Have you considered upgrading? When the lockup occurs, are you in X11 or on a VTY? If the latter, is there anything relevant on the console? I suggest you =20 run STABLE. That aside, hardlocks are hard to debug, specially while on X. My =20 first try would be to remove drivers one by one. -- Rui Paulo From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Mar 11 21:43:35 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 56FC2106566B for ; Thu, 11 Mar 2010 21:43:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from volker@vwsoft.com) Received: from Mail.elbekies.net (mail.elbekies.net [217.6.211.146]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C05CF8FC23 for ; Thu, 11 Mar 2010 21:43:34 +0000 (UTC) Received: from bel.soho.vwsoft.com (p4FE23267.dip.t-dialin.net [79.226.50.103]) by Mail.elbekies.net (Postfix) with ESMTPA id 9F6F12E05A; Thu, 11 Mar 2010 22:24:42 +0100 (CET) Received: from [192.168.16.4] (dardanos.sz.vwsoft.com [192.168.16.4]) by bel.soho.vwsoft.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id E295833C7E; Thu, 11 Mar 2010 22:24:23 +0100 (CET) Message-ID: <4B995F8B.7000602@vwsoft.com> Date: Thu, 11 Mar 2010 22:24:27 +0100 From: volker@vwsoft.com User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 (X11/20100306) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Matthias Apitz References: <20100308142005.GA2971@current.Sisis.de> In-Reply-To: <20100308142005.GA2971@current.Sisis.de> X-Enigmail-Version: 0.95.1 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-VWSoft-MailScanner: Found to be clean X-MailScanner-ID: 9F6F12E05A.A93E8 X-Elbekies-MailScanner: Found to be clean X-MailScanner-From: volker@vwsoft.com MailScanner-NULL-Check: 1268947491.25943@a7Pa6A9IZ4oMsEyt6hFoeQ Cc: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: Re: hardlocks in 8-CURRENT X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 11 Mar 2010 21:43:35 -0000 On 01/-10/63 20:59, Matthias Apitz wrote: > Hello, > > If you go with your laptop to some meeting, you just take it with you and > normally not even the power-supply; when you return to your desk, normally > you put your laptop on the table, plug-in power and open the lid... > > from time to time I encounter that the laptop after opening the lid is > just locked, i.e. hardlocked and does not even respond on ping from other > places; I did tests to see when it crashes, i.e. if it is based on the > movement, of WLAN AP re-connect or whatever; I now always first open it, work a > while across WLAN and then plug-in the power; the lock occurs only on > the plug-in of the power-supply; > > any idea what to do next for debugging this? thanks > > matthias Matthias, just a shot in the dark, but I bet keying "res" ENTER (w/o the quotes) in while your system seems to be dead will give you 'back' (well, kind of) your system. Can you try that the next time, please? If that works (reboots your system) we can see if you're able to get a core dump out of your box. Volker
