Hi Brett, you can try to customize the following from /etc/ppp/ppp.conf umts: set device /dev/cuaU0.0 set speed 460800 set phone "*99#" set log local chat error warning connect disable ipv6cp disable mppe disable lqr set dial "ABORT BUSY ABORT NO\sCARRIER TIMEOUT 5 \ \"\" AT OK-AT-OK \ AT OK-AT-OK AT+CPIN=3D!!!PIN_GOES_HERE!!! OK-AT-OK\ AT+CGDCONT=3D1,\\\"IP\\\",\\\"your operators APN\\\" OK \ AT OK-AT-OK \\dATDT\\T TIMEOUT 40 CONNECT" enable dns set authname ppp set authkey ppp disable vjcomp disable protocomp set ifaddr 10.0.0.1/0 10.0.0.2/0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0 add default HISADDR And then to start the connection you enter: ppp -ddial umts Some options in this may be unnecessary but you have to tweak it to your=20 needs. I'm not sure why retrying works - it's as if the remote end wants to use NetBIOS but will occasionally allow a connection without it. It's possible that this is no longer required - I haven't tried removing it. The 3 second timeout isn't really an issue because the remote end will normally immediately respond - with either an ACK or NACK. --=20 Peter Jeremy --Dzs2zDY0zgkG72+7 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.15 (FreeBSD) iEYEARECAAYFAkw66BYACgkQ/opHv/APuIcEjQCdHoVY9jPIClyiImEYwFBTwQc4 C1gAn2naIzNNiFAcnhM0oWyJbgs1Pu77 =5El9 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Dzs2zDY0zgkG72+7-- From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jul 12 10:43:55 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id ADE7C1065680 for ; Mon, 12 Jul 2010 10:43:55 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from smithi@nimnet.asn.au) Received: from sola.nimnet.asn.au (paqi.nimnet.asn.au [115.70.110.159]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1BE228FC27 for ; Mon, 12 Jul 2010 10:43:54 +0000 (UTC) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by sola.nimnet.asn.au (8.14.2/8.14.2) with ESMTP id o6CAhmta036220; Mon, 12 Jul 2010 20:43:49 +1000 (EST) (envelope-from smithi@nimnet.asn.au) Date: Mon, 12 Jul 2010 20:43:48 +1000 (EST) From: Ian Smith To: Peter Jeremy In-Reply-To: <20100712100158.GF27065@server.vk2pj.dyndns.org> Message-ID: <20100712203650.T63106@sola.nimnet.asn.au> References: <1278572030.4c3575feb972f@webmail.netspace.net.au> <20100712081619.GD27065@server.vk2pj.dyndns.org> <20100712190941.X63106@sola.nimnet.asn.au> <20100712100158.GF27065@server.vk2pj.dyndns.org> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Cc: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Australian 3G ppp.conf X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 12 Jul 2010 10:43:55 -0000 On Mon, 12 Jul 2010, Peter Jeremy wrote: > On 2010-Jul-12 19:43:23 +1000, Ian Smith wrote: > >On Mon, 12 Jul 2010, Peter Jeremy wrote: > > > # Ludicrous number of retries to try and convince it to work without MS NBNS > > > set ipcpretry 3 50 > > > >What happens without and with this? Of course it's not only FreeBSD the problem it's also the bad manufacturers (HP :-)) that provides buggy ACPI/BIOS. Who have a laptop that fully works with suspend/resume ? Personally, suspend works, but resume does not wake up the screen and there is nothing I can do, the system seems to be freezed (maybe panic?). I will check, and try to make a kernel dump if possible. -- Demelier David From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jul 13 20:49:57 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from [127.0.0.1] (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 845C61065670; Tue, 13 Jul 2010 20:49:57 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from jkim@FreeBSD.org) From: Jung-uk Kim To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Date: Tue, 13 Jul 2010 16:49:41 -0400 User-Agent: KMail/1.6.2 References: In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Message-Id: <201007131649.43883.jkim@FreeBSD.org> Cc: David DEMELIER Subject: Re: Who successfully suspend its laptop? My Asus G2K + FreeBSD/amd64 + -CURRENT + vesa.ko combination works perfectly fine. I can suspend/resume within X.org server + xf86-video-ati + drm(4) just fine, too. Of course, I am little biased because I am a major developer in the area. ;-) > Personally, suspend works, but resume does not wake up the screen > and there is nothing I can do, the system seems to be freezed > (maybe panic?). Can you please tell us little bit about your hardware and its configuration? FYI, FreeBSD/amd64 + -CURRENT + vesa.ko is the best way to resume video screen if your video controller is the only problem. > I will check, and try to make a kernel dump if possible. Setting sysctl hw.acpi.verbose=1 will print more information re suspend/resume steps to /var/log/messages. Are you using 'acpiconf -s3' to suspend? I'm > happy to try patches for that. Actually I've been held up on following that up by a larger problem - intermittent but increasing failures to recharge (even new) batteries - that I've learned is not so uncommon on the T23, possibly involving resoldering an inductor that can work loose on the system board. I'm hunting another on ebay for spares currently, while noticing that a refurbished T43, the last of the IBM-made Thinkpads as I recall, is much more affordable now, AU$275-350 with 3-month warranty .. though I've recently invested in more RAM and a new battery for the T23 :( > (I'm not the fellow who started the thread.) I've changed the subject in case anyone wants to follow up this aspect .. but I'll have to come back to it after fixing the charging myself. cheers, Ian From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jul 15 22:41:41 2010 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0B668106566B for ; Thu, 15 Jul 2010 22:41:41 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from karel.miklav@siol.net) Received: from mta-14.siol.net (mta-14.siol.net [193.189.160.142]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6246F8FC12 for ; Thu, 15 Jul 2010 22:41:39 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mail-7.siol.net ([10.10.10.108]) by mta-14.siol.net with ESMTP id <20100715200755.HQND12398.mta-14.siol.net@mail-7.siol.net>; Thu, 15 Jul 2010 22:07:55 +0200 Received: from gate.unitedpeople.net ([89.142.205.68]) by mail-7.siol.net with ESMTP id <20100715200755.PUBQ14190.mail-7.siol.net@gate.unitedpeople.net>; Thu, 15 Jul 2010 22:07:55 +0200 Received: from tp.unitedpeople.net (tpwi.unitedpeople.net [192.168.8.100]) by gate.unitedpeople.net (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id o6FK7qak047123; Thu, 15 Jul 2010 22:07:53 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from karel.miklav@siol.net) Message-ID: <4C3F6A98.4090009@siol.net> Date: Thu, 15 Jul 2010 22:07:52 +0200 From: Karel Miklav User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.24 (X11/20100714) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: David DEMELIER References: In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Cloudmark-Analysis: v=1.1 cv=c2YuTRcRuFDcMr29e8yA3eSPOzokMsFeC2aBXqkJQOo= c=1 sm=0 a=kq9Oj9KhIKAA:10 a=ADBQPqJMlbwA:10 a=IkcTkHD0fZMA:10 a=MCoSIGtNdw8LtnRlBaMA:9 a=kErDiHf9bRROq8xr5RgvrLggN_YA:4 a=QEXdDO2ut3YA:10 a=HpAAvcLHHh0Zw7uRqdWCyQ==:117 Cc: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Who successfully suspend its laptop?
