I have an external usb cd recorder. I attached it and tried to blank a disk but cdrecord stopped and sent an error message. I disconnected the device and tried again but I got error messages from cdrecord and from the system (scsi subsystem?). I disconnected the device again and reconnected it but the device does not "appear" and, moreover, "ps aux" "top" are stuck waiting for something (?). Hitting ^C does not help for the moment. daniele Hans Petter Selasky wrote: > On Saturday 05 December 2009 20:04:10 Ali Mashtizadeh wrote: >> Is anyone seeing deadlocks with USB devices on 8 RELEASE? The question now, is what can be done to get this to fly with 7.1. A few more details regarding behavior with 7.1: * Only _sometimes_ does the keyboard work on some USB ports. After most reboots it doesn't work at all on any ports. * Weirdly, a 'axe' based USB NIC appears to always work just fine. (!) Could that be a clue? Hi, You need to patch ehci_pci.c so that the interrupt patch becomes active for your PCI VID+PID. Search for switch statements in ehci_pci.c. There should be some already for ATI+VIA. pciconf -l -v gives you the list of ID's which you need. --HPS From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Dec 9 22:40:02 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E6738106566B for ; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 22:40:02 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C8C5D8FC08 for ; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 22:40:02 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id nB9Me2dL099415 for ; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 22:40:02 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id nB9Me2Za099414; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 22:40:02 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Wed, 9 Dec 2009 22:40:02 GMT Message-Id: <200912092240.nB9Me2Za099414@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.org From: dfilter@FreeBSD.ORG (dfilter service) Cc: Subject: Re: usb/140242: commit references a PR X-BeenThere: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: dfilter service List-Id: FreeBSD support for USB List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 09 Dec 2009 22:40:03 -0000 The following reply was made to PR usb/140242; it has been noted by GNATS. I can use it with Ubuntu, tried once and testet and it works, but since I use FreeBSD only it would be nice to know that it is possible too with FreeBSD. Thanks in advance for any feedback. I have two serial USB devices, which I can distinguish easily from usbconfig: ugen2.3: at usbus2, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=FULL (12Mbps) pwr=ON ugen0.2: at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=FULL (12Mbps) pwr=ON and they result in two ttys: /dev/cuaU0 /dev/cuaU1 but I can't figure out how to map the USB devices to tty names. They're assigned sequentially by a bitmap system in usb_serial.c Currently, no devices seem to be using this mechanism: sys/dev/usb/serial/usb_serial.c: /* Check if the client has a custom TTY name */ if (sc->sc_callback->ucom_tty_name) { sc->sc_callback->ucom_tty_name(sc, buf, sizeof(buf), sc->sc_local_unit); } is that the right way? Or, what I really want is some sort of ioctl on the raw USB device or usbconfig option to tell me what serial port it appears as. -- Trevor Blackwell 650 776 7870 tlb@tlb.org From owner-freebsd-usb@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Dec 11 08:22:44 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-usb@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D0A60106566B for ; Fri, 11 Dec 2009 08:22:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from printer@klax.tula.ru) Received: from mail.tsu.tula.ru (mail.tsu.tula.ru [85.142.128.5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 54AB18FC19 for ; Fri, 11 Dec 2009 08:22:43 +0000 (UTC) Received: from acc.acc.tula.ru ([85.142.138.6] helo=zaikov) by mail.tsu.tula.ru with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1NIlra-0001RA-Bd for freebsd-usb@freebsd.org; Thu, 10 Dec 2009 19:27:34 +0300 X-AntiVirus: Checked by Dr.Web [version: 5.0, engine: 5.00.0.12182, virus records: 851254, updated: 7.12.2009] Date: Thu, 10 Dec 2009 19:33:42 +0300 From: =?koi8-r?Q?=F3=C5=D2=C7=C5=CA=2E=F4=D5=CC=C1?= X-Mailer: The Bat! We now understand better some of the specifics and have created a PR ( http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=usb/141327 ). We have reasons why need to see this resolved in 7.1, though we realize that working in the 7.x codebase doesn't really float anyone's boat (given the new USB subsystem in 8.x). We're at this time looking for interested parties who might consider taking on the effort. Please let us know if you might be interested (or, at least, have the skills and might be incentivized somehow) and we can discuss details further.
