris.ac.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.67) (envelope-from ) id 1NGBXV-0005O6-Op; Thu, 03 Dec 2009 13:16:10 +0000 Received: from mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id nB3DG9QP086866; Thu, 3 Dec 2009 13:16:09 GMT (envelope-from mexas@bristol.ac.uk) Received: (from mexas@localhost) by mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id nB3DG9VD086865; Thu, 3 Dec 2009 13:16:09 GMT (envelope-from mexas@bristol.ac.uk) X-Authentication-Warning: mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk: mexas set sender to mexas@bristol.ac.uk using -f Date: Thu, 3 Dec 2009 13:16:09 +0000 From: Anton Shterenlikht To: Marius Strobl Message-ID: <20091203131609.GA86854@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> References: <20091201154904.GA11679@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> <20091201165752.GA12095@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> <20091201215130.GA64974@alchemy.franken.de> <20091202124137.GA20168@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> <20091202125915.GA20276@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> <20091202192134.GA6562@alchemy.franken.de> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20091202192134.GA6562@alchemy.franken.de> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.20 (2009-06-14) X-Spam-Score: -1.5 X-Spam-Level: - Cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: trouble installing to sun blade 1500 X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 03 Dec 2009 13:16:25 -0000 On Wed, Dec 02, 2009 at 08:21:34PM +0100, Marius Strobl wrote: > On Wed, Dec 02, 2009 at 12:59:15PM +0000, Anton Shterenlikht wrote: > > On Wed, Dec 02, 2009 at 12:41:37PM +0000, Anton Shterenlikht wrote: > > > On Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 10:51:30PM +0100, Marius Strobl wrote: > > > > > > > > > > I get to OK prompt, type "boot cdrom", but the process > > > > > > > stops after a few seconds with: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > jumping to kernel entry at 0xc0088000. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > You're using an unsupported framebuffer (see the release notes). > > > > > > yes, I missed that, thank you > > > > > > > This unfortunately isn't sufficient information and my Blade 1500 > > > > doesn't exhibit this problem. Eg: 192.168.1.13 blade1500 after this is done start the RARP daemon. I am always doing it like this: rarpd -adfsv In an other terminal you can run tcpdump to see the request from the blade1500 and if you have the correct file name. In this case (IP:192.168.1.13) the file in /tftpboot should be named COA8010D or a symbolic link to the actual firmware file. Now on the serial console of the Blade1500 say 'boot net' and that's it. I've two more "silver" blade 1500. Will try to update the firmware on those as well. Will report. many thanks for you help and advice! anton -- Anton Shterenlikht Room 2.6, Queen's Building Mech Eng Dept Bristol University University Walk, Bristol BS8 1TR, UK Tel: +44 (0)117 331 5944 Fax: +44 (0)117 929 4423 From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Dec 4 23:41:51 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A073F106568F for ; Fri, 4 Dec 2009 23:41:51 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from mexas@bristol.ac.uk) Received: from dirj.bris.ac.uk (dirj.bris.ac.uk [137.222.10.78]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5752D8FC0C for ; Fri, 4 Dec 2009 23:41:51 +0000 (UTC) Received: from isis.bris.ac.uk ([137.222.10.63]) by dirj.bris.ac.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1NGhmU-0000Ss-OB; Fri, 04 Dec 2009 23:41:50 +0000 Received: from mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk ([137.222.187.241]) by isis.bris.ac.uk with esmtp (Exim 4.67) (envelope-from ) id 1NGhmT-0003eS-Py; Fri, 04 Dec 2009 23:41:46 +0000 Received: from mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id nB4NfjBK054467; Fri, 4 Dec 2009 23:41:45 GMT (envelope-from mexas@bristol.ac.uk) Received: (from mexas@localhost) by mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id nB4NfjXI054466; Fri, 4 Dec 2009 23:41:45 GMT (envelope-from mexas@bristol.ac.uk) X-Authentication-Warning: mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk: mexas set sender to mexas@bristol.ac.uk using -f Date: Fri, 4 Dec 2009 23:41:45 +0000 From: Anton Shterenlikht To: Anton Shterenlikht Message-ID: <20091204234145.GA54440@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> References: <20091204145230.GA52366@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> <20091204150929.GA52455@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> <20091204153353.GA52633@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> <20091204162733.GA52861@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> <20091204225227.GA54260@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20091204225227.GA54260@mech-cluster241.men.bris.ac.uk> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.20 (2009-06-14) X-Spam-Score: -2.1 X-Spam-Level: -- Cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: firmware update on Blade 1500 X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 04 Dec 2009 23:41:51 -0000 On Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 10:52:27PM +0000, Anton Shterenlikht wrote: > On Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 05:53:43PM +0100, Gheorghe Ardelean wrote: > > On Fri, 4 Dec 2009, Anton Shterenlikht wrote: > > > > > On Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 05:13:42PM +0100, Gheorghe Ardelean wrote: > > >> On Fri, 4 Dec 2009, Anton Shterenlikht wrote: > > >> > > >>>> I am always netbooting the firmware file.
